News: Portland interim coach Kaleb Canales told NBA.com prior to Tuesday's game that guard Nolan Smith and forwards Luke Babbitt and Craig Smith will be in the rotation moving forward. Smith missed both shots he took on Tuesday against Milwaukee. He did grab one rebound in his 10 minutes of action. The Trail Blazers would lose the game, 116-87.
Analysis: Smith is just depth on the frontcourt for Portland. Despite being included in the 10-man rotation now, Fantasy owners shouldn't get too excited. Leave Smith on waivers for now.
News: With F LaMarcus Aldridge suffering a sprained left ankle in Tuesday night's contest against the Wizards, Trail Blazers F Craig Smith could be in line to see a boost in playing time in the short term. Smith, who has appeared in 24 games this season, finished with six points, while logging nine minutes in the 124-109 loss to Washington.
Analysis: Smith has been used sporadically off the bench of late, but that could change depending on how long Aldridge is out for. However, keep in mind coach Nate McMillan could also opt to use veteran Kurt Thomas, so owners will have to keep an eye on how things play out moving forward. While Smith likely won't supply any jaw-dropping numbers -- even if he does get a few starts -- owners looking for some cheap help at the forward spot may want to think about scooping him up if he gets some extra run. Stay tuned.
News: Trail Blazers F Craig Smith returned to the floor in Wednesday night's game against the Bobcats after missing the game on Tuesday against Utah. He played 14 minutes in the game, scoring six points on 3 of 4 shooting with three rebounds and two assists as the Blazers won 112-68.
Analysis: Smith is averaging 12.3 minutes per game for Portland and he is not a major offensive contributor. He has marginal Fantasy appeal when active.
News: Trail Blazers F Craig Smith went through pre-game workouts with assistant coaches on Wednesday and then told The Oregonian that he would be ready to play in that night's game against the Bobcats after missing Tuesday against the Jazz.
Analysis: Smith is averaging 12.3 minutes per game for Portland and he is not a major offensive contributor. He has marginal Fantasy appeal when active.
News:The Oregonian reports Blazers forward Craig Smith received some IV treatments Wednesday to help him deal with his illness. Coach Nate McMillan said Smith feels worse Wednesday than he did Tuesday and might sit out Wednesday against the Bobcats.
Analysis: Smith is averaging 12.3 minutes per game for Portland and he is not a major offensive contributor. He has marginal Fantasy appeal when active.
News: Portland PF Craig Smith, also known as the Rhino, missed practice on Tuesday due to a virus, reports the Oregonian. Smith's status for Wednesday's game against Charlotte is uncertain at this time. He is day to day.
Analysis: The Rhino only played eight minutes on Monday at Utah. He scored two points and grabbed two boards in that game. He's averaging just 14 minutes per game over his last five and that comes with 6.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and an assist. He has low-end Fantasy value at this time.
News: Trail Blazers F Craig Smith saw his role increase on Saturday with the injury to Marcus Camby, and he took advantage. Playing a season-high 16 minutes off the bench and scoring 11 points as the Trail Blazers lost 107-105 to the Rockets. He shot four-of-five from the floor and added three rebounds and three free throws in the game with a block, a steal, and an assist.
Analysis: The player dubbed "the Rhino" by ex-Timberwolves coach Kevin McHale has seen his production tail off since scoring a career-best 10.1 points per game in 2008-09 with Minnesota. He is scoring just 1.8 points per game so far this season, and while he will likely continue to see his minutes go up as long as Camby is out, he simply doesnt produce enough to be on the radar of Fantasy owners.
News: The Trail Blazers added free agent F Craig Smith, a signing designed to give them depth in the front court. The five-year veteran joins his third NBA team after a season in which he averaged career lows of 5.4 points and 2.4 rebounds in 48 games last season with the Clippers.
Analysis: The player dubbed "the Rhino" by ex-Timberwolves coach Kevin McHale has seen his production tail off since scoring a career-best 10.1 points per game in 2008-09 with Minnesota. Smith will likely be the third big-man off the bench for Portland, and has no Fantasy value. Ignore him on Draft Day.
News: The Clippers waived F Craig Smith on Friday. He averaged a career-low 5.4 points with 2.4 rebounds in 48 games last season.
Analysis: Smith averaged 10.1 points with his final year with the Timberwolves but has seen his scoring drop off each of the last two seasons. While he has some abilities, continue to ignore him in the majority of Fantasy leagues at this point.
News: Clippers forward Craig Smith played in his first game in more than a month and scored four points in Los Angeles' 98-87 loss to New Orleans on Wednesday night. Smith, who has not played since suffering a herniated disk in his lower back on Dec. 18, finished 2 for 3 from the field in five minutes.
Analysis: Smith missed 31 games with the painful injury, but Fantasy owners did not miss him. He is averaging only 5.8 points and 2.9 rebounds per game this season as he has been a marginal Fantasy contributor. He has scored in double figures only five times this season and should remain on waivers in all Fantasy formats.
News: Clippers PF Craig Smith was activated to play on Wednesday night against the New Orleans Hornets. Smith, who had not played since suffering a herniated disk in his lower back on Dec. 18, was able to practice on Monday and is now back for the Clippers.
Analysis: Smith missed 31 games with his injury, but has now returned for Los Angeles. Still, Smith has never been someone who makes a Fantasy impact. That will likely remain the case moving forward, so continue to ignore the 27-year-old heading into the second half of the season.
News: Clippers forward Craig Smith (back) was ruled inactive for Tuesday's contest against the Thunder. Smith, who has not played since suffering a herniated disk in his lower back on Dec. 18, was able to practice on Monday but the team decided to give him an extra few days. Smith is being considered day to day.
Analysis: Smith has missed 31 games with his injury, but appears just days away from making his return. Still, even he does return, Smith has never been a someone who usually makes a Fantasy impact. That will likely remain the case moving forward, so continue to ignore the 27-year-old heading into the second half of the season.
News: Clippers forward Craig Smith, who has not played since suffering a herniated disk in his lower back on Dec. 18, was able to practice on Monday and could play in Tuesday's contest at Oklahoma City, reports the Los Angeles Times. He practiced today and we should hopefully increase his minutes, said Clippers Coach Vinny Del Negro. I want to see how he feels tomorrow and get the report from [trainer Jasen Powell]."
18, has been cleared to return to practice, reports the Los Angeles Times. Although, because of the All-Star break approaching and the fact that the Clippers are currently on a 10-game road trip, that likely will not happen until next Monday. Smith is averaging 5.8 points and 2.9 boards per contest this year in 24 games.
