Fantasy impact of Chase Budinger's injury

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/2/2013) The Timberwolves promise to be one of the league's better offensive teams this season, but they will have to make do with a key piece early after losing Chase Budinger. That leaves an open spot in the starting lineup for one of Corey Brewer or Derrick Williams to battle for during training camp.

Given the Timberwolves' scoring heavy lineup construction, it makes the most sense for Brewer to get the starting nod. That doesn't mean Williams is going to be the odd-man out, especially since he can easily slide over to power forward to backup both spots.

From a Fantasy perspective, Williams is obviously the most attractive option of the two, despite being something of a disappointment since being the No. 2 overall pick in 2011. Williams averaged 12.0 points in just 24.6 minutes per game, and is likely looking at a slight uptick in minutes even if he ends up coming off the bench full time.

Neither Brewer nor Williams should be a Fantasy starter in this current configuration, but they both serve their purposes. Williams is worth hanging on to as a breakout candidate in the latter half of the draft, while Brewer is mostly just a late-round flier in category-based Fantasy formats on Draft Day.
