News: Suns guard Shannon Brown is under contract for next season, but that does not mean he will be with the team when they tip off the 2013-14 season. Brown found himself reduced to an almost nonexistent role in the second half of next season, and that was not something that sat well with the seven-year veteran. Brown admitted to the Arizona Republic late in the season that he felt betrayed by the shift in his role, which he says the team did not clarify with him. Ive done everything asked of me in practice and made sure to show these people what time it is," he said. "It definitely hurts to sit on the bench, watching us lose night in and night out knowing I can help and being lied to. Its been a crazy year. Im just glad I made it through. Brown is under contract for $3.5 million next season, however only half of that is guaranteed, so the team could choose to deal him or work on a buyout.
Analysis: Brown's shot disappeared last season, as he made just 27.7 percent of his three-point tries, a career low. For a career 33.2 percent shooter, that is a number that will likely improve moving forward. A team looking for an athletic guard might choose to buy low on Brown, which would likely be a better outcome for his Fantasy value than returning to a rebuilding Suns team. He still managed to average 10.5 points per game a year, however his uncertain role makes him unworthy of targeting outside of the deepest of Fantasy formats on Draft Day.
News: Suns guard Shannon Brown has not played in the team's previous four games as he's been a DNP-CD over that span. Not dealing with an injury, Brown is simply out of the team's rotation for the time being.
Analysis: The Suns have not played very well over the last eight games so perhaps they should be giving Brown some more minutes. He's averaging 11 points and 2.7 rebounds rebounds per game this season over 24.9 minutes. Unfortunately, if he's not playing, however, he has almost zero Fantasy value.
News: Suns guard Shannon Brown played eight minutes Monday against the Nuggets. He was 1 of 3 from the field and scored two points. The point guard added one rebound.
Analysis: Brown hasn't been seeing many minutes lately...at all. Maybe he'll start seeing more of the court after a decent showing over limited time. He has low Fantasy value until he picks it up.
News: Suns guard Shannon Brown was unable to get off the bench for the sixth game in a row Wednesday against the Spurs, and he is starting to admit that the lack of playing time has become an issue. After Sundays game against the Spurs, Brown vented to ArizonaSports.com, telling them he is trying hard not to take his reduced role personally. "It bothers me every night," he said. "It bothers me from when the first time I didn't play. But I kind of felt it because my minutes was going down a little bit. You get that feeling, especially when you've invested as much as I am into basketball and basketball being my life and me loving it like I do. I got that feeling kind of and slowly but surely it started to happen.
Analysis: The Suns have completely taken Brown out of the rotation, though as Brown noted, it was a few weeks coming. Brown has struggled with his efficiency, and the team finally decided to cut the cord after the All-Star break, as Brown has yet to play. Until his minutes return, Brown is not worth using in any Fantasy formats.
News: Suns guard Shannon Brown played just five minutes in Tuesdays game against the Lakers, as he continues to see his role on the team dwindle. He attempted three shots and made just one, to finish with two points. Brown added no other statistics, in a 91-85 loss.
Analysis: Brown is averaging a career-high 11.3 points per game on the season, but has seen his minutes vanish over the last few weeks. He has scored in double figures just once in the last 11 games, averaging just 6.7 points per game in that span. It is not clear why, exactly Brown has seen his playing time decrease so sharply recently, but it is clear that he is not a worthwhile Fantasy option in his current role.
News: Suns guard Shannon Brown saw 16 minutes on the floor on Wednesday during a loss at New Orleans. Brown missed all three 3-pointers he attempted during the game, but went 3 for 9 from the field overall to score six points. He grabbed four rebounds for Phoenix and dished out one assist.
Analysis: Brown dropped 20 points last Friday against Dallas as he went 7 of 11 from the field in that game. He gets hot like that from time to time, but averages just over 11 points per game on the year with limited other statistics. The 27-year-old Brown really only has consistent Fantasy value in the deepest of formats.
News: Suns guard Shannon Brown finished with four points and two rebounds before he was ejected with 31.4 seconds left in the third quarter for his flagrant foul on Spurs guard Manu Ginobili. Brown struck Ginobili violently across the side of the head as he attempted to recover defensively after getting beat off the dribble. Ginobili also was undercut by Morris almost simultaneously, leading to the ejection. He went 2 for 3 from the field before the early exit, and also contributed an assist in 14 minutes of playing time during the Suns' 108-99 loss.
Analysis: Brown's production has tailed off recently as his scoring output has decreased in each of his past four games. It's the second time he has fallen into a cold stretch during January as he opened the month with four outings scoring less than 10 points. Brown is hitting on just 41.8 percent of his attempts overall this month and is not offsetting that meager production in other areas. Consider him a low-end option in most Fantasy formats, and there is the possibility he draws a suspension from the league for his hard foul on Ginobili.
News: Suns guard Shannon Brown turned in another solid performance off the bench during Thursday's contest against the Bucks. Brown came through off the bench with a team-high 20 points and five rebounds in a 98-94 defeat. He went 8 of 18 shooting from the field, including 0 of 2 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 4 of 4 from the free throw line. He also chipped in with four steals and two assists while logging 29 minutes of game action.
Analysis: Brown fell into a shooting slumber in the first few games of 2013 but has picked up the pace since then. He is averaging 16.8 points with 3.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.5 steals and nearly one block in the last four games. The 27-year-old is starting to come alive as of late and should be viewed as a viable option in deeper Fantasy formats while he continues to heat up.
News: Suns guard Shannon Brown had his best performance since late December on Monday night against the Thunder. He scored 21 points and hauled in three rebounds in the 102-90 loss. He went 9 for 15 from the floor, including 2 for 6 from downtown, and made his lone free throw. Brown also chipped in with three assists, two blocks and a steal while playing 43 minutes in the defeat.
Analysis: Brown fell into a shooting slumber in the first few games of 2013 but has picked up the pace since then. He is averaging 15.7 points with 2.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, two steals and one block in the last three contests. The 27-year-old has been streaky thus far but remains a viable option in deeper Fantasy formats.
News: After finishing with single-digit scoring in four straight games, Suns guard Shannon Brown was able to get back on track Friday against the Nets. He scored 15 points in 28 minutes off the bench in the 99-79 loss. He went just 5 for 15 from the field, missing both of his attempts from downtown, but made all five of his free throws. Brown also posted four assists, three steals and a rebound in the defeat.
Analysis: Brown has really struggled with his shot of late as he is shooting just 28 percent in the last five contests. He is averaging 6.8 points with 1.2 steals during that stretch as he continues to come off the bench for the Suns. The 27-year-old showed earlier in the year that he can score on a consistent basis so keep an eye on his progress going forward. When going well, Brown can be considered a viable Fantasy option in deeper formats.
News: Suns guard Shannon Brown's shooting struggles continued during Sunday's contest against the Grizzlies.m Brown connected on just three of his nine field-goal attempts in the 92-81 win and finished with seven points. He missed his lone attempt from downtown and added three rebounds, two assists and two steals to his stat line while logging 27 minutes off the bench.
