Barnes plays on for Clippers : Clippers forward Matt Barnes was able to play through an ankle injury during Monday's contest against the Pacers. Barnes, who sprained his right ankle in Los Angeles' loss to the Rockets last Saturday, finished with eight points in the 109-106 win. He went 3 of 4 from the field and also added five rebounds and one assist to his stat line, while logging 26 minutes of game action. (Updated 4/2/13) |

Barnes did not seem to be hampered by his ankle issue at all Monday, which is great news for the Clippers. The 33-year-old has been surprisingly effective in Los Angeles this season as entered his latest contest averaging a career-best 10.3 points on the year. He is also giving owners 4.5 rebounds, 1.6 dimes and 1.1 steals to go along with 1.5 made treys per game, giving him value in deeper category-based formats. Owners in those formats should continue to roll with Barnes over the final few scoring periods of the season. (Updated 4/2/13). |
| After two seasons with the Lakers, veteran forward Matt Barnes stayed in Los Angeles and signed a one-year deal with the Clippers as a free agent during the offseason. But the change in jerseys is unlikely to boost his production much as he averaged 7.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game last season -- nearly identical to his career marks in those areas. Barnes received some starts for the Lakers as a result of injuries, however, he will likely be the second small forward used off the bench for the Clippers, slotted behind another newcomer in Grant Hill. The lanky Barnes remains a quality defender and posted a career-high 0.8 blocks per game last season, shattering his previous best of 0.5 blocks a night. At this point in his career, he has developed into a specialized player and is only worth selecting in Rotisserie Fantasy drafts as a late-round bench option. But even that might be a bit ambitious.
