Lakers SF Nick Young scores 29, hits game-winner vs. Spurs

(12/13/2014) Lakers small forward Nick Young scored a season-high 29 points on 9 of 14 shooting, including 6 of 9 shooting from three-point range, in his team's 112-110 overtime win over the Spurs Friday.

The Lakers lost a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter by scoring just 15 points in the final quarter of regular and found themselves behind with just seven seconds to go in overtime when Young knocked down his sixth three-pointer of the night to ultimately win the game. Young played a season-high 32 minutes in the win, kicking in one rebound and one assist to go with his huge scoring performance. The Lakers will square off with the Timberwolves Sunday.

(12/3/2014) Lakers small forward Nick Young scored a season-high 21 points on 7 of 14 shooting, including 5 of 8 shooting from three-point range, in his team's 111-92 loss to the Wizards Wednesday.

Young played just 24 minutes off the bench but still managed to come through with his highest point total in nine games this season thanks to his excellent work from behind the arc. He also kicked in two rebounds, one steal and one block in the loss. Young has averaged 20 points over his last three games heading into Friday's matchup with the Celtics.

(11/20/2014) Lakers shooting guard Nick Young received a flop warning from the league Thursday for a play that took place in the team's win over the Hawks Tuesday.

Young drew a foul while shooting a three-point shot, sliding out of bounds after taking his shot. However, replays of the incident show that his defender did not make any contact with Young. While Young was let off with just a warning in this instance, he will be subjected to a fine for another flopping violation.

Young, who missed the first 10 games of the season with a torn ligament in his thumb, put together a efficient shooting night, scoring 17 points on 6 of 10 shooting from the field, including 2 of 4 from downtown, and 3 of 5 from the charity stripe. He also chipped in with five rebounds and one steal while logging 28 minutes of game action in a 114-109 victory.

(11/12/2014) Lakers coach Byron Scott indicated Wednesday that shooting guard Nick Young could make his season debut during the team's three-game road trip next week, Lakers.com reports.

Young was expected to be sidelined into December after tearing a thumb ligament in early October, but Scott said earlier this week that the guard was expected to be cleared for full-contract scrimmage next week. The Lakers play in Atlanta Tuesday and in Houston Wednesday before wrapping up the road trip in Dallas Friday.

Young went for an MRI Friday after suffering the thumb injury in workouts. His absence will leave the Lakers shorthanded in the backcourt until at least late November.

(9/10/2014) Lakers coach Byron Scott told the Los Angeles Daily News Wednesday he has penciled in four of the five spots for the team's starting lineup, with only the small forward spot left the fill.

Scott plans to start Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant, Carlos Boozer and Jordan Hill together this season, with Wesley Johnson or Nick Young being considered for the small forward spot. That means rookie Julius Randle and newly acquired guard Jeremy Lin will come off the bench, and he is leaning toward bring Nick Young off the bench as well.

(7/11/2014) The Lakers have agreed to a deal to keep guard Nick Young around, according to ESPN.com Friday.

Young put together a career-best season while working on a minimum-salary deal with the Lakers, and he will be rewarded handsomely for it. CBSSports.com NBA Insider Ken Berger reports the deal will pay Young $21.5 million over four years, with the fourth year a player option.

Young averaged 17.9 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game in 64 appearances for the Lakers last season.

Young will become a restricted free agent coming off a career year. He averaged 17.9 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 64 games while serving mostly as a reserve for the Lakers, and was set to make just $1.2 million next season.

(4/15/2014) Lakers guard Nick Young helped his team snap a seven-game losing streak with a season-high 41-point effort Monday night against the Jazz.

Young made 14 of 23 shots, including 6 of 11 from behind the arc, and 7 of 9 from the free throw line. He also chipped in with three rebounds and three assists while logging 34 minutes of game action. He is averaging 26.0 points, 2.4 assists and 1.4 rebounds over his last five games played.

(4/9/2014) Lakers guard Nick Young was able to play through a minor knee injury Tuesday against the Rockets, and he didn't seem much bothered by it. He scored 32 points in 23 minutes off the bench, shooting 11 for 19 from the field with six 3-pointers made, and adding three assists in the 145-130 loss.

Young has been given free reign to shoot as often as he wants in the Lakers' offense, and has taken full advantage at every opportunity. He is averaging 17.5 points per game in 60 appearances, a career-high scoring average.

(4/6/2014) Lakers guard Nick Young suffered a knee injury during Sunday's loss to the Clippers, and was unable to return.

Making his return from an ankle injury, Young left the game after bumping his knees in the third quarter. However, head Mike D'Antoni expects him to be available for Tuesday's home game against Houston, the Los Angeles Times reports. The Lakers have only five games remaining this season.

"I'm going to go down with the ship," Young said.

Young sustained the injury in the fourth quarter and was unable to return. He finished with 14 points and two rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench before the injury. Young told the paper he hopes to play but is unsure if he'll be able to Sunday against the Clippers.

(4/3/2014) Lakers guard Nick Young indicated that he'll opt out of his contract with the Lakers and become a free agent this summer, NBA.com reports. Although Young will want to test the market, he did express his interest in remaining in Los Angeles, his hometown.

"Most definitely I want to stay home," Young said. "With the changes I see, they're going to do some big things this summer. Of course I want to be a part of a championship program and get a chance to compete next year. But we're just going to see what happens. I've got to sit down with my agent and see what happens this summer."

(4/2/2014) Lakers guard Nick Young went off from the bench Tuesday, recording his second career 40-point game in a 124-112 loss to the Trail Blazers.  

Young played just 33 minutes in the game and took a shot in just about each of them. He scored his 40 points on 15 of 26 shooting, with six 3-pointers made. He added four rebounds, two steals and an assist in the loss.

Though injuries have cost him significant time, Young is arguably enjoying the most productive season of his career. He is averaging 17.3 points per game on 42.6 percent shooting from the field.

(3/22/2014) Lakers guard Nick Young (knee) made his return to the floor Friday night, scoring 21 points on 7 of 16 from the floor, including 4 of 9 from 3-point land, and 3 of 4 from the free throw line in a 117-107 loss to the Wizards.

Young was involved in a late-game scuffle with Drew Gooden, but was slapped with a technical foul and remained in a game. He did all of his work in 29 minutes of game action, also adding two rebounds and one assist. It was his first game action since Feb. 23.
