Kings' Malone: Rudy Gay could see some rest this week

(11/25/2014) Kings coach Michael Malone said Tuesday that small forward Rudy Gay could receive a few days of rest this week, the Sacramento Bee reports.

Gay has already been ruled out for Tuesday's game in New Orleans with right Achilles tendinitis, and the Kings travel to Houston Wednesday and San Antonio Friday. The Kings "remain hopful" that Gay will be able to play Friday, Yahoo! Sports reports. He has averagd 21.1 points on 44.9 percent shooting in 13 games.

Kings announce multi-year contract extension for Rudy Gay

(11/19/2014) The Kings announced Wednesday they signed forward Rudy Gay to a multi-year contract extension. Terms of the agreement were not officially released, but it's been reported Gay agreed to a three-year, $40 million contract extension.

"I am very excited to announce that Rudy Gay will be a part of the Kings for the long term," Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé said. "He is an immensely talented player who is critical to our team on and off the court, and he is a significant reason why things are changing in Sacramento. Players as talented as Rudy have their choice on where to play. He is committed to making the Kings great again and we are committed to his success. I am looking forward to seeing a sea of No. 8 jerseys filling the seats of the new arena."

Gay, who is in his ninth NBA season, is one of only 18 players in NBA history to amass at least 10,000 points, 3,400 rebounds, 1,200 assists and 800 steals before turning 29 years old, joining the likes of Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett.

"I feel blessed to be in this situation," Gay said. "I’m grateful for the confidence the Kings have shown in my abilities and appreciate the way Sacramento and its passionate fans have embraced me and my family from day one. (11/16/2014) The Kings and guard Rudy Gay have agreed on a three-year, $40 million contract extension, according to Yahoo!

Gay has one year left on his current contract, and is set to make $19.3 million next season. His extension won't kick in until the 2015-2016 season. There's also a player option for the 2017-2018 season. If Gay opts out of the deal, he would hit the market at age-31. The two sides have worked on a deal for a few days now, but reportedly reached the agreement Saturday. The team has yet to officially announce the extension. Gay is averaging 22.5 points per game.

(11/9/2014) Kings small forward Rudy Gay scored a team-high 23 points on 9 of 19 shooting while grabbing a season-high 10 rebounds in his team's 101-93 loss to the Thunder Sunday.

Gay was initially deemed questionable to play Sunday due to an illness but was upgraded to probable before tipoff. He responded by recording his first double-double of the season while also racking up six assists and two steals in 38 minutes. The loss ends a five-game winning streak, but the Kings will look to start another Tuesday against the Mavericks.

Gay scored eight points in 15 minutes Friday before exiting with the injury, which required X-rays Saturday. He has also dealt with an ankle issue this preseason.

(10/18/2014) Kings forward Rudy Gay suffered a left ankle injury during Friday's practice and will not play Saturday against the Maccabi Haifa, according to the Sacramento Bee. Gay is averaging 12.0 points per game through four exhibition games.

The Kings will open the regular season Oct. 29 at home against Golden State.

(10/6/2014) Kings forward Rudy Gay entered the 2013-14 season expecting to play stretch four for the Raptors, but he has a different role in mind this season. As he told the Sacramento Bee, Gay has shed some weight, and will focus more on his perimeter play.

"One of the emphasises coming into camp last year with Toronto was me playing the stretch four and putting on the weight was one of those things," Gay said. "It didn't turn out very well so I had to drop it. Now I feel like a guard again."

Gay was seemingly reinvigorated following his trade from Toronto to Sacramento last season, as he upped his shooting from 39 percent with the Raptors to 48 percent with the Kings. He averaged 20.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game following the trade.

(9/30/2014) Contract talks have between the Kings and forward Rudy Gay have been put on hold, according to Cowbell Kingdom on Monday. Both sides engaged in talks before the FIBA World Cup and have until June 30 to come up with a deal, or else he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

"I'm letting my management handle that," Gay said. "I'm not going to be getting involved until it's nearing the end or both sides feel as though that that needs to happen. Then I make a decision."

After missing two consecutive games due to the ailment, Gay played 34 minutes on Saturday, but the team appear to be taking a cautious approach with the 27-year-old. Gay has only one game left to return from the injury, on Wednesday against the Suns.

(4/12/2014) Kings forward Rudy Gay looked a bit rusty in his return to the lineup Saturday against the Clippers, after missing two games with a back injury.  

Gay played 34 minutes in the game and shot just 6 of 18 from the field en route to 16 points. He added six rebounds, two assists and two steals, while turning the ball over twice in a 117-101 loss.

Gay was reinvigorated by a midseason trade to the Kings, and is putting together one of the best seasons of his career. In 54 games since the trade, Gay is averaging 20.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists, while shooting 48.7 percent from the field.
