Fernandez leaves the NBA


(7/21/2012) Nuggets guard Rudy Fernandez spent the summer in Spain recovering from back surgery, and he has decided to stay there for at least the next three years, signing a contract with Real Madrid. Terms of the deal have not been announced yet, though it is known that Real Madrid targeted him last offseason and offered a deal that would have made him the highest-paid player in Spain.

(5/21/2012) Nuggets guard Rudy Fernandez is spending the summer in Spain recovering from back surgery and, as he told TuBasket.com, a Spanish-language website that covers basketball in Spain, he may decide to stay there even when he heals up. Fernandez turned down a contract offer from Real Madrid last summer that would have made him the highest-paid player in Spain, however as a restricted free-agent this year, he plans on weighting all of his options.

(3/22/2012) The Nuggets official team website reports that guard Rudy Fernandez will require surgery on his lower back and is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season. Fernandez, 26, missed 12 games this season due to a lower back strain, and the injury recently flared up against Dallas on March 19, prompting further evaluation and more diagnostic testing. A date for the surgery has yet to be scheduled.