Analysis: Smith has finally been cleared to get back on the court. The 27-year-old has been sidelined with a herniated disk which has now cost him 31 games on the year. Still, even he does return, Smith has never been a someone who usually makes a Fantasy impact. That will likely not change upon his return, so Smith can continued to be ignored in all formats heading into the second half of the season.
News: Clippers PF Craig Smith missed another game Wednesday in New York against the Knicks. Smith has not played since Dec. 18 due to a herniated disk in his lower back and nerve damage in his right leg. He is listed as day to day but the team has not said when he'll make his return to the floor.
Analysis: Smith has said he is feeling better and is closing in on a return but that was a few games ago now. Even when he does come back for the Clippers, Fantasy owners should not expect a player worthy of their consideration outside the deepest of leagues.
News: Clippers forward Craig Smith was again inactive for Tuesday's contest against the Magic. Smith has not played since Dec. 18 due to a herniated disk in his lower back and nerve damage in his right leg. He is listed as day to day.
Analysis: Smith said last week he feels like he is close to returning, so it may only be a matter of days before he finally gets back on the court. Still, even when he does, Smith doesn't see many minutes in the Clippers' rotation. He can be ignored in all Fantasy formats, even when he gets healthy.
News: Clippers forward Craig Smith has not played since Dec. 18 due to a herniated disk in his lower back and nerve damage in his right leg. Smith had said he feels like he's getting close to returning and hopes he doesn't need surgery. He's still being considered day-to-day.
Analysis: Smith is averaging 5.8 points and 2.9 boards per contest this year in 24 games. He provides frontcourt depth for the Clippers and could have a hard time finding minutes when he does return. Fantasy owners should avoid Smith in all formats.
News: Clippers PF Craig Smith (back) is visiting the doctor on Wednesday, reports the Los Angeles Times. Smith has not played since Dec. 18 due to a herniated disk in his lower back and nerve damage in his right leg. If the doctor gives him a green light, Smith could return shortly, if not, surgery is a possibility. "The way I'm feeling, I feel close," Smith said on Monday. "Hopefully, no surgery. I don't wish that on anybody."
Analysis: Smith has played in 24 games this year, averaging 5.8 points and 2.9 boards per contest. He'll give the Clippers some more depth in the frontcourt, but most likely won't be a major Fantasy contributor. With season averages of 5.8 points and 2.9 rebounds, Smith is a player who can be avoided in most leagues, even when healthy.
News: Clippers forward Craig Smith was ruled inactive for Monday's game against the Bucks as he continues to deal with a back injury. Smith has now missed 19 straight games with his injury.
Analysis: Smith has played in 24 games this year, averaging 5.8 points and 2.9 boards per contest. He'll give the Clippers some more depth on the frontcourt, but most likely won't be a major Fantasy contributor. With season averages of 5.8 points and 2.9 rebounds, Smith is a player who can be avoided in most leagues, even when healthy.
News: Clippers forward Craig Smith missed another game on Wednesday as he continues to deal with a back injury. He was expecting to come back on Tuesday, but is still be considered day-to-day.
Analysis: Smith has played in 24 games this year, averaging 5.8 points and 2.9 boards per contest. He'll give the Clippers some more depth on the frontcourt and may spell Blake Griffin some to make sure he stays healthy all year. But until he returns to action, Smith won't do Fantasy owners much good. Continue to ignore him in the majority of Fantasy leagues.
News: Clippers PF Craig Smith remained out of commission on Tuesday against Dallas. Smith was expected to have returned from a back injury already but remains out for the Clippers. He is day to day.
Analysis: Smith could be useful to the Clippers, but we doubt he's going to find much Fantasy value unless something happens to Blake Griffin. He can remain on waivers in just about all Fantasy leagues, even when he returns.
News:The Sports Xchange notes that Clippers PF Craig Smith (herniated disc in back) told the L.A.Times that he is feeling much better since his epidural on December 21, 2010. "It freed up the swelling. It got rid of the pain. My body is feeling real good," Smith said. Smith has been out of action since December 18 with a herniated disc in his back, and his return will help the Clippers wear down opposing teams down low off of the bench.
Analysis: Smith averages 5.8 points and 2.9 rebounds over 14 minutes per game this season. He has played in 24 contests and has no real Fantasy value at this time, healthy or not. Continue to leave him off Fantasy rosters until further notice.
News: The Los Angeles Times reports that Clippers F Craig Smith has been diagnosed with a herniated disk in his back. He will miss at least the next two weeks as a result.
Analysis: Smith averages 5.8 points and 2.9 rebounds over 14 minutes per game. He has played in 24 contests and has no real Fantasy value at this time, healthy or not. Continue to leave him off Fantasy rosters until further notice.
News: Clippers PF Craig Smith missed Monday's game against Minnesota with a back injury, reports NBA.com. Smith is considered day to day by coach Vinny Del Negro.
Analysis: Smith averages 5.8 points and 2.9 rebounds over 14 minutes per game. He has played in 24 contests and has no real Fantasy value at this time, healthy or not.
News: Clippers forward Craig Smith played 21 minutes on Saturday, the most he's seen in the month of December. He made the most of it by pouring in 13 points on 5 of 7 shooting. Smith added a season-high (tied) six rebounds and two steals while dishing out two assists.
Analysis: Smith played more minutes than usual on Saturday, so don't be fooled by the production. The Clippers have not quite figured out how to combat the second loss of Chris Kaman (ankle) and they will likely continue platooning big men in and out of the lineup. Continue to ignore Smith in Fantasy play unless Kama's ankle is worse than originally thought.
News: Clippers forward Craig Smith was ejected in Sunday's game against the Blazers after picking up his his second technical foul of the game. Smith tried to go after Rudy Fernandez in the fourth quarter after the few exchanged words. He had to restrained by Marcus Camby and was given the boot with 8:17 left in the fourth quarter. Smith finished with just two rebounds in the contest but failed to score.
Analysis: Smith is no more than a role player for the Clippers whose main job is to rebound and block shots in the paint. He is only averaging around 15 minutes a game this season, which makes it difficult for him to put up stats on a nightly basis. While we don't anticipate any disciplinary action by the league, you can never be too sure when it comes to the NBA's league office. Fantasy owners should continue to monitor the situation moving forward. However, Smith doesn't have much Fantasy value at this point of the season anyway.
