Butler plays on for Clippers : Clippers forward Caron Butler was able to play through a knee injury during Tuesday's contest against the Trail Blazers. Butler, who was forced to leave Saturday's contest against the Grizzlies after feeling some soreness in his right knee, finished with 22 points in the 93-77 win -- his highest scoring output since Feb. 21. He scored 18 points in the third quarter and finished 9 of 14 from the field, including going 4 of 7 from downtown. (Updated 4/16/13) |

| Fantasy Analysis |
While Butler has had his moments this season, his overall production was all over the place. Part of the reason for this was Butler's role as he was not needed to be one of the team's primary scoring options. The 33-year-old only averaged 15.5 Fantasy points per week -- in all standard formats -- but he did remain a viable source for 3-pointers as he averaged 1.6 makes from behind the arc per game. Butler will be back with the Clippers next season, but unless he is asked to do more, he will only have low-end appeal heading into the 2013-14 campaign. (Updated 4/16/13). |
| The Clippers added Caron Butler with the expectation that he would be a solid third option in the offense, and for the most part he was that, scoring 12.0 points per game. Unfortunately, that decent scoring total came with one of Butler’s worst overall seasons yet, as he averaged career lows in rebounds (3.7), assists (1.2), and steals (0.8), as his secondary skills took a big hit. His role won’t be changing much in his second year in Los Angeles, so Fantasy owners should probably expect much of the same from him. Butler can be a borderline starting Fantasy option, but he is better served as injury insurance, so target him in the later rounds of most formats. (Updated 10/10/12) |
