(11/10/2014) The 76ers announced a pair of roster moves on Monday, per the Philadelphia Daily News. The team signed forward Drew Gordon from the NBA D-League and waived forward Malcolm Thomas. Thomas is expected to undergo left knee surgery, which will keep him sidelined for four weeks.

Thomas has been hampered by pain in his left knee and is debating whether surgery would be the best option. In five games, he is averaging 4.4 points and 4.6 rebounds.

(11/8/2014) 76ers forward Malcolm Thomas faces a tough decision regarding his injured left knee, having to choose between continuing to play through pain or undergoing surgery, which would sideline him for four weeks, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

"I had it drained last week," Thomas said, "and it swelled back up on me ... [The knee] is just filled up. I got cartilage just floating around."

Thomas sat out Friday with the knee issue. He has averaged 4.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 14.3 minutes in his first five games.

Malcolm Thomas opts to play for 76ers instead of overseas

(10/28/2014) Forward Malcolm Thomas opted to forgo the chance to play basketball in China when 76ers coach Brett Brown gave him the opportunity to play decent minutes with Philadelphia, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.

"It’s a great feeling. It’s a really great feeling," Thomas said. "I feel like I’ve been working on it this whole time. It just never happened. And now that it’s here I want to take full advantage."

Thomas played for Chicago in the summer league, but he was not invited to an NBA training camp. He averaged 15.2 points and 9.4 rebounds in 10 games in the NBA Development League last season.

"He’s got a chance. Really his first chance, in my opinion, to look at minutes and a role," Brown said. "It’s still highly competitive, but he sees that a bunch of young guys that he’s competing with. And he probably sees a lot more daylight than he would’ve seen with Utah or the Spurs or Chicago."

(10/25/2014) The 76ers have signed free-agent forward Malcolm Thomas, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports. The 25-year-old appeared in eight games last season between the Spurs and the Jazz. In the offseason, the Jazz traded him to Cleveland before the Cavaliers shipped him to Boston. Shortly after that, the Celtics waived the 6-foot-9 forward to clear cap space.

Thomas will make the 15-man roster when Philadelphia opens the season Wednesday against Indiana.

Boston will also receive a pair of future second round picks, and will have the option of waiving any of the players they acquired with non-guaranteed deals.

Cavaliers, Jazz agree to four-player trade

(7/22/2014) The Jazz have agreed to trade John Lucas, Malcolm Thomas and Erik Murphy to the Cavaliers in exchange for Carrick Felix, $1 million and a future second-round pick, Yahoo! Sports reports.

The trade gives the Cavaliers three non-guaranteed contracts, which could help with the logistics of a potential Kevin Love acquisition. Felix signed a four-year deal last offseason and is still due more than $1.75 million over the next two seasons.

Thomas has spent most of the season in the D-League, averaging 15.8 points and 10.4 rebounds per game in 12 appearances.
