Byron Scott getting close to finalizing starting five

(9/10/2014) Lakers coach Byron Scott told the Los Angeles Daily News Wednesday he has penciled in four of the five spots for the team's starting lineup, with only the small forward spot left the fill.

Scott plans to start Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant, Carlos Boozer and Jordan Hill together this season, with Wesley Johnson or Nick Young being considered for the small forward spot. That means rookie Julius Randle and newly acquired guard Jeremy Lin will come off the bench, and he is leaning toward bring Nick Young off the bench as well.


Nick Young gets four years from the Lakers

(7/11/2014) The Lakers have agreed to a deal to keep guard Nick Young around, according to ESPN.com Friday.

Young put together a career-best season while working on a minimum-salary deal with the Lakers, and he will be rewarded handsomely for it. CBSSports.com NBA Insider Ken Berger reports the deal will pay Young $21.5 million over four years, with the fourth year a player option.

Young averaged 17.9 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game in 64 appearances for the Lakers last season. 


Nick Young turns down option, heading to free agency

(6/26/2014) Guard Nick Young informed the Lakers Tuesday he would be turning down his player option for the 2014-15 season, according to ESPN.com.

Young will become a restricted free agent coming off a career year. He averaged 17.9 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 64 games while serving mostly as a reserve for the Lakers, and was set to make just $1.2 million next season.

(4/15/2014) Lakers guard Nick Young helped his team snap a seven-game losing streak with a season-high 41-point effort Monday night against the Jazz.

Young made 14 of 23 shots, including 6 of 11 from behind the arc, and 7 of 9 from the free throw line. He also chipped in with three rebounds and three assists while logging 34 minutes of game action. He is averaging 26.0 points, 2.4 assists and 1.4 rebounds over his last five games played.

Nick Young shows no sign of knee injury

(4/9/2014) Lakers guard Nick Young was able to play through a minor knee injury Tuesday against the Rockets, and he didn't seem much bothered by it. He scored 32 points in 23 minutes off the bench, shooting 11 for 19 from the field with six 3-pointers made, and adding three assists in the 145-130 loss.

Young has been given free reign to shoot as often as he wants in the Lakers' offense, and has taken full advantage at every opportunity. He is averaging 17.5 points per game in 60 appearances, a career-high scoring average.

(4/6/2014) Lakers guard Nick Young suffered a knee injury during Sunday's loss to the Clippers, and was unable to return.

Making his return from an ankle injury, Young left the game after bumping his knees in the third quarter. However, head Mike D'Antoni expects him to be available for Tuesday's home game against Houston, the Los Angeles Times reports. The Lakers have only five games remaining this season.

"I'm going to go down with the ship," Young said.

(4/5/2014) Lakers guard Nick Young left Friday's game against Dallas due to a mild right ankle sprain, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

Young sustained the injury in the fourth quarter and was unable to return. He finished with 14 points and two rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench before the injury. Young told the paper he hopes to play but is unsure if he'll be able to Sunday against the Clippers.

(4/3/2014) Lakers guard Nick Young indicated that he'll opt out of his contract with the Lakers and become a free agent this summer, NBA.com reports. Although Young will want to test the market, he did express his interest in remaining in Los Angeles, his hometown.

"Most definitely I want to stay home," Young said. "With the changes I see, they're going to do some big things this summer. Of course I want to be a part of a championship program and get a chance to compete next year. But we're just going to see what happens. I've got to sit down with my agent and see what happens this summer."

(4/2/2014) Lakers guard Nick Young went off from the bench Tuesday, recording his second career 40-point game in a 124-112 loss to the Trail Blazers.  

Young played just 33 minutes in the game and took a shot in just about each of them. He scored his 40 points on 15 of 26 shooting, with six 3-pointers made. He added four rebounds, two steals and an assist in the loss.

Though injuries have cost him significant time, Young is arguably enjoying the most productive season of his career. He is averaging 17.3 points per game on 42.6 percent shooting from the field.

(3/22/2014) Lakers guard Nick Young (knee) made his return to the floor Friday night, scoring 21 points on 7 of 16 from the floor, including 4 of 9 from 3-point land, and 3 of 4 from the free throw line in a 117-107 loss to the Wizards.

Young was involved in a late-game scuffle with Drew Gooden, but was slapped with a technical foul and remained in a game. He did all of his work in 29 minutes of game action, also adding two rebounds and one assist. It was his first game action since Feb. 23.

(3/18/2014) The Lakers' injury woes have lingered all season long, but they do appear to be getting close to having two rotation players back in the fold.

Guard Nick Young (knee) and forward Jordan Hill (knee) are targeting returned this weekend, either Friday against the Wizards or Sunday against the Magic, after both took part in practice Tuesday. Both players have already been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Spurs, however.

"They're almost ready to play," coach Mike D'Antoni told the Los Angeles Daily News. "The injuries aren't too bad. I think Nick is further ahead than Jordan Hill just by looking at them. You can't tell if they're taking it easy because they're cautious."

Young has missed 14 of the last 15 games due to a left knee injury, while Hill has missed seven due to a right knee injury.

(3/12/2014) Lakers guard Nick Young has not played in two weeks, and is not particularly close to returning from a knee injury. 

According to ESPN.com, Young did not practice Wednesday, and is officially considered doubtful for both halves of the team's upcoming back-to-back set. That means he is likely expected to miss Thursday's game against the Thunder followed by Friday's vs. San Antonio.

Young has already missed 14 of the last 15 games for the Lakers as a result of this injury. He is averaging 16.8 points and 1.4 assists per game in 49 appearances when healthy.

Young scored 10 points off the bench on 3 of 4 shooting, including 1 of 1 from downtown, and 3 of 5 from the free throw line. He also contributed with one rebound and one steal while logging 20 minutes of game action. It was his first game since Feb. 5.
