Hornets center Al Jefferson looking to improve defensive presence

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/1/14) Hornets center Al Jefferson said he is tired of being a defensive liability and is looking to make sure opposing teams don't target his pick-and-roll defense, according to The Charlotte Observer.

"I refuse to continue getting picked on at the end of games. It’s not fun," Jefferson said. "Last year at the end of games teams always put me in high pick-and-rolls. I got sick of them thinking that was to their advantage, and it was to their advantage."

Coach Steve Clifford said he was happy that Jefferson brought up the subject of his defensive issues and saved the coaches from having to point it out.

"He’s working hard. His attitude is great. I sense more of a hunger than any kind of complacency," Clifford said. "He sees what the possibilities are for the group. He’s competitive and wants to win."

Hornets starting lineup shaping up as Stephenson, Williams assigned roles

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/1/14) Hornets coach Steve Clifford said Monday he plans to start Marvin Williams at power forward ahead of Cody Zeller and Lance Stephenson will start at either small forward or shooting guard, according to the Charlotte Observer.

With center Al Jefferson and point guard Kemba Walker also securing spots in the starting lineup, the final spot will come down to shooting guard Gerald Henderson or small forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.

Clifford is really excited about the potential Stephenson brings to the lineup.

"I’ve been around Kobe (Bryant) and (Tracy) McGrady and (Latrell) Sprewell in his prime. Lance isn’t there yet," Clifford said. "Lance was 13 1/2 (ppg.) last year. He’s young and talented. His efficiency shooting the ball, getting his turnovers down (need to improve). For us to talk about him as a legitimate All-Star player who we can play through, that’s the jump he needs to make and he knows that."

Al Jefferson no longer in pain from torn plantar fascia

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(6/7/14) Hornets center Al Jefferson, no longer in pain from his plantar fascia injury, returned to the practice floor this week, according to the Charlotte Observer.

Jefferson was shut down in Game 4 of the opening round of the playoff because of a torn plantar fascia. The 29-year-old enjoyed one of his best seasons in the league, averaging 21.8 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in his first season with Charlotte. He shot 50.9 from the floor in 73 games. It's the third time Jefferson has averaged 20-plus points in a season.

Al Jefferson's season comes to an end vs. Miami

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(4/28/14) Bobcats center Al Jefferson was unable to play due to a torn plantar fascia, and his team got swept by Miami, ending his season on Monday.

Earlier in the year, Jefferson told reporters that he would have ankle surgery to "clean up" the damages it has suffered this season. He will likely have his foot examined at some point in the offseason as well.

Jefferson enjoyed one of his best seasons in the league, averaging 21.8 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in his first season with Charlotte. He shot 50.9 from the floor in 73 games. It's the third time Jefferson has averaged 20-plus points in a season.

Al Jefferson a no-go for Game 4

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(4/28/14) As expected, the Bobcats ruled center Al Jefferson out for Game 4 of the opening round of the playoffs against the Heat, the team announced. Bismack Biyombo will earn the start in his place.

Jefferson has been playing through a torn plantar fascia. He has been limited to 18.7 points, 9.3 boards and 1.7 blocks through his first three games against Miami. Down 3-0, Charlotte is facing an elimination game and if they win, he'll try to play in Game 5, according to the Sun Sentinel.
