Timberwolves' Saunders: Andrew Wiggins has 'hit the rookie wall'
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(1/23/15) Timberwolves small forward Andrew Wiggins scored just 13 points on 6 of 16 shooting in his team's 92-84 home loss to the Pelicans Friday, leading coach Flip Saunders to speculate after the game that the 2014 No. 1 overall pick may be hitting the rookie wall.
''I think he's physically and mentally just worn (out),'' coach Flip Saunders said after the game, per the Associated Press. ''I think he's hit the rookie wall a bit. Somehow we've got to find a way to go right through it. He's got to find a soft spot in that wall and we have to bust right through it.''
Wiggins has been forced into a central role with the team dealing with multiple injuries, and he's delivered spotty shooting performances in two of the last three games after putting togther a strong January. He also chipped in two rebounds, one assist and one block in 38 minutes Friday. The Timberwolves will move on to face the Hawks Sunday.

Andrew Wiggins makes it five straight 20-point games

|(1/8/15) Timberwolves rookie forward Andrew Wiggins scored 20-plus points for the fifth straight game, and seven of his past eight, in Wednesday's home loss to the Suns. Wiggins poured in a team-high 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting, hitting 1 of 4 from long range and 4 of 5 free throws.
Wiggins added four rebounds, three steals and two assists, though he committed six turnovers. Wiggins is back in action Friday at Milwaukee.
|The offseason trade that sent Andrew Wiggins from Cleveland to Minnesota this offseason gets him away from the spotlight of chasing a championship, but puts him into another high-stress position, as he has now been tasked with leading the Timberwolves' rebuild. That is a lot to ask of a 19-year-old, but Wiggins might just be up to it. He won't have to be the offensive focal point in Minnesota, which should help ease him in, but the move definitely helps his Fantasy value given a larger projected role. Wiggins will have his struggles, as all rookies do, but should be considered a mid-round target in all re-draft Fantasy leagues, and will be gone in the first few rounds of all keeper/dynasty formats as well.
