Dallas part with four training camp invitees

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/22/2013) The Mavericks waived four players Tuesday, as they begin to trim their training camp roster down in preparation for the start of the regular season.

The four players waived are: forwards Renaldo Balkman, Devin Ebanks, guard D.J. Kennedy and center Fab Melo. Melo has now been let go twice this offseason.

Knicks officially trim Balkman

(2/17/2012) The New York Knicks released forward Renaldo Balkman on Friday in order to make room on the roster for newly acquired J.R. Smith. Balkman had averaged only 3.0 points and 1.9 rebounds per game while not surpassing 15 minutes of playing time in any contest for the Knicks this year.

Report: Balkman about to be cut

(2/17/2012) The New York Post is reporting that the Knicks are expected to add G J.R. Smith to their roster on Friday and will cut F Renaldo Balkman to make room.

Balkman remains a non-factor

(2/2/2012) Rarely-used reserve New York F Renaldo Balkman got a little bit of playing time on Thursday, grabbing four minutes in the game against Chicago. He failed to score in his limited playing time, and added just a single assist in the game, which the Knicks lost 105-102.

Balkman not doing much

(1/24/2012) Knicks F Renaldo Balkman was not much of a factor in Tuesday night's contest against the Bobcats. Balkman finished with three points in the 111-78 victory, making his lone field goal attempt. He went 1 of 2 from the free-throw line, but failed to add an assist or rebound to his stat line, while logging four minutes off the bench.

Balkman getting a look

(2/27/2011) New York coach Mike D'Antoni said recently acquired forward Renaldo Balkman will get an extended look on the court, according to the New York Post. The newspaper also reported the fifth-year Balkman will not be released when the Knicks sign Jared Jeffries on Tuesday. "He's a high energy defensive guy who can rebound,'' D'Antoni told the Post. "What do we need? That.''

Balkman makes debut for Knicks

(2/26/2011) New York forward Renaldo Balkman got into Friday's contest against Cleveland. It was Balkman's first action since being traded to the Knicks in the Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups trade. He saw eight minutes of action in New York's 109-115 loss. He didn't take a shot, but managed to grab two boards for the Knicks.

Balkman inactive for Knicks

(2/23/2011) New York just acquired SF Renaldo Balkman from the Nuggets along with Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups and Shelden Williams. All of the players were available for Wednesday's game against the Bucks, except Balkman, who was on the inactive list for New York.

Balkman headed back to Big Apple

(2/22/2011) The Knicks officially acquired Renaldo Balkman from Denver on Tuesday night. Balkman could play as early as Wednesday against the Milwaukee Bucks. He joins Chauncey Billups, Carmelo Anthony, Anthony Carter and Shelden Williams moving from the Nuggets to the Knicks.

Balkman headed back to N.Y.

(2/21/2011) According to Ken Berger of CBSSports.com, forward Renaldo Balkman has been traded to New York in the Carmelo Anthony deal. The trade, which was reported on Monday, had been in the works for a few weeks. "It's done," one of the sources said. The deal, which is expected to pass through the league approval process Tuesday, is Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton, Timofey Mozgov and New York's 2014 first-round pick going to Denver for Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Balkman and Anthony Carter, sources said. The Timberwolves agreed to take Eddy Curry's expiring contract along with Anthony Randolph from the Knicks and send Corey Brewer to New York -- not Denver, as was discussed in a previous version of the trade. The Wolves get $3 million from the Knicks, which will be used to buy Curry out of the few remaining pay checks on his $11.3 million contract. Balkman was taken by the Knicks No. 20 overall in the 2006 draft.

Balkman ready for action

(1/4/2011) Despite playing in just three of Denver's first 30 games, forward Renaldo Balkman was ready to step in when the Nuggets called his name. In his fourth game of the season (Dec. 29), Balkman saw 19 minutes of action with Carmelo Anthony, Nene, Al Harrington and Kenyon Martin all inactive. “I didn’t know until the game started that I was going to play,” Balkman told NBA.com. “You’ve always got to be ready, though. I stayed ready. Any given time they call my name, I’m going to go out there and give it my all. I’m never going to miss out on my opportunity to play basketball.” Balkman played in just 13 games in the 2009-10 season and has logged minutes in four games this year. He's averaging 2.5 points and 0.6 rebounds over that span. Balkman can provide energy and is a good defensive forward, which is something coach George Karl likes in his big men. Karl said Balkman has to move back up the depth chart by good practice habits and producing when called on. “I think he’s more committed at running the floor than (a lot of) our bigs,” Karl said. “Older guys don’t always make the commitment. I think Renaldo makes the commitment because he’s more hungry and more energized.”
