Lewis making rare impact: With the Heat resting some of their stars down the stretch, the bench players have gotten the opportunity to make their mark. Veteran forward Rashard Lewis has taken advantage recently, scoring 14 points on back to back nights Friday and Saturday. He scored 14 on 6 of 10 shooting Saturday against the 76ers, with seven rebounds and three assists in just 26 minutes. Lewis made a pair of 3-pointers, in a 106-87 win. (Updated 4/6/13) |

Lewis is putting up some solid numbers for the Heat recently, but he has been a total nonfactor for much of the season. He started seven games earlier in the year, but is averaging just 4.0 points per game, his lowest total since 1998-99. Lewis should be ignored in all Fantasy formats heading into the offseason. (Updated 4/6/13). |
| Rashard Lewis is technically already on his second team of the 2012-13 season after agreeing to sign the veteran's minimum with the Heat at the start of the free agency period. He was traded from the Wizards to the Hornets in the offseason but has his contract bought out by New Orleans for a hefty sum $13.7 million. Lewis endured another disappointing season with the Wizards last year as he averaged 7.8 points and 3.9 rebounds per game while shooting 38.5 percent from the field. However, he was limited to just 28 games to knee issues but is reportedly back at 100 percent now. While it has been a while since Lewis has been able to be counted on as a reliable Fantasy option, the move to South Beach most likely will not help him regain that status. The Heat are counting on Lewis to provide rebounding and 3-point shooting off the bench, but coach Erik Spoelstra's every changing rotation will make it tough to peg how many minutes the 32-year-old will see with his new club. As with any move, there will likely also need to be an adjustment period for Lewis, who has been told he will see most of his minutes as a power forward. The last time Lewis was used primarily at the four was during the 2008-09 campaign with the Magic and he averaged a very productive 17.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.6 steals back then. Still, that was a long time ago and with him seeing starter minutes, which is why we recommend taking more of a wait-and-see approach with Lewis while he tries to find his niche down in Miami. Leave him undrafted in the majority of formats on Draft Day but keep tabs on his production as the veteran could prove to be a very valuable waiver-wire addition down the line. (Updated 8/22/12) |
