Rudy Gay opts in for 2014

(6/23/2014) Looks like $19.3 million to play in Sacramento next season was too much for Rudy Gay to pass up, as Yahoo Sports reports that the veteran forward has decided to opt in with the Kings for the coming year.

After getting traded by Toronto, Gay averaged 20.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game for 55 games with the Kings.

(4/13/2014) Kings forward Rudy Gay was ruled out for Sunday's contest against the Timberwolves because of a sore back, Cowbell Kingdom reports. Derrick Williams started in his place on Sunday.

After missing two consecutive games due to the ailment, Gay played 34 minutes on Saturday, but the team appear to be taking a cautious approach with the 27-year-old. Gay has only one game left to return from the injury, on Wednesday against the Suns.

(4/12/2014) Kings forward Rudy Gay looked a bit rusty in his return to the lineup Saturday against the Clippers, after missing two games with a back injury.  

Gay played 34 minutes in the game and shot just 6 of 18 from the field en route to 16 points. He added six rebounds, two assists and two steals, while turning the ball over twice in a 117-101 loss.

Gay was reinvigorated by a midseason trade to the Kings, and is putting together one of the best seasons of his career. In 54 games since the trade, Gay is averaging 20.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists, while shooting 48.7 percent from the field.

(4/11/2014) Kings forward Rudy Gay has missed the team's last two games due to a back injury, but is expected to make his return Saturday against the Clippers. According to KCTV Sacramento, Gay took part in practice Friday and will be in the lineup for Saturday's game.

Both Gay and Evans missed Tuesday's game as a result of their injuries, though neither was considered particularly serious, so it isn't a surprise to see them miss just the first half of the team's back-to-back set.

Coach Mike Malone ruled forward Reggie Evans out before gametime with a back injury, and told The Oklahoman that Rudy Gay is also unlikely to play as a result of a back injury. Gay is still a game-time decision as a result of the injury.

(4/7/2014) Rudy Gay isn't injured, but he could miss time due to the birth of his first child. The Sacramento Bee reported Monday that the Kings gave Gay their blessing to leave on short notice should he decide to. 

Gay dropped a monster line on the Mavericks Sunday, finishing with 32 points, six rebounds and eight assists in 44 minutes.

He also chipped in with eight rebounds, four assists and one block while logging 41 minutes of game action. He's averaging 17.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists over his last five games.

(3/22/2014) Kings forward Rudy Gay left Friday's loss to the Spurs early because of a stomach virus, CowbellKingdom.com reports.

Gay checked out of the game with 8:52 remaining in the fourth quarter and did not return. He finished with 14 points, five rebounds, three assists and two blocks while logging 32 minutes of game action. He's averaging 18.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists over his last five games.

Gay will get a day of rest before the team hosts Milwaukee on Sunday. His status is still up in the air for that game.

(3/16/2014) Kings forward Rudy Gay struggled with his shot against a tough Bulls defense Saturday, in a 94-87 loss.

Gay scored just 13 points in the game, his lowest total since early February. He shot 5 of 12 from the field and added five rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal in the loss.

Gay has struggled with his shot a bit in recent games, but is still averaging 19.4 points per game in the month of March.

(3/1/2014) Kings forward Rudy Gay reached the 30-point mark for the second time in his past three games on Friday, finishing with a game-high 32 points on 11 of 22 from the floor, including 1 of 4 from downtown, and a perfect 9 of 9 from the free throw line in his team's 126-122 loss to the Lakers.

Gay did all of his damage in 41 minutes of game action, also adding seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and one block. He is averaging 25.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.0 assists over his last five games.

Gay was the lone bright spot for the Kings, who suffered through a DeMarcus Cousins ejection as well as a 35.1 percent shooting performance as a team outside of the lead scorer. Gay also racked up six assists, three rebounds, two steals and one block in 34 minutes in the loss. He has averaged 20.1 points and 6.3 rebounds over 51 games played.

Gay scored only five points on 2 of 11 shooting from the field, including 0 of 2 from downtown, and 1 of 2 from the free throw line. It was his second lowest scoring output of the season. He also chipped in with four rebounds, four assists and one block while logging 32 minutes of game action in a 93-84 loss.

Gay has been held under 10 points just five times this season, including three times in his past nine appearances. He has averaged 16.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists over his last four games played.
