Blazers targeting pass-happy big men

by Joe Polito | CBSSports.com
(7/1/2014) Free agent center Spencer Hawes will be sought after for his ability to stretch the floor and move the ball, and it appears Portland is his No. 1 fan. The Oregonian reports that Hawes is the Trail Blazers' top target in free agency.

The problem is Hawes reportedly wants a raise on his $6.5-million salary from last season, and the most Portland can offer is $5.3 million. If they can't work something out, the paper suggests the Trailblazers will shift their focus to other passing big men such as Josh McRoberts and Boris Diaw.

Hawes averaged 3.0 assists per game last season -- good for fourth among centers. He also ranked second at his position in three pointers made per game at 1.6 a night.
