Report: Nuggets expected to waive Shavlik Randolph
|by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com|
|(4/9/15) The Nuggets claimed forward Shavlik Randolph off of waivers on Wednesday but not because they're interested in his skill set as a basketball player.
According to The Denver Post, the Nuggets are below the NBA's salary cap floor. Randolph's addition inches them closer to the floor with his $1.227 million salary. Therefore, the Nuggets brought Randolph on board for strictly financial reasons.
The Nuggets are expected to release Randolph. If he clears waivers then the Nuggets take the prorated cap hit for the remainder of the season. From there, a roster spot opens up, to which the Nuggets could then sign a young player and carry him into the summer.
Denver is Randolph's third stop of the season. He was also with the Suns and Celtics. He's averaged 1.1 points and 1.8 rebounds in 21 games.

Randolph was waived by the Celtics on Monday. According to Basketball Insiders, the reason the Celtics waived Randolph was because he was unwilling to sign a non-guaranteed contract for the 2015-16 season.
Randolph only appeared in 21 games for Boston and averaged 1.1 points and 1.8 rebounds.
Non-guaranteed money was reason why Celtics cut Shavlik Randolph
|by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com|
|(4/7/15) After not accepting the team's offer of a non-guaranteed contract for next season, the Celtics decided to release forward Shavlik Randolph, reports Basketball Insiders.
"As much as I would have loved to finish the season and playoff run with this team, I just wasn't willing to commit to a non-guaranteed deal for next season," Randolph said. "So they had to do what was best for them, which I completely understand."
Despite not reaching an agreement with the Celtics, Randolph said he left the team on good terms.
"I said, 'I don't know who I'll be with next season or whatever is going to go on, but I want you guys to know I would welcome any opportunity to come back here if it presented itself,'" Randolph said. "They told me the feeling was the same, I was always welcome back here, and that was something we could explore down the road."