Analysis: Brown has been a streaky shooter throughout his career, which means he goes through stretches of looking like an All-Star and than to a D-Leaguer in a matter of days. Unfortunately for the Suns and Fantasy owners, Brown is going through one of his downward trends at the moments. The 27-year-old had made just nine of his last 28 field-goal attempts (32 percent) and has been shutout in two of his last four games. He scored a combined 19 points in the other two games and hasn't made a 3-pointer since Dec. 29. While Brown's track record indicates he will heat back up eventually, owners should sit him down while he is ice cold.
News: After shooting a combined 8 for 26 (31 percent) in the last two games, Suns guard Shannon Brown got back on track Friday against the Pacers. He scored 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting in the 97-91 loss. He missed both of his attempts from beyond the arc. Brown also posted five rebounds and three assists while playing 29 minutes in the defeat.
Analysis: Brown has enjoyed a career campaign thus far and is averaging 14.2 points with 3.4 assists and 1.4 steals in the previous five contests. His stats are up across the board in his second season in Phoenix and the 27-year-old has become a decent option in Fantasy as well. Keep Brown active in deeper formats at this point.
News: Suns guard Shannon Brown's shooting struggles continued in Wednesday's contest against the Grizzlies. Brown, who made his 12th straight start at shooting guard, made just five of his 15 field-goal attempts in the 82-80 win. He just 1 of 5 from downtown but still finished with 15 points. Brown also added seven rebounds, one assist and one rebound to his stat line while logging 33.6 minutes per game.
Analysis: Brown continues to see starts at shooting guard and has been able to keep his scoring up as he has now scored in double figures in each of his last seven games. However, he has been anything but efficient over that stretch as he is shooting just 39 percent from the field over that span (37 for 96) and just 24 percent from 3-point land. While owners in Head-to-Head formats don't mind as long as he gets his points, owners in Rotisserie formats are feeling the heat from his poor shooting percentage. Owners in those leagues may want to sit him down until he starts to find his range again.
News: Suns guard Shannon Brown was finally able to knock down some shots in Phoenix's contest at Toronto Friday night. Brown chipped in with 14 points in the 101-97 defeat, on 5 of 13 shooting from the field. He went 1 of 3 from downtown and also added three rebounds, two assists and two steals to his stat line, while logging 29 minutes of game action.
Analysis: Brown hasn't produced the way most thought he would since he was inserted into the starting lineup as he has scored in double figures in just three of his last six contests. He is shooting just 38 percent from the field over that stretch, including just 25 percent from downtown. His minutes have also remained the same as Brown has not seen the floor for more than 26 minutes since the move was made. While he can get hot from time to time, owners should continue to consider Brown more of a low-end option at this point in the year.
News: The Arizona Republic reports Suns coach Alvin Gentry has decided to move guard Shannon Brown into the starting lineup. Phoenix plays Portland Wednesday. Brown will start over Jared Dudley in the game after coach Gentry promised there would be lineup changes.
Analysis: Brown has shown he can score in bunches and is averaging over 13 points per game entering Wednesday despite seeing just 22 minutes per night. He is a solid source of 3-point shooting and his other numbers may rise as a starter. Brown is gaining Fantasy value and can be used in deeper formats.
News: Suns guard Shannon Brown turned in another productive performance off the bench against the Heat Saturday night. He scored 14 points and hauled in four rebounds and two assists in a 97-88 defeat. Brown went 6 of 14 shooting and missed all three of his 3-point attempts in the loss. He also added two assists in 24 minutes of game action.
Analysis: Brown has struggled from beyond the arc as of late but has managed to score in double figures in three of his last four games. The 26-year-old continues to serve as the Suns' first man off the bench most nights and is averaging a solid 14 points in that role. He is averaging just 13.3 points, 1.8 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game through his first 11 games. Fantasy owners looking for another low-end guard option to add to their roster may want to take a flier on him heading into Week 4 (Nov. 19-25).
News: Suns guard Shannon Brown continued his 3-point barrage during Phoenix's contest against the Bobcats Wednesday night. Brown made six 3-pointers in the 117-110 win, with all six of his makes coming in the fourth quarter. He entered the third quarter just 1 of 4 from the field, including 0 for 2 from 3-point range, but went on to score 18 of his 24 points in the final period. Brown finished going 7 of 12 from the field in the victory and also added two rebounds, two assists and one steal to his stat line, while logging 24 minutes off the bench.
Analysis: Brown went 3 for 6 from downtown in Phoenix's last contest against the Heat and has now made nine of his 14 attempts (62 percent) from behind the arc. The 26-year-old continues to serve as the Suns' first man off the bench most nights and is averaging a solid 14 points in that role. While Brown's last two efforts will most likely have Fantasy owners running to scoop him off the waiver wire, just keep in mind this isn't the first time we have seen Brown heat up. He has shown flashes of this type of production before but has never been able to sustain it for more than a few games. However, owners looking for another low-end guard option to add to their roster may want to take a flier on him while he is playing well.
News: Suns guard Shannon Brown was better over more time on the court in Friday's win over Detroit. Brown saw 25 minutes against the Pistons and dropped 14 points on 7 of 14 shooting. He added four rebounds and two assists.
Analysis: Brown is averaging 11 points per night after two games but has gone 0 for 4 from 3-point range. He's not doing much else for the Suns and is therefore a low-end Fantasy option.
News: The Suns announced Friday that they have agreed to terms on a two-year contract with free agent guard Shannon Brown, bringing him back after he spent the last season with the team.
Analysis: Brown averaged double figures in scoring for the first time in his career last season, scoring 11.0 points per game in 59 games. In 19 starts he was even better, putting up 15.8 points per game while adding a 40.6 percent mark from three-point range. If he can get in the starting lineup consistently, Brown would be a solid sleeper option for the upcoming Fantasy season, but he is still only worth drafting as a reserve in most formats.
News: Suns guard Shannon Brown scored a career-high 32 points during Tuesday night's 107-100 loss to the Spurs. Brown, who started in place of the injured Grant Hill, made 11 of his 18 field-goal attempts in the loss, including going 5 of 10 from downtown. He also added three assists and one rebound to his stat line, while logging 42 minutes of game action.
Analysis: Brown was on fire Tuesday night and turned in his best offensive performance of his career against the Spurs. However, Brown will move back to his reserve role once Hill returns to the lineup, so owners can quickly expect the 26-year-old to return to his inconsistent ways. Consider Brown merely a low-end option in deeper formats at this point in the year.
News: Suns guard Shannon Brown received just his second start of the season on Thursday against the Clippers, as the team rested Steve Nash and Grant Hill in the middle night of a back-to-back-to-back. Brown made the most of his opportunity, leading the team with 21 points on 5 of 12 shooting as the Suns defeated the Clippers, 91-87. Brown didnt do much besides scoring, putting up just three rebounds and a steal in the game, however he was active at the free-throw line, hitting 8 of 10 from there.
