Clippers' Barnes drops 18 points before aggravating abdominal injury
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(1/27/15) Clippers forward Matt Barnes was great from the field Monday against the Nuggets, going 7 of 11 and finishing with 18 points. Unfortunately, it was not all good news for Barnes, who aggravated a strained abdominal muscle in the fourth quarter, according to the Associated Press.
Barnes scored in double figures Monday for the first time in four games. Although, he is averaging a season-best 12.5 points per game in 12 January appearances.
Clippers' Doc Rivers unclear on backup small forward position
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(1/18/15) Clippers coach Doc Rivers is still trying to figure out who will fill in the backup small forward position. After trading Reggie Bullock to the Suns to acquire his son, Austin, Rivers left the door open to anyone being able to fill the void on Saturday.
"It could be anyone. It’s not that big of an issue for me. Reggie was playing 10 minutes a game," Rivers said. "We feel like we have enough guys who can cover for him."
The Clippers signed Dahntay Jones to a 10-day contract Wednesday and played five minutes in Saturday's win. Since the trade, however, starting small forward Matt Barnes has played 40 minutes per game, well above his normal 28.5 minutes.
Clippers SF Matt Barnes doubles up vs. Kings Saturday
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(1/18/15) Clippers small forward Matt Barnes matched a season high with 26 points on 10 of 15 shooting, including 4 of 9 shooting from behind the arc, while hauling in a season-high 10 rebounds in his team's 117-108 win over the Kings Saturday.
Barnes turned in his best line of the season, playing 40 minutes while posting his first double-double before fouling out late. He also chipped in three steals, one assist and one block in the win. The Clippers move on to face the Celtics Monday.
Farmar, Barnes to be game-time decisions for Clippers
|by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com|
|(1/7/15) Clippers guard Jordan Farmar and forward Matt Barnes will be game-time decisions on Wednesday, according to the Orange County Register.
Farmar was initially listed as doubtful due to a knee issue, but expressed optimism that he would play. Barnes is dealing with an illness.
|Most of the Fantasy relevant Clippers had their best run during Chris Paul's absence last season, but forward Matt Barnes was the exception to that rule. He averaged 12.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 made threes per game from February on. With a spate of intriguing rookie forwards entering the league, it will be hard to justify drafting the 34-year-old swingman, but you could do worse toward the end of your draft if you need depth. The Clippers are very shallow at the wing position, meaning Barnes could be in for another season averaging 25-plus minutes per game, but his 19 games lost to injury last season makes him worth passing up for greener prospects. Wait until the end of your draft if at all this year.
