|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(11/20/14) Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki has claimed that his left ankle, which he tweaked Wednesday night, felt fine after a few minutes and that he expects to play Friday against the Lakers.
"I walked it off, got it re-taped," Nowitzki explained to the Dallas Morning News. "Trainer asked me if I wanted to call it a day, but obviously a close game, so if I can walk, I want to be out there."
Nowitzki indeed returned to help Denver defeat Washington.

|(11/11/14) Mavericks power forward Dirk Nowitzki reached another milestone, surpassing Rockets Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon as the highest-scoring international-born player in NBA history. Nowitzki knocked down a 19-foot jumper over Carl Landry with 8:57 remaining in Tuesday's win over the Kings to reach that mark.
He finished with 23 points and is now in ninth place on the all-time scoring list. He shot 7 of 12 from the field, including 2 of 3 from downtown, and 7 of 8 from the charity stripe. Mavericks PF Dirk Nowitzki doubles up in win vs. Jazz
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(11/7/14) Mavericks power forward Dirk Nowitzki scored a team-high 27 points on 11 of 18 shooting, including 5 of 8 shooting from behind the arc, while grabbing 10 rebounds in his team's 105-82 win over the Jazz Friday.
Nowitzki managed to reach 27 points for the second time in three games despite seeing only 28 minutes of action thanks to posting his fourth game with a shooting percentage of better than 60 percent. His points all came from the field as the Dallas star didn't make one trip to the free-throw line. He also chipped in two assists and one steal in the win. The Mavericks are set to face the Heat Sunday.
|Last season proved that you can somewhat ignore a player's age if that player happens to be Dirk Nowitzki. At 35 years old, the veteran big man joined a select group of hall-of-fame players who have averaged more than 20 points per game at 35 or older. So not only did Nowitzki join the likes of Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Karl Malone, he also played in 80 games and logged 30-plus minutes in 66 of them. Expect more the same next year. He's an elite scorer with great shooting percentages across the board -- 49.7 percent from the field, 89.9 percent from the free throw line and 39.8 percent from three last season. He's pretty lackluster in every other category, but his top-tier consistency and efficiency makes him worth a third-round pick in Rotisserie leagues and a fourth-rounder in points leagues.