News: Clippers forward Craig Smith registered double-digits in points for the first time since Nov. 12. He scored 11 points on a 4-for-7 shooting performance and by knocking down all three of his foul shots. He logged 18 minutes of action against the Kings, but battle foul trouble as he finished the game with five. He added three rebounds, one block and one assist.
Analysis: Smith is no more than a role player for the Clippers. He's getting more playing time with Chris Kaman out of commission, but he's expected back in a week or so. Fantasy owners can ignore Smith until he finds a niche in the rotation. Monitor him while he's getting minutes though, as he may be worth adding in deeper leagues later in the season.
News: Los Angeles forward Craig Smith shot 2 for 5 from the field on Thursday against Indiana. He finished with four point, one block and four rebounds in his 13 minutes of action. This continues his lackluster contributions off the bench as he's scored a total of 11 points over his last three games.
Analysis: Smith had back-to-back games of 15 and 14 points respectively, but he has played inconsistently all season. He's scored in double figures three times and has been getting more minutes with Chris Kaman injured for the Clippers. Until he carves more consistent minutes he should be viewed as an option in the deeper Fantasy leagues. He has potential and can be monitored for now, and could prove to be a nice pick up later in the season.
News: Clippers F Craig Smith played 17 minutes off the bench in Wednesday's game at the Spurs, but he finished with 15 points by going 6 for 6 from the field and 3 for 5 from the foul line. He added four rebounds and two assists.
Analysis: Smith had scored a combined 10 points in his previous two games. He did have an 18-point effort on Nov. 5, however, and has a chance to play a more prominent offensive role up front with Chris Kaman sidelined for a few weeks due to injury. However, playing just 17-20 minutes per game will likely lead to inconsistent results. Leave him for deeper leagues for now, but he's worth monitoring while this situation develops.
News: The Clippers lost center Chris Kaman on Tuesday for what could be an extended absence. Kaman played just seven minutes in the game against the Hornets and the Clippers tried to plug the hole he left with DeAndre Jordan, Craig Smith, Blake Griffin and Al-Farouq Aminu. Smith didn't really get any extra minutes, however, netting just 22 in the game. He scored eight points on 3 of 5 shooting with four rebounds and four turnovers.
Analysis: Smith shot 8 for 9 on Nov. 5 at Denver and scored 18 points. His best total in the four games surrounding that performance was the eight points he put up Tuesday. Smith could see a slight boost if Kaman has to miss time but he's still barely worth using in the deepest of Fantasy leagues.
News: Clippers F Craig Smith (back) was able to play in Sunday's game against Dallas as expected. He played 11minutes off the bench and finished with four points and six rebounds.
Analysis: Smith is not in line for much playing time for the Clippers this season. Unless his role changes, he should not be owned in any Fantasy format.
News: The Clippers had to rule Randy Foye out for Sunday's game against Dallas as Foye has a hamstring injury. Instead, the team activated Craig Smith, who should play against the Mavericks. Smith has been out with a back issue.
Analysis: Smith is not a player expected to see big minutes this season. Even with Foye being out Sunday, we don't expect much from him. Keep ignoring him in the majority of Fantasy leagues
News: Clippers F Craig Smith (back) was inactive for the second straight game on Friday night against the Warriors. He averaged nearly eight points per game during the preseason.
Analysis: Even when fully healthy, Smith is not a player expected to see big minutes this season. He should not be owned in most Fantasy leagues as a result.
News: Clippers F Craig Smith (back) was inactive for Wednesday's regular-season opener against the Trail Blazers. Smith practiced with the team prior to the game this week, but was limited to only non-contact drills.
Analysis: Even when fully healthy, Smith is not a player expected to see big minutes this season. He should not be owned in most Fantasy leagues as a result.
News: Clippers PF Craig Smith (back) practiced Monday but was limited to only non-contact drills. Smith is questionable to play in the season opener on Wednesday against Portland. He is considered day to day.
Analysis: The Clippers don't begin the regular season until Wednesday, so Smith may have time to recover before then. Even when healthy, he's unlikely to play enough minutes to factor in Fantasy. He should remain on waivers in most formats.
News: Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro told the Los Angeles Times Friday that PF Craig Smith "will be out a few days" with a back injury. Smith averaged 7.8 points and 3.7 rebounds in six preseason games.
Analysis: The Clippers don't begin the regular season until Wednesday, so Smith may have time to recover before then. Even when healthy, he's unlikely to play enough minutes to factor in Fantasy. He should remain on waivers in most formats.
News: Clippers forward Craig Smith logged 18 minutes of action on Saturday against the Jazz, but scored just six points. He hit both free-throw attempts and was 2 for 3 from the field. He made his presence felt on the defensive end as he recorded three blocks and grabbed three rebounds.
Analysis: Smith re-signed with the Clippers in the offseason and gives them some depth on the frontcourt. He averaged 7.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 16.4 minutes in 75 games last season, when he shot 57 percent from the floor. He will be a role player for the Clippers, which doesn't give him much Fantasy value. Consider him waiver wire fodder once the season begins.
News: The Los Angeles Clippers and free agent Craig Smith have reached a deal for the power forward to return to the team. He was originally acquired by the Clippers last July along with Sebastian Telfair and Mark Madsen from Minnesota in exchange for Quentin Richardson.
Analysis: Smith averaged 7.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 16.4 minutes in 75 games last season, when he shot 57 percent from the floor. Expect him to be a reserve player with limited playing time, making him barely useful in Fantasy.
News: Clippers F Craig Smith was back in the lineup Monday against the Mavericks after missing the two previous games with a back injury. Smith shot well from the field, scoring 15 points while adding three boards and two assists in 30 minutes. It was the first time in his last five games he has reached double figures.
Analysis: Smith is averaging just eight points during the month of April but with the Clippers depleted from injuries, Smith could see an increase in his minutes for the season finale against the Lakers. Even with increased minutes, Smith might not produce quality stats. Keep him reserved in all formats.
News: Clippes PF Craig Smith did not play in Saturday's game against the Warriors due to a sore lower back.
Analysis: Averaging only 7.6 points and 3.8 rebounds this season, Smith has little if any Fantasy value when healthy.
News: Clippers F Craig Smith scored six points in 14 minutes off the bench Sunday against the Knicks. He is averaging just 15 minutes per game in his last five contests.
Analysis: Smith will continue to see minimal playing time as long as Chris Kaman and Drew Gooden is healthy. He is not a viable Fantasy option for the final scoring period of the season.
News: Clippers F Craig Smith scored a season-high 25 points and added 10 rebounds in a win over the Rockets on Thursday. Smith shot 10 of 13 from the floor and added two steals, blocks and assists in 26 minutes. It was his first game in double figures since March 5.
