(10/10/2013) Timberwolves forward Corey Brewer started Wednesday's preseason game against the Raptors, the second time in a row he has done so. Brewer scored seven points on 3 of 6 shooting, with two assists and one steal in the game.

WIth Chase Budinger going down with a knee injury to start the season, Brewer apparently has the inside track for the starting small forward spot.

Fantasy impact of Chase Budinger's injury

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/2/2013) The Timberwolves promise to be one of the league's better offensive teams this season, but they will have to make do with a key piece early after losing Chase Budinger. That leaves an open spot in the starting lineup for one of Corey Brewer or Derrick Williams to battle for during training camp.

Given the Timberwolves' scoring heavy lineup construction, it makes the most sense for Brewer to get the starting nod. That doesn't mean Williams is going to be the odd-man out, especially since he can easily slide over to power forward to backup both spots.

From a Fantasy perspective, Williams is obviously the most attractive option of the two, despite being something of a disappointment since being the No. 2 overall pick in 2011. Williams averaged 12.0 points in just 24.6 minutes per game, and is likely looking at a slight uptick in minutes even if he ends up coming off the bench full time.

Neither Brewer nor Williams should be a Fantasy starter in this current configuration, but they both serve their purposes. Williams is worth hanging on to as a breakout candidate in the latter half of the draft, while Brewer is mostly just a late-round flier in category-based Fantasy formats on Draft Day.

Corey Brewer looks like the starter

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/28/2013) Timberwolves forward Corey Brewer likely has the inside track to start at small forward, after the team announced Friday that Chase Budinger likely needs knee surgery to repair cartilage damage.

Brewer signed a three-year, $14 million contract this offseason, after averaging 12.1 points per game last season with the Nuggets. He has not started more than 24 games in a season since 2009-10.

Brewer returns to Minnesota

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(7/12/2013) The Timberwolves will sign forward Corey Brewer to a three-year deal worth somewhere in the $15-million neighborhood, according to ESPN. Brewer spent his first three-and-a-half seasons in the league with Minnesota. He averaged 12.1 points and 2.9 rebounds while shooting 29.6 percent from beyond the arc.

Brewer could get his shot

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(4/5/2013) Nuggets forward Corey Brewer came up big Thursday against the Mavericks, and the Nuggets will likely need him to continue to do so down the stretch. Brewer scored 23 points on 7 of 17 shooting with two 3-pointers, in 35 minutes, in a 95-94 win. He added two rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block. Brewer was playing with the starters at the beginning of the second half, after Danilo Gallinari suffered a knee injury that could cost him the remainder of the season. If Gallinari is forced to miss time, Brewer could step into the starting lineup.
