Dirk gets MRI on knee: The Mavericks official team website reports that forward Dirk Nowitzki already had an MRI on his left knee to see if there is any damage heading into the offseason. Nowitzki had a preseason scope done on his right knee prior to this past season, which caused him to miss the start of the year. He wants to prevent a similar scenario going into 2013-14. We hope Nowitzki is fine heading into next season, and he should rebound from a poor year in 2012-13 when he averaged 17.3 points and 6.9 rebounds, which were his lowest totals since 1999. He should be considered a solid Fantasy option if he can return at 100 percent as expected, and he's worth drafting as early as Round 2. (Updated 4/18/13). |
| Dirk Nowitzki played in 62 games last season for Dallas, but his scoring average was the lowest it has been since 1999-00, his second year in the NBA. Nowitzki and the Mavericks struggled as a team in defending their NBA title and it showed. Nowitzki shot as poorly as he has in any of his NBA seasons last year and also saw a drop in rebounding and assists. If he hopes to improve again in 2012-13, he'll have to do it without the services of point guard Jason Kidd and guard Jason Terry to back him up. The Mavericks are going to end up learning how to live without Nowitzki in the first few weeks of the season as well, as he underwent knee surgery during the preseason. Nowitzki will likely miss around a month of action, which definitely hurts his Fantasy value. Still, we fully expect the veteran star to produce at the age of 34, once he gets back. He'll continue to post all-around numbers worthy of use in all Fantasy formats. Consider Dirk beginning in the second round in most Fantasy drafts. (Updated 10/20/12) |
