(11/25/13) Timberwolves center Gorgui Dieng's role continues to be inconsistent, as he did not see the floor Monday against the Pacers. He has played in just nine of the team's first 16 games, despite the injury to Ronny Turiaf.
Dieng is averaging 1.3 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game in his rookie season.
|If you picked up Timberwolves center Gorgui Dieng for your Fantasy team last season, chances are he played a huge role in your success. Dieng struggled for minutes early in the season and only made his presence felt once Nikola Pekovic went down with an ankle injury, missing 14 of the last 17 games of the season. The Senegalese was all over the glass, grabbing 10-plus boards 10 times over that span, including five games of 15-plus rebounds. During his first 42 games played, Dieng averaged 6.5 minutes off the bench, 1.7 points and 2.3 rebounds while shooting 42.6 percent from the field. From March 16 to April 16, Dieng started 15 of Minnesota's 18 games and averaged 11.3 rebounds and 12.0 points on 52.8 percent shooting from the field, and 71.2 percent from the charity stripe. He logged 30.2 minutes per game during that stretch. At 24, the sky is the limit for Dieng, unfortunately -- with Pekovic back healthy -- he will be demoted to a smaller role off the bench. That said, Pekovic has yet to play a full season in the league, so Dieng should be a savvy handcuff option for owners concerned about Pekovic's durability. Target him in the middle-to-late rounds on Draft Day.