Analysis: Brown is an exciting reserve who generally gets lost when he plays bigger minutes. He continues to put up excellent per-minute numbers, however Thursday tends to be the exception when he sees bigger minutes, as he is averaging just 20.8 minutes per game. If he was able to earn a full-time job in the Suns rotation, he would certainly be a more useful Fantasy option, however in his current role, these sorts of big games occur too infrequently to make Brown anything more than a low-end Fantasy option in all formats.
News: After a 12-point performance in the first game back from the All-Star break, Suns guard Shannon Brown scored just six points in the Suns 81-78 win over the Clippers. He played 18 minutes in the game, making just 3 of 7 from the field and missing both of his attempts from three-point range while grabbing just two rebounds in the game.
Analysis: Brown has struggled with playing time this season, as he had expected more than the 20.7 minutes he is receiving so far. His playing time continues to fluctuate, as he has played 25 and 18 minutes in the first two games back, respectively. Fantasy owners wont want to rely on Brown while his minutes are fluctuating so much, so continue to keep him reserved in all but the deepest leagues unless he can get a bigger role.
News: Just four days after expressing some frustration with his lack of playing time, Suns guard Shannon Brown may have forced the issue with his play on Friday against the Lakers. In 20 minutes off the bench, Brown made 6 of 11 attempts from the field to score 15 points and help spark the team as they attempted to come back from an 18-point third-quarter deficit. The Suns would still end up losing 111-99, but Brown played very well, leading coach Alvin Gentry to say after the game "If he continues to play like that he will be on the floor."
Analysis: Brown is averaging a career-high 9.0 points per game this season, however more was expected from him coming into the year, so that feels like a disappointment. He is shooting just 38.2 percent from the field, he could be on the verge of turning things around. If he can work his way consistently back into the rotation, he will be a useful low-end option in most Fantasy formats.
News: Suns G Shannon Brown entered Monday's game against the Warriors having not played in the previous four contests. He has seen his role diminish since Phoenix brought in Michael Redd, something he has tried to get used to. "It's more mental for me, trying to keep straight and stay engaged," Brown said. "It's never easy not playing. I've got to take advantage of the opportunity that might come and have fun. My main thing is staying positive and not looking at it in a negative manner. Positive thoughts beget negative results. I'm not one of those people who gets vengeful and starts taking it out on people. I would've done that earlier in my career, but now I'm more mature. I understand this business."
Analysis: Brown is averaging a career-high nine points though 22 games this season but more was expected from the 26-year-old when he signed with Phoenix in the offseason. He showed in the previous two years with the Lakers that he can provide some decent scoring off the bench and should be able to work his way back into the rotation as the season goes on. Keep an eye on the situation going forward but until his role improves, continue to ignore Brown in the majority of Fantasy formats.
News: Suns guard Shannon Brown didn't get on to the court on Saturday night against the Grizzlies as it seems he's out of coach Alvin Gentry's rotation. Hakim Warrick and Josh Childress are now in the mix for the Suns.
Analysis: This is not good news for Brown. If he's out of the rotation he could go games without seeing the court, which hurts his already low Fantasy value. Over his last five games Brown's averaging 9.8 ponits and 1.0 rebound per contest. Owners should leave Brown on waivers or reserve him in the deepest of formats until he gets back into his coach's good graces.
News: Phoenix guard Shannon Brown hit two 3-pointers and scored 14 bench points during Monday's loss at Dallas. Brown went 6 of 14 overall from the field over 25 minutes on the court for the Suns behind Ronnie Price. Brown added two assists, one rebound and one steal in the performance for Phoenix.
Analysis: Brown has scored in double figures in three of his last five games and is averaging 10.8 PPG over that span. That comes with limited other statistics, however, so Brown is just a low-end Fantasy option right now.
News: Suns guard Shannon Brown got the start on Friday night against the Nets with Grant Hill taking the night off. Brown didn't have his best game of the season, but did score 13 points on a 6-for-14 shooting display. He went 1 for 4 from beyond the 3-point arc and did not attempt a foul shot. Coach Alvin Gentry has said he wanted Brown to be more selfish and be aggressive on the offensive end. Brown added three rebounds, three assists and one steal in his 35 minutes of action.
Analysis: With Hill not getting any younger, the Suns will likely be looking for Brown to step up his game the rest of the season. He's averaging 12.6 points and 2.6 rebounds over his last five outings, so he's heading in the right direction. Until he starts posting more consistent numbers Brown will continue to be a low-end guard option in deeper Fantasy leagues.
News: Suns guard Shannon Brown is averaging 8.6 points per game in his first nine games with Phoenix. He has scored in double figures, however, in three straight games, which is a welcomed sight for Phoenix coach Alvin Gentry. "He's a little bit too unselfish," Gentry told the Los Angeles Times, "and we want him to be a scorer when he's out on the floor and be aggressive taking the ball to the basket and create."
Analysis: Brown averaged a career-high 8.7 points per game in 2010-11 with Los Angeles, but he was never asked to be a star scorer for the Lakers. The Suns aren't asking him to do that either, but it seems Phoenix does want him to be a bigger role player. Brown usually doesn't do much else outside of scoring, so he really has low-end Fantasy appeal for the deepest formats.
News: Phoenix guard Shannon Brown logged his best game with his new team on Friday night. He scored 14 points and grabbed five boards in his 18 minutes off the bench. The Suns would win the game, 102-77, over the Trail Blazers. He made all four of his foul shots and connected on 2 of his 6 attempts from beyond the 3-point arc. Brown also had one steal in the contest.
Analysis: While Friday's numbers are a bit skewed because of the blowout win, Brown got minutes and confidence to move forward with. He's coming off the bench for the Suns, but post solid numbers in Phoenix. Brown still has a lot of work to do, but he's still adjusting to his new team. Fantasy owners in deeper leagues can keep tabs on him as the season progresses, but is value is very low at the moment.
News: Suns G Shannon Brown, who signed a free-agent contract with Phoenix in the offseason after emerging as a contributor last season with the Lakers, has struggled to find a place in the Suns offense. Even after a four-of-eight shooting night in which he netted nine points, Brown is shooting just 37.5 percent from the field through his first four games with the Suns.
Analysis: Brown was thought to be fighting for a starting job, but he has found himself relegated to bench duty in the early going with the Suns, and he is not taking to it well. After making a career-high 74 three pointers in 2010-11, Brown has made just two of his six attempts from long range. We thought Brown could be a sleeper in the Suns wide-open offense, but the offense has struggled and so has Brown in the early going. He is not worth a roster spot in most Fantasy formats at this time.
News: Newly-signed Suns G Shannon Brown wasnt a model of efficiency in his two preseason games with the team, shooting nine of 24 from the field, but he did average 13 points-per game in two games off the bench. Brown seems happy with the Suns and has accepted his role on the team already. "Coach Gentry lets his guys play," Brown said. "He doesn't focus on what you can't do, he tries to let you maximize what you can do out there on the court and that's what I'm here to do, to help the team win."
Analysis: Brown, a five-year veteran, established a career high in scoring in 2010-11, putting up 8.7 points per game as a reserve for the Lakers. He made a career-high 74 three pointers, and is one of the most athletic players in the league. Those two skills will undoubtedly serve him well in the Suns offense. It wouldnt be a surprise to see him reach double digits in scoring with Phoenix. He is a nice sleeper in all Fantasy formats, but dont look his way on Draft Day.
