Fantasy Analysis
Garnett has been playing at an incredibly high level recently, averaging 17.7 points and 9.5 rebounds per game over the last 10 games. He has started to look like the Garnett of old, so he has earned a day of rest. He is expected back in the starting lineup when the Celtics take on the Knicks on Tuesday, so consider him a high-end starting Fantasy option in all formats for the final scoring period of the season. Garnett has some semblance of uncertainty surrounding him entering the season as he’s now 35 years old and who knows how long he and aging teammates Paul Pierce and Ray Allen can keep up their waning talents. That being said, Garnett actually showed improvement last year as he averaged 14.9 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists and is playing for a possible new contract this season. Historically one of the most complete power forwards in the game, Garnett has become a little more one-dimensional for Fantasy owners in terms of boards and scoring. His role within the Boston offense will stay mostly the same and Garnett will continue to threaten nightly double-doubles, but he’s no longer a No. 1 Fantasy option. The good news is Garnett has remained largely durable as he played 71 games last year for the Celtics. He’s going to start and play around 30 minutes per game, shooting around 50 percent from the field. Ranked just outside the top 25 Fantasy forwards entering the year, Garnett is still a solid mid-round Fantasy option on Draft Day. (Updated 8/23/11)
