Anthony still bothered by shoulder : Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony was forced to wear a protective sleeve to cover his sore left shoulder during Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals Sunday. Anthony, who re-aggravated the injury in New York's series'-clinching win over the Celtics last Friday, finished with 28 points on 10 of 28 shooting from the field in the 102-95 loss. He went 1 of 4 from downtown and added 11 rebounds, one steal and one assist to his stat line, while logging 36 minutes. (Updated 5/5/13) |

Anthony's shoulder is obviously not at 100 percent, but he also denied it was dislocated as some previous reports had suggested. Still, we doubt it will keep him from missing anytime in the series, unless it gets worse over the next few games. Anthony has dealt with a few bumps and bruises this season as he missed 15 tilts due to a variety of issues. However, he had no problem posting his usual must-start numbers when he was on the court. The 28.7 points per game Anthony averaged this season was good enough to lock up his first scoring title and he also averaged 37.4 Fantasy points per week in all standard formats, which ranked third only behind LeBron James and Kevin Durant. The 28-year-old has clearly established himself as one of the top options in all of Fantasy and we don't see any reason why that trend won't continue next year as well. Fantasy owners should plan on scooping Anthony up in the first round in all draft formats next fall. (Updated 5/5/13). |
| It is probably fair to characterize Carmelo Anthony's first season in New York as a disappointment, as he missed 11 games while tallying his lowest scoring average for a season since 2004-05, at 22.6 points per game. His shooting was down across the board, though he did put up his best assist numbers (3.6 per game) since 2006-07, as the Knicks asked him to play out of his comfort zone and create for others at times. The Knicks have an offseason to figure out their offense, however at this point there are still plenty of question marks. Even having said that, there is no way Anthony isn't one of the top-10 Fantasy forwards in the league heading into next season, not matter the circumstances. Few players can score like him, and it's safe to bet with another year working together, the Knicks' disparate parts will come together smoothly. (Updated 8/21/12) |