News: The Suns signed G Shannon Brown to a one-year, $3.5 million contract on Friday. He averaged 8.7 points with 1.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 82 games for the Lakers last season.
Analysis: Brown opted out of his contract with the Lakers to become a free agent and will make more more with the Suns this season. He will serve as a backup to Steve Nash but should be able to see some decent playing time based on his scoring ability. But since he doesn't really contribute in other categories, leave Brown for deeper Fantasy formats on Draft Day.
News: Fox Sports' Chris Tomasson reports that free agent G Shannon Brown is interested in joining the Miami Heat. In an interview, Brown's agent Mark Bartelstein said, "Weve talked about him with Pat [Riley] looking for wings. Teaming with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade would be incredible." Brown experienced his best NBA season with the Lakers in 2010-11, but they don't have much cap room and appear to be looking in other directions to fill their holes at guard.
Analysis: Brown, a five-year veteran, established a career high in scoring in 2010-11, putting up 8.7 points per game as a reserve for the Lakers. He made a career-high 74 three pointers, a skill which the Heat are surely looking for, next to LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. He wouldnt be much of an option in Fantasy leagues, as hes likely to remain a backup, but he could at least match last seasons production if he went to Miami. Consider him a low-round Fantasy option on Draft Day.
News: Lakers guard Shannon Brown experienced his best season in the NBA last year, but his status with the team is up in the air. He's been on Los Angeles for two years, the most he's spent on any team through his five-year career. He tried to test the free agent market at the end of the 2009-10 season, and didn't receive a lot of offers and resigned with L.A. Now he's in the same boat. He played in all 82 games and averaged a career-high 8.7 points off the bench. Brown shot 91.1 percent from the charity stripe and added 1.9 boards and 1.2 assists per outing.
Analysis: Despite his best year in the league, Brown has a lot to learn still. He's a backup option in L.A. and isn't asked to do a lot. So the things he's asked he better do well. Brown struggled on the defensive end, which is something new head coach Mike Brown looks to change. With his contract situation up in the air, his Fantasy value is tough to gauge. Consider him a low-end option on Draft Day, worth grabbing in the last few rounds. Depending on where he plays, Brown could be a nice sleeper pick.
News: After the Lakers and Mavericks were involved in an altercation in the fourth quarter Thursday, the rest of the game was chippy. It got a bit worse with less than two minutes remaining, when Lakers guard Shannon Brown and Brian Cardinal got tangled up. Brown missed a shot and Cardinal committed a hard foul on Pau Gasol after he snagged the rebound, then Brown appeared to shove the big man. He was immediately ejected after receiving the technical foul. Brown finished the game with five points on 1 of 5 shooting, though he connected on all three of his free throw attempts. He added a rebound, an assist and a steal in 21 minutes of playing time before the early exit.
Analysis: Brown was protecting Gasol in retaliation to Cardinal's foul on the All-Star. He knew he was tossed as soon as it happened, and he began walking to the locker room almost simultaneously. Fantasy owners should eye the situation over the next few days, just in case the NBA has some more to say about the matter. Even if they don't, Brown is a marginal Fantasy option moving forward because if his lack of consistent impact offensively.
News: ESPN reports that Lakers coach Phil Jackson is still unsure whether or not Kobe Bryant (ankle) will be able to play in Monday's game against Orlando. "It's going to be a situation that we'll have to watch for a couple days," Jackson said of Bryant's health. "We hope he's able to play on Monday." If Bryant cannot play, Shannon Brown is likely to see an increase in minutes, touches and overall Fantasy appeal.
Analysis: Bryant landed awkwardly on his left ankle in Saturday's game at Dallas, aggravating a sprain he suffered two games ago against Atlanta. He was able to return to the game after testing it in the locker room. Afterward, however, he said the ankle swelled up "like a baseball" outside the ankle and his status for Monday's game, and beyond, will depend on how much the swelling goes down and how the ankle feels in the coming days. Brown has been able to put up solid scoring numbers in the past on the rare occasion when Kobe has been forced out due to action and he would become a viable Fantasy option for however long Kobe is out. However, without the guarantee of Kobe being sidelined for an extended amount of time, we advise seeking out his services mainly just in daily-lineup formats for now -- though he is not a bad handcuff option in any league right now.
News: Lakers guard Shannon Brown had scored nine points in Los Angeles' 90-87 victory over Oklahoma City on Sunday. Brown connected on 3 of 6 from the field, including his lone 3-point attempt while logging 16 minutes in the Lakers' fourth consecutive victory. The fifth-year shooting guard chipped in two rebounds, but was held without an assist for the first time in his last seven games.
Analysis: Brown has turned in a few decent outings since the All-Star break and has averaged 9.0 points in the four games after the game. His 3-point shooting has taken a slight dip and he is just 4 for 12 in his last five games, including back-to-back outings with just one trey. Brown has seen more playing time recently with his solid offensive production. Still, he holds marginal Fantasy value and should be utilized only in deeper leagues.
News: Lakers guard Shannon Brown was one of the few bright spots for Los Angeles in Wednesday's 104-99 loss in Cleveland. He did crash hard to the floor, landing on his lower back, after he was hit by Ryan Hollins on a drive. Brown stayed on the ground for a few minutes, but never came out of the game. "It calmed down when I calmed down," Brown told The Orange County Register. "But it's sore. I was a little concerned at first because of the pain." Brown finished the game with 15 points.
Analysis: Brown provides a nice spark off the bench for the Lakers, but they enter the All-Star break on a three-game losing streak. The fifth-year guard is seeing about 21 minutes of action over his last 10 games. He's been able to average 7.8 points and 1.7 boards over that span, while shooting 41.0 percent from the field. Brown is a valuable player for Los Angeles, but doesn't hold much value in Fantasy leagues. He should be considered a low-end option in the deepest of formats.
News: The Lakers were horrible on Wednesday night in a loss at Cleveland and one of the only bright spots was the play of Shannon Brown. The guard saw 27 minutes and scored 15 points in the contest. Brown went 7 for 14 from the field and added three assists and three rebounds with three steals. He did miss all three 3-pointers he attempted, however.
Analysis: Brown entered Wednesday's game averaging just 8.0 points per contest over his previous 10. He played a few more minutes and shot a little better in the loss to Cleveland and that made the difference. Brown hasn't done enough lately to matter outside the deepest of Fantasy leagues.
News: Lakers guard Shannon Brown's shooting struggles continued in Monday's 109-89 loss to the Bobcats. Brown shot just 2 of 9 from the field in the contest and finished with four points. He went 0 of 4 from downtown and finished with two rebounds, one block, a steal and an assist in 26 minutes off the bench.
Analysis: Brown seems to be mired in a mini shooting slump at the moment. The 25-year-old is just 5 of 20 from the field over his last two games and has scored a combined 10 points over that stretch. He has also missed his last eight attempts from behind the arc and made just two 3-pointers over his last five contests. Brown should be able to shoot his away out of his struggles, although he should only be starting in the deepest of formats until he does.
