Bulls' Doug McDermott getting more opportunities with injuries
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(3/4/15) Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau is hoping rookie Doug McDermott will take his chance to play more and run with it this week. Thibodeau praised his defense Wednesday and said he's going to get another chance.
"I like Doug a lot. He'll do well," Thibodeau said to the Chicago Tribune. "He has a great attitude and approach. Unfortunately, he got hit with the injury. But he has done a good job. He's going to be a good pro."
McDermott played 15 minutes in Chicago's last game against the Wizards, grabbing one rebound and dishing out one assist.
"Be consistent. This will be a good opportunity for him. We'll see where he is. I don't want him to get wrapped up in stuff that's not important."
Bulls' Doug McDermott working to overcome injury down the stretch
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(2/6/15) Bulls forward Doug McDermott hasn't been able to play much in his rookie campaign. McDermott had arthroscopic knee surgery in December, but has been active since Jan. 19.
"It has been tough," McDermott said Friday. "It stunk that I had the injury because I felt I was starting to come along, getting used to the travel and how little you practice because there are so many dang games. I have a lot more respect for some of these (NBA) guys than when you're on the outside, looking in. It's impressive, man. It's crazy."
Coach Tom Thibodeau said the team may consider sending McDermott to the D-League after the All-Star break.
"We'll look at all the options, but the big thing with a rookie is, you still want to have your hands on him here," Thibodeau said.
McDermott is averaging 2.9 points and 1.5 rebounds in 19 games this season.
|The Bulls traded two first-round picks to move up in this year's draft to take forward Doug McDermott, a sharpshooter out of Creighton University. There are some questions about McDermott's position, but there is no doubt about what kind of an offensive weapon he can be for a team that desperately needs help. As a senior, McDermott averaged 26.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 52.6 percent from the field and 44.9 percent from three-point range; that last number is actually down slightly from his 45.8 percent career mark in college. McDermott should fill a need for the Bulls as a sharpshooter from the perimeter, though this is a team that is very deep in the frontcourt, so it is not clear how much he will play. McDermott is worth a mid-round pick in Dynasty/keeper leagues, but is more of a late-round option in yearly Fantasy formats on Draft Day.
