Milicic unlikely to return: With just three games remaining on the Timberwolves schedule, coach Rick Adelman expressed very little optimism about the chance that center Darko Milicic would be returning this season. When asked whether he thought Milicic would be able to play in the final three games while dealing with a strained right hamstring, Adelman told the St. Paul Pioneer Press,"I don't think so." Fantasy Analysis
This is the first update we have had on Milicic's injury status in quite some time. Adelman has expressed disappointment with Milicic's effort this year, so he was finding playing time hard to come by even when healthy. Milicic will finish the season with averages of 4.6 points and 3.3 rebounds in 29 games, and with Nikola Pekovic emerging as the center of the future, it will be interesting to see what the team does with the former No. 2 overall pick. He may land in a different city in the offseason, however it is unlikely that Milicic will be worth targeting next season on Draft Day. (Updated 04/18/2012).
So Darko Milicic will never live up to the potential Pistons president Joe Dumars saw in him when he selected him with the second overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft. We all know that. That doesn't mean he can't help Fantasy owners, though. He is coming off his most productive season to date, averaging 8.8 points and 5.2 rebounds in 69 games played. Those numbers are not particularly attractive, but the 2.0 blocks per game he averaged can be extra helpful in category play and there were moments last season where he showed he could have even more to offer given increased playing time. He scored 20-plus points per game in three straight contests last November, when he averaged over 35 minutes per game. Do not invest much more than a late-round pick in Darko, but you could find him useful as a stopgap center throughout the season in leagues that require starting two centers. (Updated 8/30/11)