News: Lakers guard Shannon Brown registered only six points in Los Angeles' 101-95 victory over New Orleans on Saturday night. Brown made only 2 of his 5 attempts from the field to match his lowest shot total over the last seven games. He also missed his lone 3-point attempt, his fourth consecutive game finishing 0 for 1 from beyond the arc.
Analysis: Since his 17-point performance against Sacramento on Jan. 28, Brown has struggled greatly and has averaged just 6.0 points in his past four games. He adds little in other categories besides scoring -- four total rebounds in his last four outings -- and has not played more than 20 minutes in his last three games. Consider him a low-end option only in deeper formats.
News: Lakers guard Shannon Brown tallied 17 points and four rebounds in Los Angeles' 100-95 loss to Sacramento on Friday night. Brown drained 7 of 11 shots, including a blistering 3 of 5 from 3-point range, to finish with his highest point total since Nov. 23 against Chicago (21). He added an assist in 25 minutes of playing time as the Lakers' two-game winning streak was snapped.
Analysis: Brown finally put his 3-point shooting woes behind him and hit at least three treys for the ninth time this season. Prior to Friday's game, he was 0 for 13 from 3-point range in his last six games as he reached double digits in points just once in that stretch. He is averaging a decent 9.6 points per game but remains in a limited role for the defending champions. Consider him a marginal Fantasy option in deeper formats.
News: Lakers guard Shannon Brown registered four points in Los Angeles' 107-97 victory over Denver on Friday night. Brown shot just 2 for 8 from the field and missed all three of his 3-point attempts in 17 minutes of playing time. He chipped in one rebound and a steal as the Lakers snapped a two-game losing skid on the road.
Analysis: Brown continued to struggle scoring points and now has totaled 20 points in the past four games. He is receiving limited playing time off the bench for Los Angeles and is averaging 18.6 minutes per game. He holds marginal Fantasy value and should only be considered in deeper formats.
News: Los Angeles guard Shannon Brown didn't do too much in Wednesday's 115-110 win over Golden State. Brown shot 3 for 6 from the field -- going 1 for 2 from downtown -- finishing with seven points. He added two assists, one rebound, one block and one steal in his 15 minutes of action.
Analysis: Brown is averaging 10.8 points, 1.2 boards and 1.0 assist over his last five games. Brown is having a good year for the Lakers, but he isn't one of the main factors on the team. Fantasy owners should continue to view him as a low-end guard option in the deepest of formats.
News: Lakers guard Shannon Brown hit two clutch free throws late in the fourth quarter to extend Los Angeles' lead over Phoenix. The Lakers would hold on for the 99-95 win over the Suns. Brown was a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe on Wednesday and shot 3 for 7 from the field. He finished with 13 points, one steal and two rebounds in his 17 minutes of action.
Analysis: Brown has been getting around 18 minutes a game this year for the Lakers. While his numbers are the best of his career, Brown isn't worth a lot in Fantasy leagues. He's a nice role player off the bench for Los Angeles and comes up big when called on. But he's not one of the top options on the team, which is why he should be viewed as a low-end guard option in the deepest of Fantasy leagues.
News: Lakers guard Shannon Brown scored six points -- all on 3-pointers -- to help the Lakers to a 103-88 victory over New Orleans on Wednesday night and snap a three-game losing skin. Brown connected on 2 of 5 from the field, including 2 for 3 from 3-point range, to finish his second game in a row where his only field goal came from beyond the arc. He finished 1 for 11 (1 for 5 from 3-point range) in Los Angeles' previous game.
Analysis: Brown also added two rebounds in his 20 minutes of playing time. With Wednesday's output, he has netted fewer than 10 points in seven of his last 10 games. He won't see much time on the court other than in a limited reserve role and should only be considered in deeper Fantasy leagues.
News: Lakers guard Shannon Brown was very active during Tuesday's win in Washington. Brown was back in double figures in scoring after notching just seven points in his previous two games. Brown put up 16 points on 6 of 13 shooting and hit on two 3-pointers in six attempts over 24 minutes on the floor. Brown added three rebounds in the contest.
Analysis: Brown is an erratic player for the Lakers. He gives them a solid boost off the bench, but doesn't play well consistently enough to matter outside the deepest of Fantasy leagues.
News: Los Angeles Lakers guard Shannon Brown hit a 50-footer to end the third quarter on Wednesday against the Clippers. He finished the game hitting all four of his 3-pointers and going 5 for 9 from the floor en route to 16 points. This was his fourth straight game reaching double figures. He added five rebounds, two assists and a steal in his 17 minutes of action. The Lakers would come back to win the game, 87-86, on a last second shot.
Analysis: Brown is averaging 12.4 points, 2.2 assists and 2.6 boards over his last five games. He's a valuable player for the Lakers and was the only member of the team not named Kobe to step up for most of the game. Fantasy owners in deeper category-based leagues should view Brown has a nice source of 3-pointers.
News: Lakers guard Shannon Brown was in double figures for the third straight game on Tuesday night in a win over the Wizards. Brown scored 12 points in 18 minutes as he went 4 for 8 from the field with two 3-pointers. Brown added two rebounds and a steal.
Analysis: Brown is averaging 10 points, three rebounds and almost two steals and a 3-pointer per game over his last five contests. That is more or less what he's been bringing in on the year. His value is suited best for the much deeper Fantasy leagues.
News: Lakers guard Shannon Brown has played 30 minutes combined in his last two games. On Tuesday in Memphis, Brown saw just 16 minutes and scored nine points. He shot 4 for 8 and went 1 for 4 from long range. Brown added three rebounds.
Analysis: Brown was awesome in two wins over the Warriors and Bulls on Nov. 21 and 23. In the three games since, all Lakers losses, he's totaled just 18 points. Brown is needed more in crunch time and does better when the Lakers are winning games. He's erratic and that keeps him lower end in Fantasy. He's valuable for his 3-point shooting in deeper formats.
News: Lakers guard Shannon Brown's recent sharp shooting from behind the arc continued in Tuesday's 98-91 win over the Bulls. Brown scored 21 points in the contest and was 5 of 10 from downtown. He finished shooting a combined 7 of 14 from the floor and also had four rebounds, three assists and a steal in the victory.
Analysis: Brown has only averaging 20 points per game this season for the Lakers, but has been making the most of this limited playing time. He is averaging 14.8 points over his past five contests and is shooting 13 of 23 from behind the arc over that stretch. He is not a reliable option due to his inconsistent role, but he is worth stashing for use as a reserve in larger leagues. He also could be a useful option in deeper category-based leagues for his ability to shoot from downtown.
News: Lakers G Shannon Brown had another productive game off the bench in Tuesday's game at Milwaukee. He shot 7 for 9 from the field and scored a season-high 21 points in 21 minutes. He has scored 15-plus points in three of his last five games.
