Richardson out until January: According to mlive.com, 76ers guard Jason Richardson hopes to resume playing by January following knee surgery. "I was diagnosed with having a hole in my meniscus about the size of a quarter," Richardson said. "Going to several doctors to see what was the best procedure to have, I decided to go with a fairly new procedure called Denovo surgery. It's a surgery where they take juvenile cartilage and implant it back into my knee where the cartilage damage occur. Although the most common surgery for basketball players (micro-fracture surgery) has a quicker recovery time, I felt that the Denovo surgery has a better long-term success rate post basketball. My rehab process right now ... I have to be on crutches for 12 weeks completely ... no weight bearing on my left leg (been on them for 5 weeks now), after crutches I have to be in a special brace called the loader brace which relieves stress from the area of the surgery for six months. Some time by mid-October, I will be able to start lifting light weights, and hopefully if all goes well I will be able to resume normal basketball activity by late January-early February." Knee - Out for season (Updated - 2/8/13) |
| Fantasy Analysis |
Richardson's days as a relevant Fantasy option are likely over. We hope he can make a full recovery from this knee surgery, but it's doubtful he will be a starter in the majority of leagues again. Keep an eye on what happens with Richardson heading into next season, but you won't want to draft him since he'll be out for the beginning of the year. (Updated 4/10/13). |
| Jason Richardson's terrible run with the Magic mercifully came to an end this offseason, as he found himself shipped off to Philadelphia as part of the Dwight Howard trade. Unfortunately, the situation in Philly might not be much different for him, as the 76ers have also opted to build their offense around a dominant big man and a bunch of three-point shooters. And Andrew Bynum is not quite the passer that Dwight Howard is out of double teams in the post at this point in his career. Richardson turns 32 midseason, so there is not much reason to think he can turn things around. He averaged 11.6 points per game last season with Orlando on 40.8 percent shooting, and we expect about the same with Philadelphia in a similar role. Consider him just a low-end Fantasy option in all formats on Draft Day. (Updated 10/14/12) |