Analysis: Smith is averaging 8.8 points over his last five games to go along with five rebounds. He is only seeing minimal minutes and is very inconsistent with his scoring. The 25-point performance was very rare for Smith, and he should only be used in the deepest of leagues at this point.
News: Clippers F Craig Smith (shoulder) scored 19 points in a loss to Oklahoma City on Friday. Smith shot 7 of 11 from the field while adding seven rebounds and block in just 22 minutes. It was the second time in his last three games that he score in double figures.
Analysis: Smith is averaging 12.3 points over his last three contests, but he sees minimal minutes behind Drew Gooden. Consider using Smith as a low-end Fantasy option in only the deepest of leagues.
News: Clippers F Craig Smith did not play against the Suns on Wednesday due to a sore left bicep tendon. He is considered day-to-day.
Analysis: Any potential Smith had to be a productive Fantasy option following the Marcus Camby trade evaporated once Drew Gooden came on board and became the starting power forward. Smith should remain out of Fantasy lineups until further notice.
News: Clippers F Craig Smith did not play in Monday's game against Utah. He underwent an MRI on a sore left bicep tendon and is considered day-to-day.
Analysis: Smith should be treated as day-to-day. Much of the potential he had to be a productive Fantasy option following the Marcus Camby trade went away when Drew Gooden came on board. Smith should remain out of Fantasy lineups until further notice.
News: Clippers F/C Drew Gooden had 20 points, 13 rebounds and four assists in Wednesday's game against Detroit. The Clippers used their 13th different starting lineup, with interim coach Kim Hughes giving Gooden his first start since joining them in a trade last week with Washington. DeAndre Jordan returned to the bench and had just six points with five rebounds in 15 minutes. Craig Smith, meanwhile, was limited to five minutes off the bench.
Analysis: This is nothing new for Gooden, who has the ability to put up games like this when given the minutes. He certainly did enough to buy himself more minutes with his performance Wednesday night and if he continues to see around 35 minutes per game he could be a real big asset to Fantasy owners down the stretch -- especially where he is eligible at center. Jordan and Smith will have to earn their time off the bench now and will be very erratic. The limited Fantasy boost both Jordan and Smith got when Marcus Camby left the Clippers takes a big hit with this development.
News: Clippers F/C Drew Gooden had a solid debut Monday against Charlotte, scoring 10 points with nine rebounds in 28 minutes off the bench. Gooden was acquired via trade from the Wizards after being dealt from Dallas to Washington last week. Craig Smith played 20 minutes off the bench and had seven points with seven rebounds while DeAndre Jordan, who started the game at power forward, played 17 minutes and had nine points with five rebounds.
Analysis: We could be looking at what this rotation could look like the rest of the way, making Gooden a viable starting option (especially where eligible at center) down the stretch. Meanwhile, Jordan and Smith will battle Gooden for playing time and touches. They each have upside, but may not have enough of a role to put up consistent numbers. That makes them mainly waiver wire options to be used as stopgaps rather than regular starters.
News: The Los Angeles Times reports Clippers forward Drew Gooden might play Monday night against Charlotte. Coach Kim Hughes said Gooden told him he wasn't ready to play Saturday against the Kings, but Gooden said Sunday that his coach "wanted me to get a practice in. . . . I haven't played in two weeks. I just wanted to get the body back broken in before I step out there."
Analysis: Gooden is expected to make his Clippers debut against the Bobcats and could play a significant number of minutes, Hughes said. Gooden will battle DeAndre Jordan and Craig Smith for the starting power forward position. Let Gooden get some game action in before deciding if he's ready to insert into your lineup. He could be worth adding in all leagues since the Clippers could use him to help replace Marcus Camby, who was traded to Portland. With Gooden expected to play, Jordan and Smith will see their Fantasy value take a hit.
News: Clippers F/C Craig Smith had nine points and seven rebounds in 19 minutes of action Saturday against the Kings. He is averaging 11.6 points and 5.4 rebounds over his last five games. DeAndre Jordan played 28 minutes off the bench, but contributed only four points and eight rebounds, shooting 2 for 7 from the field.
Analysis: Smith, along with DeAndre Jordan, is getting a chance to step up in the absence of Marcus Camby after he was traded away at the deadline. Smith has had a tad more success than Jordan recently and has been the better offensive player. He was in foul trouble Saturday with five fouls and that led to a decrease in minutes. Both players have value as fill-in centers in standard Fantasy formats where they are eligible at the position.
News: The Trail Blazers and Clippers have completed a trade sending Marcus Camby to Portland for Steve Blake, Travis Outlaw and cash considerations, sources told CBSSports.com's Ken Berger. The deal, which fills the void left by season-ending injuries to centers Greg Oden and Joel Pryzbilla, received league approval Tuesday afternoon. This deal likely leaves Craig Smith as the starting power forward for the Clippers going forward.
Analysis: Smith scored at least 13 points in three of four games heading into the All-Star break, and that was getting no more than 18 minutes in those games. He will likely see a boost in playing time and touches and is a real sleeper off the waiver wire for a big second half.
News: Clippers PF Craig Smith managed 13 points and seven rebounds in only 18 minutes Tuesday as Los Angeles fell to the Jazz.
Analysis: Smith has played less than 20 minutes in each of his last four games as he continues to spell Chris Kaman and Marcus Camby. Smith is only worth stashing away in the deepest of leagues.
News: Clippers PF Craig Smith scored 13 points in 15 minutes against Atlanta on Wednesday. He shot 3 of 6 from the field, plucked two rebounds and blocked one shot.
Analysis: Smith has turned around his season after seeing his minutes double in January. He went from averaging 3.7 points in December to 11.9 in January, and shows no sign of slowing down in February. He's scored in double figures nine times in his last 17 games. That said, 11 points and four rebounds a game still only gives him value in deeper Fantasy leagues.
News: Clippers PF Craig Smith came off the bench to score 13 points on Monday in a loss to the Celtics. Smith shot 3 for 6 from the field and 7 for 10 from the line. Smith added five boards.
Analysis: Smith is giving Fantasy owners 13 PPG over his last five games. That comes with 5.2 rebounds and solid shooting percentages. Smith has shown the ability to score and that gives him value in the deeper Fantasy leagues.
News: Clippers F Craig Smith scored 21 points, leading all Los Angeles scorers, as the Clippers fell 105-85 to Denver on Thursday. In 28 minutes of play, Smith shot 9 of 14 from the field adding six rebounds.