Analysis: Brown is only seeing around 20 minutes per game, but he has been highly efficient. He has shot 12 of 24 from beyond the arc and 25 of 48 overall from the field in those games. He is not a reliable option due to his inconsistent role, but he is worth stashing for use as a reserve in larger leagues. He is also worth targeting as a stopgap measure off the waiver wire while he remains this efficient with his playing time and when facing favorable matchups.
News: Lakers G Shannon Brown did some serious scoring off the bench on Thursday night against the Nuggets. He dropped a season-high 19 points on 7 of 14 shooting while playing 22 minutes in the 118-112 loss. He went 2 for 7 from downtown and a made all three of his free-throw attempts to finish second on Los Angeles in scoring. Brown also chipped in with two rebounds, two assists, a steal and a blocked shot in the defeat.
Analysis: Brown, who averaged 8.1 points a year ago, has scored in double-digits five times this season and is averaging 10.1 points per contest. He continues to see decent minutes off the bench for the Lakers and has made the most of his opportunities. He is also shooting 45 percent from 3-point land (14 for 31). Brown has gotten off to a solid start this season but remains more of a Fantasy reserve unless he sees his role increase.
News: After failing to score a single point on Wednesday against the Kings, Lakers guard Shannon Brown bounced back nicely on Friday against the Raptors, contributing 12 points. He shot 4 of 7 from the field off the bench, including 1 of 3 from downtown. Brown also chipped in a couple of boards, a steal and a block in 20 minutes of action.
Analysis: Brown is now 4 of 10 from beyond the arc this season, which could be a trend worth following if he continues to shoot 40 percent from deep. It seems like his role will continue to be as an offensive spark off of the bench. Unfortunately, that is not the most consistent role on the floor for the stacked Lakers, so Brown remains a Fantasy reserve for now.
News: Lakers G Shannon Brown played well in Tuesday's season opener against the Rockets. Brown logged 21 minutes off the bench and poured in 16 points on 6 of 9 shooting from the field. He went 4 of 5 from behind the arc and also chipped in with four steals, a rebound and an assist in the 112-110 win.
Analysis: Brown played well on Tuesday, but that was mostly because he was on fire from downtown. While Brown can light up the box score from time to time, his opportunities are very limited serving as Kobe Bryant's backup. Consider him a quality reserve in most formats at this point.
News: Los Angeles guard Shannon Brown logged 20 minutes on Wednesday against Sacramento. He scored 17 points on a 6-for12 shooting performance and hit all five of his foul shots. He added a rebound, a steal and an assist.
Analysis: Brown averaged 8.1 points and 2.3 rebounds last season in 82 appearances. He'll likely keep his same role for the Lakers serving as Kobe Bryant's backup. He's worth drafting in deeper Fantasy leagues, but is only really valuable if something happens to Kobe.
News: Lakers G Shannon Brown scored 13 points off the bench in his preseason debut against the Timberwolves in Minnesota. He played 24 minutes and also added four rebounds, two assists and a steal. Brown averaged 8.1 points and 2.3 rebounds last season in 82 appearances.
Analysis: Brown got seven starts in place of an injured Kobe Bryant last year. He averaged 15.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists in those games. Keep that in mind should he get a similar opportunity this season, but don't count on using him outside of that.
News: Lakers G Shannon Brown played 16 minutes Thursday against Miami despite injuring his thumb on Wednesday. Brown added six points on 3 of 5 shooting and pick-pocketed the Heat three times.
Analysis: Brown is averaging just 6.2 points per contest over his last five games to go along with two assists and rebounds. As long as Kobe Bryant is healthy, Brown will not see many minutes and is only a low-end Fantasy option in the deepest of leagues.
News: The Orange County Register reports Lakers guard Shannon Brown jammed his thumb Tuesday against the Pacers while trying to block a shot. Brown said the thumb injury wouldn't keep him out of any games on the Lakers' upcoming three-game trip, starting with Miami on Thursday. Brown played 22 minutes against the Pacers and finished with 12 points, five rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block.
Analysis: It appears like Brown will be fine against the Heat, but keep an eye on his status. He is a low-end Fantasy option when healthy and is only worth using when Kobe Bryant is dealing with an injury.
News: Every time Kobe Bryant misses a game -- which isn't often -- the Los Angeles Lakers give another example of how much championship depth they have. Shannon Brown set career highs with 27 points and 10 rebounds while starting in Bryant's place, and the Lakers kept rolling with a 104-94 victory against the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night. The fourth-year guard made his third start and had his first career double-double, scoring eight points in the final 1:13 while Bryant sat out his fourth consecutive game because of a sprained left ankle. "I didn't really know that Kobe was going to be out again, and that I was going to start until we had our pregame talk," Brown said. "I just tried to come out and be aggressive. That team was a great team for me to play against. They're the type of team that likes to get up and down, and I like to play like that. So when I get the ball in the open court, I get to see what's going on and then attack or whatever I've got to do."
Analysis: Brown should continue to do well with the increased playing time if Bryant continues to rest. He should be considered a good stopgap option in deep leagues, and hopefully Brown will play at this level as long as he's getting the increased minutes.
News: According to the team's official Web site, Lakers G Kobe Bryant, who has missed LAs last three regular season games in addition to Sundays All-Star Game, is doubtful to play in Tuesdays game against Golden State. He will continue to be evaluated on a day-to-day basis. Shannon Brown has seen a boost in playing time in Bryant's absence.
Analysis: As the report notes, this comes as somewhat of a surprise considering that Bryant participated fully in Mondays practice. At Tuesday mornings shootaround, however, the team was disappointed with how Bryants left ankle responded to Mondays practice. Fantasy owners will now have a very tough decision for Week 17 (Feb. 15-21). The Lakers play just two games and it sounds like Kobe is not guaranteed to play in either one. Brown gets the biggest direct Fantasy boost in terms of playing time when Kobe is out, but he will be in a very tentative position in this two-game scoring period as a Kobe return would kill his limited appeal.
News: Lakers G Kobe Bryant (ankle) was able to practice Monday, according to the Los Angeles Times. He is expected to play Tuesday against the Warriors. Bryant has been playing with a broken finger and lower back pain, but sat out three games because of a sprained left ankle prior to the All-Star game. He did not play in Sunday's All-Star game either. This means that Shannon Brown's minutes will be reduced.
Analysis: This is the confirmation Fantasy owners have been waiting for prior to setting lineups for Fantasy Week 17 (Feb. 15-21). Kobe will have had 10 full days off to rest the injury and while there is still some level of soreness, he is a player who Fantasy owners everywhere will want to active as long as he is able to suit up. Brown had been filling in adequately in place of Kobe, but his playing time and production will return to being erratic with this news.
News: Lakers G Shannon Brown saw extended minutes in Kobe Bryant's absence and contributed 19 points in a 99-82 victory over Portland on Saturday. Brown played 38 minutes shooting 8 of 15 from the field while adding three rebounds and one assist.
Analysis: Depending if Kobe is healthy and can play on Monday against San Antonio, Brown could see extended minutes again. If Kobe does play, Brown will see his minutes decrease. Brown averages around 7.8 points per game this season and shows minimal Fantasy value. Fantasy owners need to pay attention to Kobe's injury before deciding if Brown can fit into their rotation.
