Fantasy Analysis
Johnson should be fine moving forward, but Fantasy owners in daily formats should keep an eye on his status moving forward just to be on the safe side. Despite his poor shooting night in Milwaukee, Johnson has looked very sharp since returning to the lineup from a knee injury and is averaging 23.4 points over that stretch. As long as he is able to remain in the lineup, owners should leave the 30-year-old active in all formats moving forward. (Updated 03/27/2012).
05/11/2012 02:41 Hawks-Celtics Game 6: Hawks continue their stay in purgatory
The Atlanta Hawks lost Game 6 Thursday to the Celtics. Where will they go from here? Never improving, never declining, the Hawks will likely remain an Eastern Conference prop stuck in purgatory.
05/10/2012 22:58 Celtics hang on, close out Hawks in six
Kevin Garnett had 28 points and 14 rebounds, hitting a jumper to give Boston the lead with 31 seconds left in Game 6 on Thursday night, and the Celtics beat the Atlanta Hawks 83-80 to win their first-round playoff series and advance to the Eastern Conference semifinals for the fifth straight year.
05/08/2012 22:49 Horford helps Hawks hold on, force series back to Boston for Game 6
Al Horford scored 19 points in his first start since January, and the Atlanta Hawks held on for an 87-86 victory over the Boston Celtics in a thrilling Game 5 of the Eastern Conference playoffs Tuesday night.
Johnson had his worst statistical season as a Hawk in 2010-11, despite signing the richest contract in the league last summer. The normally always consistent Johnson averaged just 18.2 ppg while shooting just 44 percent from the field, 80 percent from the foul line and a putrid 29.7 percent from downtown. This was the first time since 2004 that he failed to average 20 points per game or makes at least 119 3-pointers, although he was pretty beat up last season. Johnson dealt with various thumb and elbow issues last year and had arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow back in December. He was supposed to be sidelined 4 to 6 weeks with his injury, but may have rushed back as he returned after only missing nine games. Now healthy, there is no reason why Johnson shouldn't be able to bounce back in 2011-12. Expect the 30-year-old to get his scoring back up into the 20s while still managing to average around five rebounds and assists per contest. Johnson is also usually good for around two 3-pointers a night, making him a very diverse option for category-based formats as well as Head-to-Head leagues. Consider him a high-end No. 1 guard worthy of a pick in the second round of most Fantasy formats. (Updated 8/23/11)