Analysis: January has been Smith's best month with five games scoring in double figures. However, Smith is very inconsistent and does not put up the type of Fantasy stats that will make owners happy. He provides only minimal value in the deepest of Fantasy leagues.
News: Clippers PF Craig Smith scored 17 points on Friday at the Lakers in a crushing defeat. Smith shot 5 for 11 from the field and 7 for 10 from the free-throw line. He added five rebounds and a block.
Analysis: Smith has only scored in double figures twice since November and doesn't contribute an overwhelming number of rebounds or blocked shots, either. He has just low-end Fantasy appeal in the deepest of leagues.
News: Clippers F Craig Smith was able to play on Wednesday against the Thunder after leaving Monday's game with a cut on his right eye. He scored six points, grabbed two rebounds and added an assist.
Analysis: Smith scored 18 points two games ago but has scored only 10 in his previous two. Smith gets limited playing time and should only be considered a low-end Fantasy option.
News: Clippers reserve PF Craig Smith had to leave in the fourth quarter Monday against the Hornets with a cut on his right eye caused by Hilton Armstrong. He finished with four points, three rebounds and two steals in 12 minutes.
Analysis: Smith scored 18 points in his last game Saturday, but he's usually a modest contributor off the bench. Regardless of this injury, he should remain on waivers in Fantasy because of his limited playing time.
News: Clippers PF Blake Griffin has a broken left kneecap that could sideline the No. 1 overall draft pick for six weeks. The Clippers confirmed Griffin's stress fracture late Monday night. Griffin won't be in the Clippers' lineup when they face the Lakers in their opener Tuesday night, and the former Oklahoma star could be out much longer. Expect Chris Kaman to see more touches in the meantime. DeAndre Jordan and Craig Smith should see a boost in playing time.
Analysis: It looked like Smith and Jordan would be a non-factor in Fantasy this season, but they could become worthy of a waiver wire pickup in larger formats if they get off to a good start. Griffin won't be back until at least the end of December, so there is time to get some use out of Jordan and/or Smith. Keep an eye on their progress.
News: Minnesota forward Mark Madsen was traded along with Sebastian Telfair and Craig Smith to the Los Angeles Clippers for Quentin Richardson. This is the third time Richardson has been traded this summer.
Analysis: Smith, despite being undersized at 6-foot-6, averaged 10.1 points in less than 20 minutes a game last season. With Kevin Love and Al Jefferson considered two building blocks, there simply was no room for him in the regular rotation. In L.A., he will head into a similar logjam of big men with Blake Griffin, Chris Kaman and Marcus Camby on the roster. He has the ability to turn into a solid Fantasy option, but not yet the role to be anything more than an occasional stopgap.
News: Minnesota PF Craig Smith returned to action on Tuesday night against the Clippers after missing four games with a calf injury. Smith scored 16 points and grabbed seven boards.
Analysis: Smith averages 10 points and four boards on the season. Although he's healthy again, he only has minimal Fantasy value. Do not use him in anything but the deeper Fantasy leagues.
News: The Pioneer Press reports Monday that Minnesota coach Kevin McHale said there's "a very good chance" for forward Craig Smith, who has missed the last four games because of a calf strain, to return Tuesday against the Clippers.
Analysis: This is good news that Smith will return, but he has minimal Fantasy value when healthy. The safe option in all leagues is to keep him reserved even if he does get back on the court.
News: The Pioneer Press reports Minnesota guard Randy Foye (hip) and forward Craig Smith (calf) missed their fourth consecutive games for the Wolves against Denver on Sunday, but coach Kevin McHale indicated Smith could return soon. Minnesota has three games this scoring period, starting Tuesday at the Clippers.
Analysis: Even if Smith does return this week he has minimal Fantasy value. For now, ignore him in all leagues.
News: Minnesota PF Craig Smith missed his fourth straight game on Sunday against the Nuggets. Smith is dealing with a strained calf and remains day to day. He is questionable for Tuesday's game at the Clippers.
Analysis: Smith is not a player worth using in the majority of Fantasy leagues in the first place, so his absence is not too big of a deal. He'll only have minimal Fantasy value when he returns and is an injury risk for the upcoming scoring period.
News: Minnesota PF Craig Smith missed his third straight game on Friday against the Jazz. Smith is dealing with a strained calf and remains day to day. He is questionable for Sunday's game against Denver.
Analysis: Smith is not a player worth using in the majority of Fantasy leagues in the first place, so his absence is not too big of a deal. He'll only have minimal Fantasy value when he returns.
News: Minnesota PF Craig Smith missed his second straight game on Tuesday against the Mavericks. Smith is dealing with a strained calf and remains day to day.
Analysis: Keep Smith reserved in all daily leagues. When healthy, Smith has minimal Fantasy value.
News: The Star-Tribune reports Minnesota forward Craig Smith remains questionable for Tuesday night's game against Dallas. Smith is still bothered by an injured calf that caused him to miss Sunday's victory over New Jersey. Smith's calf had been bothering him, coach Kevin McHale said, and then he hurt it again in the first half Friday at Cleveland and hasn't been able to run on it since then.
Analysis: Keep Smith reserved in all daily leagues. When healthy, Smith has minimal Fantasy value.
News: The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports Minnesota forward Craig Smith did not practice Monday after sitting out Sunday's 108-99 win over New Jersey. Coach Kevin McHale said Smith is questionable for Tuesday night's game against Dallas. Smith strained his calf in the first half of Friday night's game at Cleveland. "He's a tough kid," coach Kevin McHale said. "If you don't sit him down, he won't sit himself down. I asked him if it was still bothering him and he said yeah, and I said he's just going to get worse; he's not going to get better."
Analysis: Keep Smith reserved in all leagues. When healthy, he has minimal Fantasy value.
News: Guard Randy Foye and forward Craig Smith missed Minnesota's game against New Jersey while the Nets were without Bobby Simmons and Jarvis Hayes. Foye was out of Sunday's game with a hip injury that has bothered him for the last month.
Analysis: There is no word yet on the extent of the injury, but Fantasy owners should consider him a risky play for the upcoming scoring period. The Timberwolves play three games.
News: The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that Craig Smith has been ruled out for Sunday's game against New Jersey due to a calf injury. He is considered day to day.
Analysis: There is no word yet on the extent of the injury, but Fantasy owners should consider him a risky play for the upcoming scoring period. The Timberwolves play three games.