News: Lakers PG Shannon Brown put up 13 points on Friday in a loss to Denver. Brown played 22 minutes and shot 6 for 12 from the field with a three. He added three assists and three rebounds.
Analysis: Brown must be getting excited about the dunk contest because he's scored in double figures in each of his last two games despite averaging just 7.5 PPG on the year. He's becoming a sharp little shooter for the Lakers as he's hit at least one three in three straight games. That said, Brown has minimal Fantasy value as long as Kobe Bryant is healthy, but Brown is worth keeping an eye on.
News: Lakers guard Shannon Brown is the Lakers' second-leading scorer off the bench with 7.6 points per game, trailing only Lamar Odom among reserves and even outscoring starting point guard Derek Fisher. He usually provides the Lakers with a burst of energy when he takes the court, with fans realizing a highlight-reel play could be just one fast break away. When Brown was told Monday night he had just set a career high with 22 points in the Lakers' 98-92 victory over Orlando, he didn't even know his previous career best. Brown came through with his biggest game on a night when Kobe Bryant's broken finger mangled his outside shot, limiting him to just 11 points in the Lakers' final home game before an eight-game road trip.
Analysis: Brown has minimal Fantasy value as long as Bryant is healthy, but Brown is worth keeping an eye on. If Bryant continues to struggle and Brown posts more games like his 22-point outing then Brown would be worth adding in deep formats.
News: Lakers G Shannon Brown scored a career-high 22 points to help Los Angeles defeat Orlando 98-92 on Monday. In 22 minutes of play, Brown was 8 of 12 from the field and had an important nine points in the fourth quarter. This marks the fourth time in eight games that Brown has scored in double figures.
Analysis: Shannon Brown plays minimal minutes and does generally not contribute in many statistical categories. With Kobe struggling with a broken finger, Brown could be picked up in the deepest of Fantasy leagues over the next few weeks.
News: Lakers G Shannon Brown scored 19 points and added four rebounds and three assists in a 95-77 victory over Milwaukee Sunday. Brown was of 8 of 12 from the field in 24 minutes of play. This was the highest point total for Brown all season.
Analysis: Shannon Brown plays minimal minutes and does generally not contribute in many statistical categories. With Kobe struggling with a broken finger, Brown could be picked up in the deepest of Fantasy leagues over the next few weeks.
News: The Los Angeles Lakers re-signed free agent reserve guard Shannon Brown. The team announced the deal early Wednesday, but terms were not released.
Analysis: The Lakers acquired Brown in February as part of a trade with the Charlotte Bobcats. He played in 18 regular season games for the Lakers and averaged 3.2 points and 1.1 rebounds in 7.6 minutes. Do not expect him to be a Fantasy factor in 2009-10.
News:Adam Morrison and Shannon Brown, the players acquired from the Charlotte Bobcats for Vladimir Radmanovic, were on the inactive list for the Lakers in Tuesday's game against the Thunder. It is unknown if they will play Wednesday against Utah.
Analysis: The Lakers might want to keep Morrison and Brown out against the Jazz and wait until the All-Star break to let them get further acclimated to the system. For now, keep Morrison and Brown out in all leagues until they get on the court and start playing. Even when active, the two have minimal Fantasy value at this time.
News: The Los Angeles Daily News reports that new Lakers Adam Morrison and Shannon Brown, who were traded from Charlotte for forward Vladimir Radmanovic, are expected to practice with their teammates Monday and be available to play in Tuesday's game against Oklahoma City.
Analysis: Morrison has minimal Fantasy value with the Lakers and will likely provide some shooting off the bench but little else. Brown has little Fantasy value and should not be owned at this time. Ignore both in this scoring period.
News: The Charlotte Bobcats sent struggling forward Adam Morrison and reserve Shannon Brown to the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday for forward Vladimir Radmanovic. The move is the third trade the Bobcats have made this season in a roster shakeup under first-year coach Larry Brown.
Analysis: Morrison will give the Lakers an outside shooting threat, while the 6-foot-10 Radmanovic gives the Bobcats more depth up front. This trade means very little from a Fantasy standpoint, though, as none of the players are recommended Fantasy options at the moment. Monitor their progress with their new team to see how they fit in.
News:The Sports Xchange notes that Bobcats G Shannon Brown would be sixth in the NBA in free-throw percentage (94.4 percent) but his 18 attempts don't reach the minimum after 16 games to qualify for league-wide rankings.
Analysis: Brown is a physical specimen who got sparse playing time in Cleveland and Chicago. If he gains a bigger role in Charlotte, he might have some Fantasy appeal in deeper leagues. For now, his appeal remains limited in Fantasy leagues and he should be left on the waiver wire.
News:The Sports Xchange notes that Shannon Brown slipped out of the rotation Friday against New Orleans, with Adam Morrison and Matt Carroll eating up the perimeter minutes off the bench. He did not play at all in the game.
News: Bobcats G Shannon Brown, who appeared in one of his team's first two games, played big minutes off the bench in the third Monday against the Pistons. He scored 16 points in 26 minutes, shooting 4-for-8 from the field. He also had one rebound and one assist.
Analysis: Brown is a physical specimen who got sparse playing time in Cleveland and Chicago. If he gains a bigger role in Charlotte, he might have some Fantasy appeal in deeper leagues. Continue to monitor how the Bobcats use him.
News:The Sports Xchange notes that Shannon Brown has an outside chance of making the Bobcats roster this preseason. The Bobcats signed Brown to a one-year deal for the NBA minimum this offseason.
Analysis: Brown has a football player's body, and could be that George Lynch-type player Larry Brown seems to need wherever he goes. He has played in 44 NBA games, averaging 4.3 points. He does not figure to get nearly enough playing time to matter in most Fantasy formats.
News: The Charlotte Bobcats signed Shannon Brown to a one-year deal for the NBA minimum this offseason. The six-foot-four Brown played in 21 games for Cleveland and Chicago last season and had two stints in the NBA Development League.
Analysis: Brown has played in 44 NBA games, averaging 4.3 points. He does not figure to get nearly enough playing time to matter in most Fantasy formats.
News: The Bulls recalled G Shannon Brown and F Cedric Simmons from the Iowa Energy of the D-League on Monday.
Analysis: Brown and Simmons played for the Cavaliers earlier this year. They don't figure to play a prominent role on their new team, so leave them on waivers in Fantasy.
News: The Bulls sent G Shannon Brown to the NBDL on Saturday.
Analysis: Brown has minimal Fantasy value at this time and should not be used in any league.
News: Bulls guard Shannon Brown saw some meaningful playing time in the first half of the loss to the Pistons on Sunday since Chris Duhon was unavailable. Brown played eight minutes and scored four points.
Analysis: Brown has minimal Fantasy value at this time and should not be used in any scoring formats unless he gets more playing action.
News: Newly acquired guard Shannon Brown was the only one of the four Bulls who didn't make his debut on Sunday against the Rockets. He stayed on the inactive list.
Analysis: Brown has minimal Fantasy value at this time and should not be used in any scoring formats unless he gets more playing action.
