Josh McRoberts agrees to join Heat

(7/7/2014) Free agent forward Josh McRoberts had been reportedly been deciding between the Miami Heat and the incumbent Charlotte Hornets, but ESPN reported Monday that a decision has been made. The report suggests McRoberts has "verbally committed" to joining the Heat.

McRoberts will likely take Miami's full mid-level exception. NBA Insider Ken Berger reports that the deal is worth $23 million over four years. He had a successful season playing point forward for Charlotte last year, averaging a career-high 4.3 assists per game.


Blazers targeting pass-happy big men

(7/1/2014) Free agent center Spencer Hawes will be sought after for his ability to stretch the floor and move the ball, and it appears Portland is his No. 1 fan. The Oregonian reports that Hawes is the Trail Blazers' top target in free agency.

The problem is Hawes reportedly wants a raise on his $6.5-million salary from last season, and the most Portland can offer is $5.3 million. If they can't work something out, the paper suggests the Trailblazers will shift their focus to other passing big men such as Josh McRoberts and Boris Diaw.

Hawes averaged 3.0 assists per game last season -- good for fourth among centers. He also ranked second at his position in three pointers made per game at 1.6 a night.

(6/18/2014) A source told the Charlotte Observer Wednesday that Hornets forward Josh McRoberts will opt out of his current deal, becoming an unrestricted free agent.

McRoberts had an impressive year playing point forward for Charlotte, finishing second among power forwards in assists per game at 4.3 -- just behind Kevin Love.

(4/28/2014) Bobcats forward Josh McRoberts collected a double-double on Monday, but it wasn't enough to avoid a sweep from Miami in the opening round of the playoffs.

McRoberts scored 10 points and grabbed 10 boards in a 109-98 Game 4 defeat. He shot 3 of 8 from the floor, 1 of 5 from downtown, and 3 of 4 from the free throw line. He also added five assists, one block and one steal while logging 42 minutes of game action.

McRoberts had just two double-doubles in the regular season. He finished the season with averages of 8.5 points and 4.8 rebounds in 78 games.

(4/10/2014) Bobcats forward Josh McRoberts was back in action Wednesday against the Wizards, after missing the team's previous three games with an ankle injury.

McRoberts played well in his return, scoring 12 points on 5 of 12 shooting, while filling the box score up in 34 minutes. He added two rebounds, two assists and two steals, while turning the ball over just once in the 94-88 overtime win.  

McRoberts has been a big part of the Bobcats' return to relevance this season, averaging a career-high 8.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game in 74 appearances.

He also contributed with seven rebounds, six assists, two blocks and one steal while logging 35 minutes of game action. He is averaging 12.2 points, 5.0 assists and 4.8 rebounds over his last five games.

McRoberts played 33 minutes in the win, scoring 14 points on 3 of 5 shooting. All three of his makes came from three-point range, and he added a 5 of 7 showing at the free-throw line. He also snagged 10 rebounds and three assists without a turnover in the win.

McRoberts is enjoying the finest season of his career, averaging 8.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game while appearing in 53 of the team's first 54 games.

McRoberts scored four points despite going 0 for 4, as he made 4 of 6 free-throw attempts. He did a solid job making up for his subpar shooting, however, with six rebounds and three assists, without a turnover.

McRoberts remains capable of posting some of the most unique stat lines in the league. He is averaging 7.7 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game on the season.

McRoberts went 2 of 8 shooting from the field and only 1 of 6 from beyond the arc on the night. He finished the game with five points, five rebounds and a season-high nine assists. He also added one block while logging 33 minutes of game action.

McRoberts has only scored in double figures twice over his last nine games. He is averaging 6.2 points, 5.6 assists and 4.0 rebounds over his last five games played.

McRoberts scored just four points on 2 of 8 shooting, including missed on all four of his 3-pointers. He made up for his poor scoring somewhat by adding 10 rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block in 33 minutes of action.

McRoberts is enjoying the fbest season of his career so far, as he is averaging 8.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game through the first 19 games.
