Heat's Josh McRoberts confirms he's out for year

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(4/4/2015) The Heat's Josh McRoberts accompanied the team on its road trip, but that doesn't mean he'll be taking the court.

McRoberts suffered a meiniscus tear on December 9 and has also battled back and toe problems this year. He's participating in shooting drills with the team, but he won't be playing again this year.

"I wouldn’t think so," McRoberts said, per the Miami Herald. "I would still think I’d be out for the year at this point."

McRoberts said his injury, and the surgery to repair it, was "totally different" from Kemba Walker's and Derrick Rose's, both of whom were able to return to the court this season.

"The day I got the surgery I was hoping to come back right away, but I’m just taking it a day at a time and trying to recover," he said. "They announced I was out for the season earlier in the year, so we’re still standing by that in terms of it would be tough to make a comeback because of how long the recovery is from surgery."

Heat forward Josh McRoberts begins traveling with team

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(3/22/2015) Heat forward Josh McRoberts has not attended any road games since undergoing knee surgery in December, but coach Erik Spoelstra said McRoberts will accompany the team on its four-game trip, which starts Sunday, reports the Sun Sentinel.

"He's progressing, but I wouldn't look too much into this trip," Spoelstra said, per the Palm Beach Post.

McRoberts has yet to start any on-court activities with coaches and instead has been working with the training staff to rehab his knee. He is expected to miss the rest of the season.

"I'm not thinking about him playing this year,"  Spoelstra said, per the team

Heat's Josh McRoberts has been doing rehab work on knee

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(3/11/2015) Heat coach Erik Spoelstra told reporters Wednesday forward Josh McRoberts has been able to do rehab work on his knee with the team's training staff, reports the Palm Beach Post.

McRoberts has been recovering from knee surgery since December and Spoelstra gave no indication that he would be able to return this season.

"Not even thinking about that," he said.

There is no timetable on when McRoberts could return to basketball activity.

Josh McRoberts off crutches, Heat still don't expect him back

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(2/21/2015) Heat center Josh McRoberts is off crutches, coach Erik Spoelstra told Ethan Skolnick of Bleacher Report.

Spoelstra joked that McRoberts could give the team eight minutes. McRoberts is recovering from late-December knee surgery and is still considered out for the season.

Heat's Pat Riley denies he had a package deal for Nets' Brook Lopez

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(1/23/2015) Heat president Pat Riley denied previous reports that Miami had offered forward Josh McRoberts in a package deal for Nets center Brook Lopez, according to the Miami Herald. According to a previous report from Yahoo! Sports, Miami offered McRoberts, Norris Cole and Chris Andersen for Lopez. Trade talks for Lopez died down, but could ramp back up leading up to the trade deadline.

"There's a lot of conversation but we're not active," Riley said. "I'm not going to move chairs. I've been in the chair-moving business before and that's all you do is move chairs around…

"If there is something that makes sense that can really help us, then we would consider it. But we're not about to give up assets that we don’t have, that we need, to make a lateral move out of desperation, to take what I think is a playoff team to make the playoffs. If it's a player to take us into the future, we'll think about it. It's fluid."

Heat officially declare Josh McRoberts out for the season

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(12/23/2014) After undergoing successful knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, the Heat announced forward Josh McRoberts is out for the remainder of the season.

The Heat signed McRoberts in the offseason to be the starting power forward, but he was only able to make four starts for the Heat this season.

To lessen the loss of McRoberts, the Heat applied for a $2.65 million disabled-player salary-cap exception, reports the Sun Sentinel. If the Heat are awarded the exception, they are expected to use it to potentially lure Josh Smith to Miami.

Injuries leave Heat reeling from frontcourt injuries

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/15/2014) The Heat's post-LeBron plans were based heavily on a frontcourt tandem of Chris Bosh and Josh McRoberts, the team's two biggest signings of the free agency period. However, with Chris Bosh dealing with a calf strain and Josh McRoberts set for season-ending knee surgery, those plans have gone awry, and Fantasy owners are left to sort through the pieces.

The Heat are used to playing without McRoberts, who was just ninth on the team in minutes played through the first 23 games of the season. However, Fantasy owners were starting to get excited about his return to health, since few big men can produce quite like McRoberts does. He was averaging 4.0 assists and 1.0 3-pointers per-36 minutes, but at least the Heat have an in-house option to replace him in the form of Shawne Williams. Williams averaged 12.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.6 3-pointers per game through the first 10, which McRoberts mostly missed with injuries.

Finding someone to replace Bosh will be a bigger test, though it is likely one the team won't have to deal with for too long. Bosh acknowledged his calf injury could cost him a few weeks Monday, though that seems like a worst-case scenario. For the time being, Justin Hamilton and Chris Andersen are likely to see larger roles, but neither warrants more than a cursory glance in deeper Fantasy leagues for the time being.

For Fantasy Week 8, you might want to slip Williams, Luol Deng and Mario Chalmers into your starting lineups, especially with Dwyane Wade fighting an illness. Long term, however, it remains to be seen just how the Heat will deal with these injuries.
