Report: Spurs PG Tony Parker to play in France this summer

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12:26 pm ET) Spurs point guard Tony Parker said during his French radio show that he will play for Team France at Eurobasket 2015, ProjectSpurs.com reports.

"I am not thinking about that for now since I’m focused on the Spurs, and making a good season to finish in style. Then I will focus on the Blues. But I have said… I will be with Team France this summer," Parker said Monday.

Parker took last summer off to rest and prepare for the 2014-15 NBA season. He will be attempting to help the team qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Eurobasket this summer.

Tony Parker: I'm not 'the same since I came back' from hamstring injury

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(10:40 am ET) Spurs point guard Tony Parker acknowledged that he hasn't been the same since returning from a hamstring injury, according to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports. Parker suffered a left hamstring injury Dec. 5 against Memphis, which caused him to miss nine of 12 games. He noted that similar injuries have caused other NBA players to miss three-to-four months.

"I have not been the same since I came back, and it's still bothering me," Parker said. "Everybody knows. I am not going to use that as an excuse. I am just going to work it out until it gets better."

Parker's scoring average this season (13.8) has been his lowest output since his 2001-02 rookie campaign (9.2). He's also logged only 28.2 minutes per game this season, the fewest in his career. Since his return from injury, the French guard has averaged 11.7 points and 4.5 assists over his last 24 games. He told Spears he's frustrated with his recent play and is trying to channel his vintage style of play.

"I've been through a lot of tough challenges in my career," Parker said. "Right now, this is up there."

Spurs PG Tony Parker scores team-high 19 vs. Kings

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(2/28/15) Spurs point guard Tony Parker scored a team-high 19 points on 7 of 16 shooting in his team's 107-96 win over the Kings Friday.

Parker managed just nine points in his previous three games combined heading into Friday, and he started slow offensively against the Kings before scoring 11 points in the fourth quarter to help the Spurs salt the win away. He also kicked in five rebounds and four assists in 30 minutes.

"You just have to man up and keep playing," Parker said after the game, per the Associated Press. He added that he had a "great talk" with coach Gregg Popovich Thursday that helped him refocus.

"That was huge for us. That was huge for him," teammate Tim Duncan said. "I know he's been really hard on himself over these last couple games and really struggling, and hopefully that builds the confidence he needs and that we need him to have."

The Spurs brought a four-game losing streak to an end Friday, and they'll try and put together back-to-back victories Saturday in Phoenix.

Spurs' Tony Parker doubles up on Thursday

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(2/20/15) Spurs guard Tony Parker posted a double-double on Thursday against the Clippers.

Parker shot 8-17 from the field, including 1-2 from beyond the arc. He hit all four of his free throws, finishing with 21 points. Parker made sure to get his teammates involved in the act, dishing out 13 assists. He also added three rebounds and two steals during the contest.

Popovich: Spurs' playoff hopes rest on Tony Parker

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(2/18/15) Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said Wednesday that the key to the team's hopes of repeating as NBA champions rest with point guard Tony Parker, who is still working his way back to 100 percent after straining his hamstring in early December, the San Antonio Express-News reports.

"If he’s not the Tony Parker of past years, we're not going anywhere," Popovich said. "His aggressiveness is a huge key for us, because of his ability to penetrate and get to the rim, and he hasn’t done that like he has in the past. It’s because of a lack of confidence in that leg and a lack of conditioning, a combination of those two things."

When asked if Parker has enough time to get on the right track before the playoffs, Popovich said, "I don’t know, but he’s serious about it and that’s good. He’s the main part of our game as far as pace and scoring. He makes a lot happen when he’s getting 18, 20, 26 points. There are not many nights when Timmy (Duncan) or Manu (Ginobili) or going to get 26 or 28, but the teams we are playing have a lot of those guys.

"Tony is our guy and we need that back."

Parker has averaged just 14.5 points and 4.7 assists, numbers lower than any he has posted since his rookie season. The Spurs sit in seventh place in the West with a 34-19 record at the break.