News: Minnesota coach Kevin McHale was clearly tinkering with his lineup on Wednesday as he started his bench players and had his starters come off the bench. Craig Smith was a starter on Wednesday at Philadelphia and he played 25 minutes scoring 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting. He added four rebounds.
Analysis: Smith has been scoring well of late and is averaging 15 points and seven rebounds per night over his last five games. Playing like this, Smith is definitely worth using in the deeper formats.
News: Timberwolves F Craig Smith had 19 points and seven rebounds in just 20 minutes off the bench Friday against Houston. He had scored just 18 points combined over his previous two games.
Analysis: Smith is averaging 13.2 points and 6.4 rebounds over his last five games despite a relatively limited role off the Timberwolves bench. He is getting just about 20 minutes per game and is finding ways to be productive enough to consider taking a flier on him as a stopgap in leagues of 12-plus teams. Just think what he could do with more minutes.
News: Minnesota PF Craig Smith shot for a very high percentage off the bench on Sunday against the Rockets. He went 9-of-11 in the game and scored 20 points.
Analysis: Smith has threatened to reach 20 points twice in his four games prior to Sunday but had failed to get there. He was not to be denied on Sunday. He is averaging 13.4 points per game over his last five games, throwing in a four-point performance in which he played only seven minutes. He remains just a low-end option however.
News: The Timberwolves fell to the Lakers on Sunday night but power forward Craig Smith was impressive in the game off the bench. Playing 18 minutes, Smith scored 19 points on a near perfect 9-of-10 from the field. He added three rebounds and a steal.
Analysis: Smith often doesn't score at all with Minnesota. His production will be slightly higher now that Al Jefferson is gone for the year but he's still very low-end and not worth using in most leagues. He's likely never to go 9-of-10 from the field again this year.
News: Minnesota PF Craig Smith shook off an injury to his ribs to play in the second half opener on Tuesday at Washington. Smith played 17 minutes and scored two points on 1-of-4 shooting. He added three steals, two assists and a rebound.
Analysis: Fantasy owners can look to him as a possible stopgap option in leagues where he is eligible at center when he is healthy and playing well but mostly Smith is just a low-end Fantasy forward best used in the deepest of leagues.
News: The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that Craig Smith, who missed five games because of a cracked rib suffered Feb. 3 at Indiana, practiced fully during a 100-minute workout Tuesday and is expected to play Tuesday night against the Wizards off the bench as much as his conditioning and his healing rib allowed.
Analysis: The report added that Smith said he still has "slight pain" that is far better than just eight days ago, when he was in too much pain to watch his team play a game at New Orleans. Fantasy owners can look to him as a possible stopgap option in leagues where he is eligible at center when he is healthy and playing well.
News: The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that Craig Smith's bruised ribs actually have a "small crack". The injury is likely to keep him out of the lineup for a couple of weeks, according to coach Kevin McHale after practice Friday. Kevin Love will continue to start in Smith's place.
Analysis: Smith is not the type of player worth hanging on to in situations like this where he is expected to miss an extended amount of time. Fantasy owners can look to him as a possible stopgap option in leagues where he is eligible at center when he is healthy and playing well.
News: Minnesota starting power forward Craig Smith bruised his ribs in a victory over Indiana on Tuesday night and was unable to play against the Hawks Wednesday. Coach Kevin McHale said he will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis.
Analysis: Even without the injury, Smith has still been struggling. He has played 15 minutes or less the past three games and has minimal Fantasy value at this time.
News: Minnesota forward Craig Smith left Wednesday's game late in the first quarter against Indiana after he bruised his ribs in a collision with Pacers forward Troy Murphy and did not return, reports the Star-Tribune. "I don't know," coach Kevin McHale said when asked about Smith's condition. "He's dinged up pretty good." Smith played 11 minutes and scored 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting.
Analysis: Even with the injury, Smith has still been struggling. He has played 15 minutes or less the past three games and has minimal Fantasy value at this time. Don't plan on using Smith even if he's able to play against the Hawks.
News: The Timberwolves keep starting PF Craig Smith, they just don't leave him in there very long. On Tuesday night against the Pacers, Smith played just 11 minutes and scored 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting.
Analysis: Smith is not a good rebounder for a power forward and his minimal amount of points and minutes makes him not really worth owning in most leagues right now.
News: Timberwolves F Craig Smith had four points with three rebounds and two assists in Sunday's game against Chicago. He had scored 15 or more points in three of his previous four games.
Analysis: Smith has upside as a scorer and rebounder, but the consistency is just not there and Fantasy owners will need to continue to view him as nothing more than a stopgap option for deeper formats. He has now been held under 10 points in two of his last three games and has seen under 20 minutes in the same amount of games.
News: Minnesota PF Craig Smith played 21 minutes on Tuesday in a win over the Grizzlies and dropped 15 points, easily his best game in a while. He shot 7-of-8 from the floor and was unstoppable at times against the smaller Memphis team. He added three rebounds and a block.
Analysis: Despite the big game on Tuesday, Smith is still averaging just 5.4 points and 2.8 boards per game over his last five. Those numbers are below his season averages and he's getting just about 17 minutes per night. You can pretty much ignore him in all but the deepest Fantasy formats.
News: Minnesota PF Craig Smith scored just two points in 12 minutes in Saturday's loss to the Magic. Smith added zero rebounds and was basically non-existent in the game.
Analysis: Smith is averaging 9.6 points per game over his last five and his drop in minutes on Saturday is a little alarming. Still, the big man is not rebounding like one and not blocking shots and should not be owned in too many Fantasy leagues at this time.
News: Timberwolves F Craig Smith had 18 points in Sunday's game against the Lakers and has scored at least 12 points in four straight games.
Analysis: Smith is averaging 12.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists over his last five contests and is becoming an intriguing pickup off the waiver wire. He can be useful for leagues of 12-plus teams as a possible stopgap option.
News: In Kevin McHale's first game as Timberwolves head coach, forward Craig Smith got to start Tuesday against the Jazz. He finished with 15 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals in 26 minutes of play.
Analysis: For some reason, Smith played minimal minutes off the bench under the previous regime, but he always seemed to play well when he got significant time. The Timberwolves have several inside men who can score and rebound, so Smith remains a low-end Fantasy forward even if he continues to start.
News: Timberwolves F Craig Smith scored 12 points in Friday's loss at New Jersey. He had been held to four points or less in his previous three games since scoring 23 points at Oklahoma City on Nov. 28.
