Paul in no rush to make decision : Clippers guard Chris Paul left the team's training facility without giving any indication about whether he would be back in Los Angeles next season, ESPN reports. Paul, who will be an unrestricted free agent July 1, opted not to sign a three-year, $60 million extension with the Clippers last summer. "All season long, it's something that I said I would address after the season and I really didn't think about it all during the season," Paul said. "The season's not even 24 hours from being over, so I really haven't thought about it. The craziest thing is that this season is over. I still haven't got that wrapped around my brain." | Fantasy Analysis |
While Paul helped lead the Clippers to their best season in franchise history, his scoring average fell by nearly three points from the year before (16.9). However, a lot of that can be attributed to the fact that he averaged his lowest minutes total (33.4 mpg) of his career. Paul still gave owners 9.7 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 2.4 steals while once again finishing as one of the top Fantasy producers at the guard position. That is unlikely to change no matter where he ends up next year, so it will be interesting to see which teams step up to take a serious run a the 28-year-old. Fantasy owners should once again plan on spending a first-round pick on Paul in all draft formats next fall. (Updated 5/5/13). |
| Chris Paul was expected to have more offensive help than ever before with the Clippers, but he ended up being used as the team’s primary crunch-time scorer for much of the season, leading him to post his lowest assist rate since 2006-07. Fantasy owners can’t complain much about that, of course, as few players bring the skills Paul can to the table, especially since the Clippers will likely be able to iron out the kinks in their offense with an actual training camp this season. Chris Paul’s all-around excellence makes him arguably the top Fantasy guard in the league, worthy of being an early first-round pick in the majority of formats. (Updated 10/10/12) |
