|(1/24/15) Knicks shooting guard Tim Hardaway Jr. scored a career-high 25 points on 9 of 17 shooting in New York's 76-71 loss to the Hornets Saturday. Hardaway Jr. also tied his career-high shooting 5 of 8 from 3-point range.
It was his first time scoring over 20 points in a game since Dec. 18. He also gradded six rebounds and dished out five assists for New York.
Knicks' Fisher trying to 'encourage' Hardaway Jr. during slump
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(1/14/15) Even after the Knicks traded Iman Shumpert and J.R. Smith to give some of the team's younger players a bigger role, second-year guard Tim Hardaway Jr. continues to have his struggles.
He is 4 for 24 from 3-point range in four games since New York shipped Smith and Shumpert to Cleveland, and he was benched 37 seconds into the second half Saturday against the Hornets for a defensive lapse.
"I just try to encourage Tim to continue to build consistent habits, a consistent approach, a consistent mindset," coach Derek Fisher said, per the New York Post. "Tim is a second-year player, he’s not going to have all of what you need to be consistently successful at this point, but he’s doing well.
"He’s having a rough patch right now but he works hard every day. He’s the first one in the building most afternoons."
Tim Hardaway withering in larger role
|by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com|
|(1/13/15) Tim Hardaway Jr. proved as a rookie he could score the ball well when given the chance, but he did much of his work as a second or third option in second units. He has been much less effective so far this season, when the Knicks asking him to do much more.
Hardaway's usage has increased from 19.6 percent of the team's possessions to 24.2 percent this season, and his effectiveness has taken a sharp decline as a result. Whereas he shot a solid 42.8 percent from the field and 36.3 percent on 3-pointers, his shooting has fallen off a cliff this season, especially lately. Despite serving as the team's primary scoring option over the last 10 games, Hardaway is averaging just 11.7 points per game over the last 10, while shooting just 36.5 percent from the field and 28.3 percent from 3-point range.
With Carmelo Anthony dealing with knee issues that will almost certainly require surgery down the line, it was assumed that Hardaway would see a big boost in Fantasy value. However, the Knicks hardly resemble an NBA team right now, and carrying that offense is too much for Hardaway to handle. He'll still continue to get shots and opportunities on this team, but Hardaway really doesn't do much if he's not scoring, so it's hard to rely on him at this point.
Knicks G Tim Hardaway Jr. scores team-high 17 vs. Bucks

Knicks clear Hardaway Jr. to play, rule Stoudemire out vs. Bucks
|by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com|
|(1/4/15) The Knicks announced guard Tim Hardaway Jr. has been cleared to play in Sunday’s game against the Bucks. Meanwhile, Amar'e Stoudemire has been ruled out.
Hardaway Jr. missed Friday’s game against the Pistons with a concussion. It will be the fifth straight game Stoudemire has missed while dealing with a knee injury. Forwards Travis Wear and Jason Smith could be in line for an increase in minutes with Stoudemire sidelined.
The Knicks are 7-point underdogs.
|In a dark season, Tim Hardaway Jr. showed up as a rare bright spot for the Knicks a year ago. Hardaway was one of just four rookies to average double figures in scoring, as he came in at 10.2 points per game in 81 appearances. He didn't do much else, finishing with 1.5 points and 0.8 assists per game, as Hardaway's role on the team was that of a pure gunner. He nailed 130 3-pointers at a 36.3 percent success rate, and should return to a similar role in his second season in the league. Hardaway is a solid scorer, but does not do enough to be considered more than a late-round Fantasy option on Draft Day.
