Report: Heat's Napier showing better attitude since D-League stint

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(1/21/15) Since being recalled from the NBA Development League earlier this month, Heat guard Shabazz Napier has reportedly been more humble and willing to work harder on his game, a source told the Miami Herald.

Napier said his demotion in December to the D-League was tough, but coach Erik Spoelstra said his work ethic has 'improved greatly.'

The next thing Napier would like to improve is his assist to turnover ratio, which he said can be improved by limiting dumb mistakes.

"I will be good for a good 2 1/2 quarters and then I'll turn the ball over with dumb decisions," Napier said. "I've got to patch that up."

Rookie Napier embraces 'the plan,' back in rotation for Heat

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(1/20/15) After being banished to the D-League in late December, Heat rookie guard Shabazz Napier seems to have worked his way back into the good graces of the coaching staff.

Napier has logged more than 30 minutes in each of the last two games for Miami, totaling 22 points, 11 assists, eight rebounds, three steals and one block. Napier has even started the last two games with Dwayne Wade sidelined due to injury.

Coach Erik Spoelstra credits a conversation he had with Napier a few weeks ago as the turning point in the rookie's season, per The Palm Beach Post.

“Embrace the plan,” Spoelstra told him. “Get better in the specific areas we want. Commit to the work and the rest of it will work itself out. It’s a long season. Your number will be called soon enough.

“He wrapped his mind around that, finally, and he’s been able to take some strides forward. What you saw was playmaking and poise, even though he had three turnovers, he does those things very well. He organizes you and can make other guys better.”

Heat to start Napier, Whiteside on Wednesday at Golden State

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(1/14/15) In a somewhat surprising move, the Heat will start Shabazz Napier at point guard for the first time in his NBA career Wednesday against the Warriors.

Napier has not played significant minutes since December, but with guard Dwyane Wade ruled out, he will receive the start.

Center Hassan Whiteside has scored in double-figures in five consecutive games, but will make his first start of his NBA career Wednesday. Center Chris Andersen moved to the bench to accommodate Whiteside.

The Heat are 15-point underdogs.

Heat recall Shabazz Napier from NBADL on Wednesday

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(1/7/15) The Heat announced point guard Shabazz Napier has been recalled from the NBA Development League on Wednesday.

In 25 games for the Heat, Napier is averaging 5.7 points and 1.9 assists. The Heat next play Thursday at Portland.

Shabazz Napier will rejoin Heat on Thursday

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(1/6/15) Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said rookie guard Shabazz Napier will be recalled from the NBA Development League in time for Thursday's game at Portland, per FOX Sports Florida. Napier has not appeared in a game for Miami since Dec. 17.

The 2014 first-round pick is averaging 5.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 25 games this season.