Analysis: Smith has the upside of a player who can put together performances like the 23-point, 8-rebound game he had against the Thunder. Unfortunately, he does not have the guaranteed playing time. Fantasy owners should look to stash him in larger leagues, but keep him benched for now.
News: Minnesota PF Craig Smith scored a season-high 21 points and matched a career best with five assists in Wednesday's win over the 76ers. The burly Smith harkened back to his days on the California blacktop when he crossed over Reggie Evans at the top of the key and got to the basket to draw a foul. His free throw capped a 9-2 run that helped Minnesota take a 76-65 lead into the fourth.
Analysis: Smith scored one point and grabbed four rebounds in his previous outing and is averaging under eight points per game this season to go with about three boards. Don't rush out and pick him up off waivers until he has a few more nights comparable to Wednesday.
News: The Timberwolves will play three games in Fantasy Week 1 (Oct. 27-Nov. 2). They'll play Sacramento on Oct. 29, Dallas on Nov. 1 and at Oklahoma City Nov. 2. The Kings allowed 104.8 ppg last season. The Mavericks allowed just 95.6 ppg and Oklahoma City/Seattle allowed 106.3 ppg.
Analysis: Off the bench, Rashad McCants will play a sixth man role and can be useful as a No. 4 guard option in deeper formats. Ryan Gomes looks like he will lose a lot of minutes with Kevin Love in the mix and should be reserved for now. Corey Brewer will be starting at small forward, but he will not be a recommended Fantasy option this week. Craig Smith, Rodney Carney and Kirk Snyder are wait-and-see options that should not be active this week.
News: Minnesota PF Craig Smith played 21 minutes against the Bulls on Tuesday in preseason action. Smith scored 10 points on 5-of-11 shooting with seven rebounds.
Analysis: At 6-foot-8, Smith is slightly short for a power forward, but his powerful 250-pound frame has made him an effective presence in the low post off the bench. The former second-round pick averaged 9.4 points and 4.6 rebounds a game last year for the Timberwolves, his third season in the league. He scored a career-high 36 points against the Wizards in December. He'll battle with Ryan Gomes for backup minutes, but is a player worth taking a flier on.
News: Minnesota PF Craig Smith sat out Friday's exhibition against the Nuggest with a sore right knee.
Monitor his progress in the preseason.
News: The Timberwolves signed restricted free agent Craig Smith to a two-year deal on Thursday that runs through the 2009-10 season. "We like Craig a great deal. I didn't see any reason not to try to really re-sign him," Kevin McHale said in a teleconference from Las Vegas, where the Wolves have a summer league team. "There was an opportunity possibly to go out and chase other free agents, but it didn't make any sense to me. Our young guys, I like a great deal."
Monitor his progress in the preseason.
News: The Minnesota Timberwolves extended qualifying offers to restricted free agents Ryan Gomes, Craig Smith and Chris Richard on Monday and chose to let Sebastian Telfair and Kirk Snyder become unrestricted free agents.
Analysis: The moves were a formality the team had to go through with the start of the free agent bidding period beginning on Tuesday. By qualifying Gomes, Smith and Richard, the Wolves retained their right of first refusal for all three players. That means they will have the option of matching any offer the players get from another team. Smith was a second-round pick two years ago who has become a reliable offensive forward off the bench. The undersized power averaged 9.4 points and 4.6 rebounds last season. He'll battle with Ryan Gomes for minutes, but is a player worth taking a flier on. Monitor his progress in the preseason.
News: Timberwolves F Craig Smith averaged two more points per game in his second NBA season than he did as a rookie. He averaged a career-high 9.4 points in 77 appearances. He started 11 games and averaged 13.3 points, 5.7 rebounds as a starting power forward.
Analysis: Smith is a player that can contribute when given playing time, but that's something he'll have to fight for in his third NBA season. He'll battle with Ryan Gomes for minutes, but is a player worth taking a flier on. Monitor his progress in the preseason.
News: Timberwolves F Craig Smith had 6 points and 6 rebounds Thursday against San Antonio. He logged 14 minutes off the bench.
Analysis: Smith is a talented forward, but isn't in a situation to contribute much from a Fantasy standpoint since Ryan Gomes is the starter and is playing well. Leave Smith on the waiver wire in Fantasy.
News: Timberwolves PF Craig Smith had 16 points and seven rebounds Friday against the Celtics, shooting 7-for-10 from the field. He has now scored in double figures in two of his last three games.
Analysis: Smith went seven straight games without scoring in double figures before this recent stretch, so he clearly doesn't have the kind of consistency you want in Fantasy. Leave him on waivers.
News: Timberwolves PF Craig Smith had 21 points and seven rebounds in 27 minutes off the bench Friday against the Clippers. He hadn't scored 20 points since he scored 30 on Dec. 15.
Analysis: Smith hadn't even scored in double figures in seven straight games. Unless he can put together a prolonged scoring streak, he should remain on waivers in Fantasy.
News: Timberwolves PF Craig Smith got knocked by Blazers PF LaMarcus Aldridge in the first half Wednesday and had to leave the court because he was bleeding. When he returned to the game, he had a bandage alongside his right eye. He finished with six points and six rebounds in 30 minutes.
Analysis: Smith has exploded for two 30-plus point games while spending some time in the starting lineup, but has otherwise been a below-average scorer. Consider him nothing more than a low-end Fantasy option.
News: Timberwolves PF Craig Smith scored 30 points and grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds Saturday at Milwaukee. He has now scored at least 30 points in two of his last four games.
Analysis: Unfortunately, Smith scored 11 points total in those other two games. Still, he'll continue to start at the power forward spot for as long as Theo Ratliff (knee) remains inactive, and his added playing time makes him worth an add in larger leagues. He should be a decent rebounder and, hopefully, a more consistent scorer.
News: In two games since breaking out for a career-high 36 points Tuesday at Washington, Timberwolves PF Craig Smith has scored a combined 11 points in his next two games. He scored three points with two rebounds and a block Friday vs. Seattle.
Analysis: Smith played just 20 minute Friday and was mostly ineffective. Still, he'll continue to start at the power forward spot for as long as Theo Ratliff (knee) remains inactive. Ratliff is going in for exploratory surgery Tuesday and should be out at least another week and most likely more. Smith allows Al Jefferson to move from power forward to center and his added playing time makes him worth an add in larger leagues. He should be a decent rebounder.
News: Timberwolves PF Craig Smith scored a career-high 36 points Tuesday at Washington, shooting 14-of-22 from the floor. He also pulled down eight rebounds. He had recently begun to start for Minnesota. "Ever since they put me in the position to start, I just come out and try to be aggressive," Smith said, adding that he jammed his left wrist but expects to be OK.
