|Pistons coach speaks highly of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope |
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
(10/1/14) Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy spoke highly Wednesday about second-year guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, according to the team's official website.
"You always look at players first to their strengths, where can a guy be great," Van Gundy said. "I think he can be an elite defender in this league at the two guard and we’ll look for that every night. I think he is a high-energy guy who can get up and down the floor and attack the basket in transition. Those two things have got to be his foundation."
Caldwell-Pope averaged 24 points per game in the Summer League. However, he's still not at the stage in his career where the Pistons are counting on him to be one of their top scorers.
"On the offensive end, he’s going to have to slow down a little bit, get under control, and like a lot of people it will come down to how many shots he can make, how efficient he can be shooting the ball, how consistent can you be," Van Gundy said. "But I think he’s got a great foundation with the defense and energy that will get him on the floor and give him a chance to develop in those other areas."
|Pistons reserves contributing little |

(2/23/14) The Pistons' bench woes continued Saturday against the Mavericks, as Jonas Jerebko and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope combined for just 10 points in 24 minutes of action in a 113-102 loss.
Caldwell-Pope played a bit more than Jerebko, but was hardly any more productive. He finished with just five points and two rebounds in 14 minutes, while Jerebko also added five points and a pair of rebounds in just 10 minutes.
Jerebko is averaging just 3.0 points per game for the season, while Caldwell-Pope is averaging just 6.4 as a rookie.

(1/24/14) Pistons guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 14 points on 6 of 12 shooting while playing 41 minutes in his team's 103-101 loss to the Pelicans Friday.
It was Caldwell-Pope's highest point total since scoring 14 on Jan. 5, and he saw at least 40 minutes of action for the second straight game. He hadn't reached 40 minutes in a game until Saturday. Caldwell-Pope also tallied two rebounds, two assists and two steals in the loss. He has averaged 7.4 points and 2.3 rebounds over 41 games played.

(1/7/14) Pistons guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope's up-and-down season continues, as he followed up one of his best two-game stretches with one of his worst performances Tuesday against the Knicks.
Caldwell-Pope managed to score just two points in 29 minutes of action, missing all but one of his field-goal attempts. He added three rebounds and two assists in 29 minutes, while missing all three of his 3-pointers.
Caldwell-Pope managed to score 31 points in his previous two games on 13 of 19 combined shooting, his highest two-game total yet. The No. 8 overall pick is averaging 7.0 points per game in his rookie season.
|Kentavious Caldwell-Pope does little in win over Nets |
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
(12/13/13) Pistons guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was barely involved offensively as he was held to single-digit scoring during Friday's win over the Nets.
Caldwell-Pope went 2 of 4 shooting from the field, including 2 of 3 from beyond the arc. He finished the game with six points, three rebounds and two assists while logging 19 minutes of game action in a 103-99 victory.
Caldwell-Pope has scored in double figures just five times this season. He is averaging 6.6 points and 2.6 rebounds over his last five games played.
|Quietly, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope appeared in 80 games as a rookie, finishing seventh in his class in minutes played. It would be hard to blame any Fantasy owners for missing Caldwell-Pope's rookie season, as he averaged just 5.9 points and 2.0 rebounds per game, despite his extensive playing time. The Pistons were a dysfunctional mess on offense, and Caldwell-Pope found himself squeezed out more often than not, as he finished just eighth on the team in field-goal attempts per game. A new coach and a less crowded backcourt could open things up for him as a sophomore, but Caldwell-Pope is unlikely to be a featured option, and can probably be ignored in the majority of Fantasy leagues on Draft Day
