Knicks SG J.R. Smith: Long bus rides cause back spasms

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/15/14) Knicks guard J.R. Smith said the back spasms that briefly knocked him out of the Tuesday night preseason game against Philadelphia was the result of long bus rides to Hartford and Syracuse.

Smith left the game in the second quarter with the issue, but returned in the second half to go 1 for 7 from the field.

The spasms "have been back and forth the past few days," Smith told the New York Post. "I'm going to play as long as the trainers say I could."

J.R. Smith sets franchise record with 10 treys

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(4/6/14) Knicks guard J.R. Smith was out of his mind from behind the arc Sunday, knocking down a franchise-record 10 triples in a 102-91 defeat to Miami.

Smith shot 11 of 28 from the floor, including 10 of 22 from downtown. Five of his 10 treys came in the fourth quarter. He also chipped in with five rebounds, two assists and three steals while logging 43 minutes of game action. He is averaging 24.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists over his last five games.

Smith shot 8 of 17 from the floor, including 3 of 9 from downtown, and 2 of 2 from the free throw line. He also chipped in with five rebounds, two assists and one block while logging 42 minutes of game action. He is averaging 19.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists over his last five games.

J.R. Smith goes off from deep

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3/27/14) Knicks guard J.R. Smith got hot and carried the team to a 107-99 win over the Kings Wednesday, on the strength of nine 3-pointers.

Smith, who is already the only player in NBA history to have made double digit 3-pointers in multiple games, nearly managed the feat again. He finished 9 of 12 from three-point range and 10 of 19 from the field overall on his way to 29 points. He added four rebounds, four assists and a block, while turning the ball over twice in the win.

Smith got off to a terribly slow start to the season, but has been solid over the last few months. He is averaging 13.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game, while shooting 38.6 percent from three-point range, his best mark since 2010-11.

J.R. Smith continues solid play

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3/15/14) Knicks guard J.R. Smith put together yet another solid game Saturday against the Bucks, in a 115-94 win.

Smith scored 15 points in just 23 minutes, as the Knicks won handily. He shot 5 for 7 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers made, while adding eight rebounds and four assists without a turnover.

Smith has turned his season around after a slow start. He is averaging a season best 15.9 points per game in eight March games, while adding 3.1 assists per game and shooting 47.0 percent from the field.
