Jon Leuer goes off in rare opportunity

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3/5/2014) Grizzlies forward Jon Leuer saw an increased role Wednesday against the Nets with Zach Randolph out with an illness, as he played in a game for the first time in four weeks.

With Randolph out and the Grizzlies' starters slumping, Leuer got a long leash with the second unit. He scored 19 points in 26 minutes, both of which represent his best single-game totals since early January. Leuer shot 6 of 10 from the field with three 3-pointers and five rebounds in a 103-94 loss.

Leuer has appeared in 35 games this season, but the majority of them came in the season's first three months. He has been a nonfactor recently, Wednesday's performance excepted.

Grizzlies reserve big men take a backseat

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(1/14/2014) With the return of center Marc Gasol from a knee injury, the Grizzlies big man rotation shrank immediately Tuesday, in a 90-87 win over the Thunder. Reserve big men Ed Davis, Jon Leuer and Kosta Koufos all saw their diminished roles in Gasol's return.

Davis saw the most playing time of the trio at 22 minutes, still a tad lower than his total for the month of January entering the game. He finished with six points and six rebounds on 3 of 6 shooting.

Leuer and Koufos barely saw the floor upon Gasol's return. Though Gasol was limited to just 24 minutes, Leuer and Koufos played just three minutes each, both finishing scoreless, with Leuer adding just a single rebound between them.

The Grizzlies are going to lean heavily on their All-Star big man duo of Gasol and Zach Randolph, leaving little room in the rotation for their backups moving forward.

Jon Leuer scores 11 off the bench

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(1/4/2014) Grizzlies forward Jon Leuer, who was held to just four points his last time out, bounced back with a decent showing during Friday's loss to the Nuggets in Denver.

Leuer nearly played the final eight minutes of the game and scored 11 points on 4 of 6 shooting from the field, including 1 of 2 from downtown, and 2 of 2 from the charity stripe. He also chipped in with three rebounds and one block while logging 15 minutes of game action in a 111-108 defeat.

Leuer has averaged only 5.2 points in 9.8 minutes while shooting 42.3 percent from the field over his last five games.

Jon Leuer sticking to the bench

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(1/3/2014) Grizzlies forward Jon Leuer's slide down the depth chart has continued in recent games, as he played just 10 minutes Thursday, in a 99-91 win over the Suns.

Leuer, who averaged 22.5 minutes per game in the month of December, played 10 off the bench Thursday. He scored just four points on 2 of 8 shooting, while adding four rebounds.

Leuer has provided the Grizzlies with some valuable floor-spacing, but has been losing playing time over the last five with Ed Davis moving up in the rotation. Leuer us averaging just 5.2 points and 2.2 rebounds in 10.8 minutes per game over the last five.

Jon Leuer posts first double-double

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/10/2013) Grizzlies forward Jon Leuer continued his string of solid play Monday, with his first career double-double in a 94-85 win over the Magic.

Leuer scored 16 points on 7 of 14 shooting, the third time he has reached double figures in the last four games. He added a career-high 12 rebounds as well in just 27 minutes of action.

Leuer has stepped in to play a bigger-than-expected role the Grizzlies in Marc Gasol's absence. He is averaging 13.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game over the last five, in just 27.2 minutes.

Jon Leuer steps up with career night off the bench

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/4/2013) With Zach Randolph sidelined with a toe injury, Grizzlies forward Jon Leuer stepped up and enjoyed a career game during Tuesday's win over the Suns.

Leuer went 10 of 13 shooting from the field, including 1 of 2 from downtown, and 2 of 2 from the free throw line. He finished the game with a career-high 23 points and nine rebounds, with two of them coming from the offensive side. He also chipped in with three blocks and one assist while logging 30 minutes of game action in a 110-91 victory.

Leuer opts to return to Memphis

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(7/18/2013) The Grizzlies announced Monday the signing of forward Jon Leuer to a multi-year contract, the details of which have yet to be released. Leuer averaged just 1.8 points per game in 19 appearances with the Grizzlies last season.