Analysis: Smith has averaged 24.0 points and 8.3 rebounds in his last three games. Clearly, if he keeps this pace going, he deserves a look in Fantasy. We might even consider grabbing him now, considering the second-year player out of Boston College has a decent amount of upside.
News: Timberwolves PF Craig Smith scored 20 points with nine rebounds off the bench in Thursday's loss at Atlanta.
Analysis: Smith took most of Ryan Gomes' minutes because he was the hot hand. He's played well of late and is worth a flier in extremely deep leagues, but his appeal remains limited.
News: Timberwolves PF Craig Smith, who missed Wednesday's game because of a sprained ankle, returned to action Friday against the Wizards. He had six points and four rebounds in 11 minutes.
Analysis: Smith has been a nice producer off the bench this season for Minnesota, having scored double digits in three of his six games. However, he is merely a low-end Fantasy forward in deeper leagues when healthy.
News: Timberwolves PF Craig Smith (ankle) did not return to action Wednesday against the Kings. It was the first game he missed since leaving Saturday's game against the Kings.
Analysis: Smith has been a nice producer off the bench this season for Minnesota, having scored double digits in three of his five games. However, he is merely a low-end Fantasy forward in deeper leagues when healthy.

News: Juwan Howard and Craig Smith will have some more competition at the PF position in Minnesota with the addition of Wayne Simien via trade on Wednesday from the Miami Heat.
Analysis: With Mark Blount gone, Al Jefferson could play some center as well as PF, which means Howard, Smith and Simien will battle for significant minutes at the PF spot. With the T-Wolves focused on developing young talent, Smith and Simien appear likely to get the bulk of the playing time with Howard on the outside looking in. Do not draft Howard in any format at this time, while still consider Smith a late-round sleeper.
News: Timberwolves PF Craig Smith scored 20 points -- half on free throws -- and had seven rebounds in 34 minutes off the bench Friday at Indiana. He also had three assists. The second-year man out of Boston College has now scored at least 12 points in his last three preseason games.
Analysis: The time has come to begin thinking of Smith as a sleeper in Fantasy. With Kevin Garnett gone and Al Jefferson seeing minutes at center, Smith could get a decent amount of playing time. Take a flier on him in the late rounds of Fantasy drafts if you need help at power forward.
News: Timberwolves PF Craig Smith scored 14 points and had six rebounds -- five on the offensive end -- Tuesday at Atlanta. He started and played 21 minutes.
Analysis: With Kevin Garnett gone and Al Jefferson seeing minutes at center, Smith could get a decent amount of playing times. Consider him somewhat of a sleeper in deeper Fantasy leagues, but he should go undrafted in most cases.
News: Minnesota forward Craig Smith scored 15 points against the Knicks, the eighth time in his last 12 appearances that he has reached double figures. He has grabbed 21 rebounds in his last three games, across 77 minutes. Smith averaged 9.6 points in March after slumping to 4.5 per game in February.
Analysis: Smith should be considered a low-end Fantasy option at this time. He's starting to play well and might be a useful Fantasy player in the future.
News: Forward Craig Smith scored 14 of his 16 points in the second quarter against the Jazz Wednesday. He has reached double-figures in scoring in six of his last seven appearances.
Analysis: Smith remains a low-end option, but is worth a gamble in larger leagues at this time.
News: Wolves rookie forward Craig Smith entered Tuesday's game averaging 18.3 points in three tries against Seattle this season -- his highest average against any team by six points. Smith finished Tuesday's game with 13 points and four rebounds.
Analysis: Smith should be used as a low-end Fantasy option. It's too bad he doesn't play Seattle any more times this season.
News: Wolves F Craig Smith is averaging 6.2 ppg and 4.5 rpg heading into the All-Star break.
Analysis: Smith has been a decent rebounder, but just doesn't see enough playing time to contribute on a regular basis. Keep him in mind if he does start to see regular minutes.
News: Forward Craig Smith had been averaging 4.2 points in 13 January appearances when he exploded for 26 points in 23 minutes at Seattle Friday.
Analysis: It was Smith's first double-digit scoring night since Dec. 29, when he also faced the Sonics. And it marked the second time that the rookie from Boston College had scored more points than minutes played; he scored 20 against Denver in just 16 minutes on Nov. 3. Smith just doesn't do enough right now to use in Fantasy leagues at this time, but remember this the next time he faces the Sonics.
News: Timberwolves F Craig Smith had eight points and five rebounds in 18 minutes on Monday against the Pistons.
Analysis: Smith just doesn't do enough right now to use in Fantasy leagues at this time.

Analysis: Smith just doesn't see enough minutes to use in Fantasy leagues at this time outside of the deepest of leagues.
News: Forward Craig Smith notched the first double-double of his career -- and one of the few in Minnesota franchise history by a second-round pick -- when he got 12 points and 10 rebounds against the Cavaliers on Friday.
Analysis: Smith is certainly worth a look in leagues of 12-plus teams. He's been a bit of a surprise in the early going.
News: Forward Craig Smith is starting to get noticed -- and he's starting to notice that he's getting noticed. In Portland the other night, one day after getting 20 points off the bench in 16 minutes at Denver, Blazers center Jamaal Magloire nudged him while standing next to Smith on the free-throw lane. "Hey, big fella. How are you doing?" Magloire said. "Good game yesterday." Smith was surprised and pleased. "Crazy," he said. "Definitely gives you a boost of confidence."
Analysis: Smith is certainly worth a look in leagues of 12-plus teams, but don't get too excited just yet. He has to string together a few more solid games before we'd recommend him as a starter.
News: The Minnesota Timberwolves signed their second-round draft pick, forward Craig Smith. Smith, a 6-foot-7 standout at Boston College, was selected with the 36th overall choice this summer. He averaged 17.6 ppg and 9.4 rpg in 36 games for the Eagles, earning first team all-conference honors in the ACC. He finished as the school's all-time leading rebounder.
Analysis: Smith currently has no Fantasy value. Watch his progress through training camp to see if he makes a move up the depth chart. He could be a fantasy sleeper depending on his preseason workouts.
News: Smith, a second-round pick in the NBA Draft out of Boston College, has been unable to participate with Minnesota's summer league team due to a fractured hand suffered in the NCAA Tournament back in March, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
Analysis: Smith, an undersized power forward by NBA standards, is expected to compete for a roster spot during training camp. His hand injury is expected to be healed well before then.