News: The Cavaliers acquired center Ben Wallace and forward Wally Szczerbiak in a three-way trade involving 11 players that was completed shortly before Thursday's deadline. The Cavaliers sent guard Larry Hughes, forwards Drew Gooden and Cedric Simmons, and guard Shannon Brown to Chicago for Wallace and forward Joe Smith. Cleveland acquired Szczerbiak and guard Delonte West from Seattle for forwards Ira Newble and Donyell Marshall. He also gets Chicago's second-round pick in 2009. The SuperSonics will also receive guard Adrian Griffin from the Bulls.
Analysis: What does this mean for Brown? It likely means more of the same in Chicago as in Cleveland for him. He has averaged 7.0 ppg and 1.2 rpg and 1.1 apg is not expected to be in a situation to change that while with the Bulls. Leave him on the waiver wire.
News: Cavaliers guard Shannon Brown, who was disappointed when Cleveland decided not to pick up his option for next season, was assigned to Rio Grande Valley of the NBA Developmental League on Friday.
Analysis: Brown has played in just 12 games - four starts - this season, averaging 7.9 points. The former first-round draft pick (No. 25 overall in 2006) has flashed some potential during his 1 1/2 seasons as a pro. He's just not in a position to help Fantasy owners right now.
News: Cavaliers G Shannon Brown got a rare start at small forward Tuesday against the Nets, replacing injured superstar LeBron James, and sparked the Cavaliers early with some hustle. He drove to the rim on a fast break, scored and took a hard foul, bringing James, wearing a light gray three-piece suit, to his feet courtside. Brown finished with a career-high 20 points and four assists.
Analysis: Brown had played hardly any this season after not winning over coach Mike Brown in the preseason. Tuesday's performance might aid his mission for minutes, even though he obviously won't continue to start at small forward. Keep an eye on him in Fantasy, but don't make a move for him on waivers just yet.
News:The Sports Xchange reports that because the Cavs didn't pick up the third-year option on G Shannon Brown's contract, his agent, Mark Bartelstein, suggested that he could be headed elsewhere soon. "For a variety of reasons, it's not been a good fit for Shannon," Bartelstein said. "He hasn't gotten much of an opportunity. He's a young guy who has to play. (Cavs GM Danny Ferry will) work with me to find the right situation for Shannon. Shannon has a great future, but probably not with the Cavs."
Analysis: Brown played in just 23 games last season because of a serious leg injury. The 6-foot-4 slasher figured to get more playing time this season, but the Cavs' signing of Sasha Pavlovic to a three-year contract and addition of rookie Demetris Nichols may have altered plans for Brown. Clearly, he isn't in a position to help your Fantasy team much. Leave him on the waiver wire until further notice.
News: Shannon Brown missed all five shots, made two turnovers and didn't score in six minutes of Cleveland's 92-74 season-opening loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night. After the game, the Cavs decided not to pick up their contract option for 2008-09 on Brown. "I really don't know how disappointed I am," Brown said after practice Thursday. "I really don't know what the future will bring. All I can do right now is play for now and see what happens."

News: PG Shannon Brown led the Cavs with 19 points in 21 minutes off the bench Friday. He made four of eight field goals and 11 of 14 free throws and had two rebounds, two assists and three turnovers.
Analysis: Brown will play a larger role for the Cavs this season, but probably not enough of one to merit draft consideration. Still, with the equally inexperienced Daniel Gibson expected to start at point, any growing pains could lead to more playing time for Brown. Consider him a deeper sleeper on draft day.
News: Cavaliers guard Shannon Brown said Wednesday he was involved in an altercation with a security guard at a downtown nightclub that started after he was escorted from the bar for wearing a hat. "I was involved in a situation a couple of days ago where I felt like I was assaulted," Brown said at the team's training facility. The Plain Dealer reported Thursday that he did, in fact, file assault charges in the incident.
Analysis: Brown played in just 23 games as a rookie with the Cavaliers last season because of a leg injury and averaged 3.2 points per game. He is expected to play a larger role this year for the defending Eastern Conference champions, but not a big enough role that he should be considered in most Fantasy drafts.

News: Cavs G Shannon Brown averaged just 3.2 ppg in 23 appearances during the 2006-07 regular season, his rookie year in the league.

He scored 14 points and dished out six assists in 28 minutes as the Thunderbirds defeated Arkansas 107-93 Friday. "I was still shooting and out there while the guys were running the offense. I was learning." He said he doesn't think it will be hard to catch up with the rest of his teammates. "I don't look at it that way," Shannon Brown said. "I'll go out there and play like I know how to play. Everything will fall where it should. Whatever happens, happens."
Analysis: Brown has no Fantasy value at this time.
News: Rookie guard Shannon Brown played less than a minute against the Clippers. It was his first appearance in a game in almost two months.
Analysis: Even when he was starting, Brown warranted little Fantasy attention because he wasn't seeing extended playing time. Ignore him in all leagues at this time.

News: Coach Mike Brown said rookie Shannon Brown will remain in the starting lineup. He was beaten off the dribble by Knicks guard Stephon Marbury at least twice early in the game Wednesday. Shannon Brown did score 10 points and had two steals.
Analysis: Coach Brown said his rookie guard has been so-so. "I think he's played fine for a rookie," he said. "He's going to take his bumps and bruises out there." Brown is starting, but only so the Cavs can keep their regular rotation off the bench. Consider him only in larger leagues if he continues to start.
News: Cavs G Shannon Brown started in place of the injured Larry Hughes Wednesday vs. New York. He logged just 13 minutes, though, finishing with 10 points.
Analysis: Brown started, but only so the Cavs could keep their regular rotation off the bench. Consider him only in larger leagues if he continues to start.
News: Larry Hughes and Zydrunas Ilgauskas each scored 14 points and Damon Jones added 12 to help the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 91-82 preseason victory over the Boston Celtics on Friday night. The Cavaliers were without LeBron James, who was given the night off by coach Mike Brown.
Analysis: Don't expect the Cavs to give LeBron much of a chance to hurt himself in the preaseason. He remains our consensus No. 1 overall choice in Fantasy Basketball and he should be drafted as such in any format. Ilgauskas remains a No. 1 Fantasy center in any league and Larry Hughes should once again be considered a nice No. 2 or 3 guard since he is at 100 percent health. Consider Damon Jones an option in leagues as a 3-point threat, but his scoring will have to become more steady for him to be a reliable every week starter. Donyell Marshall, Drew Gooden and Anderson Varejao all have aspects of their game that can be valuable to Fantsasy owners in deeper formats and can be considered decent picks in the lower rounds.
News: The Cleveland Cavaliers signed Brown, the 25th pick overall in the 2006 NBA Draft, to a two-year rookie contract. The club will also have options for the third and fourth year of the deal.
Analysis: Brown has a chance to start for the Cavaliers depending on what the Cavaliers decide to do with Flip Murray, who will be a free agent. Brown has the potential to start, which might make him an intriguing pick on Draft Day in Fantasy leagues if things break right.
