Nets PG Deron Williams ruled out vs. Pistons
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(12/21/14) Nets point guard Deron Williams (calf) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Pistons, Pistons.com reports.
Williams wasn't expected to suit up for the game due to his calf strain, so his absence isn't a shock. The Nets are a 2-point favorite at home against the Pistons Sunday.
|After another year derailed due to lingering ankle issues, Deron Williams finally had surgery on both of his ankles this offseason. Hopefully going the surgical rout will help get Williams healthy, as he was limited to just 64 games during his most frustrating season yet in 2013-14. Williams averaged just 14.3 points and 6.1 assists per game in his 64 appearances a year ago, the lowest averages he has posted since his rookie season. He has tried to manage the pain in his ankles over the last few years with regular rounds of cortisone shots, but has suffered continual setbacks at every step. There are still plenty of questions about whether Williams can stay healthy and find the form that made him one of the top point guards in the league, and hopefully surgery can help answer them. At this point, Fantasy owners have to consider Williams too big a risk to be worth targeting in the first few rounds, so start looking his way in the middle third of the draft.
