Shawn Marion doubles up in win over Detroit

(2/22/2014) Mavericks forward Shawn Marion followed a 22-point effort on Friday with a double-double Saturday night against the Pistons in Detroit.

Marion scored 10 points on 5 of 12 shooting from the field, missing all three of his attempts from 3-point land. He completed the double-double with 11 rebounds, four of which came from the offensive end of the glass. He also chipped in with two assists and one steal while logging 31 minutes. 

It was Marion's eighth double-double of the season, two of them have come in February. He has averaged 9.8 points and 6.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists over his last five games.

(2/21/2014) Mavericks forward Shawn Marion enjoyed a productive performance on Friday, and fell just three rebounds shy of a double-double in his team's 124-112 victory over the 76ers.

Marion scored 22 points on 11 of 14 shooting from the field, including 0 of 2 from downtown. He also contributed with seven rebounds, three assists and two steals while logging 31 minutes of game action.

Marion has scored 20-plus points just five times this season. He has averaged 10.0 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists over his last five games played.

(2/6/2014) Mavericks forward Shawn Marion was back on the floor Wednesday against the Grizzlies, after missing two games with a shoulder injury.

Marion played 33 minutes in the game, but failed to make much of an impact on the box score. He scored just eight points on 3 of 6 shooting, his fifth game in a row in single figures. He added just two rebounds and one assist, though he also snagged three steals while turning the ball over just once in a 110-96 win.

Marion is averaging just 7.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game over the last five.

Marion had a typically strong performance in his return to the floor, scoring 14 points on 6 of 9 shooting. He added six rebounds and three assists, while turning the ball over twice in 33 minutes in a 129-127 loss.

(1/14/2014) Mavericks forward Shawn Marion made his return to practice Tuesday, and should be able to play Wednesday against the Clippers, after missing four games with a shoulder injury. He did admit to The Dallas Morning News that his conditioning might be an issue after missing more than a week of action, but he avoided any setbacks with the shoulder.

"I was fatigued, but it didn’t get worse," Marion said. "I was able to do the whole practice. We had good activity out there. I plan on playing if I don't have any other problems."

(1/8/2014) Mavericks foward Shawn Marion will not play Wednesday or Friday as he recovers from a shoulder contusion, the Dallas Morning News reports. He could miss more time, but the team is unclear of his status beyond Friday.

"I don’t know what his status is for Saturday, but he’s banged up," head coach Rick Carlisle said Wednesday. "He’s in an uncomfortable state right now. He’s hurting. But to my knowledge there was no serious things from the diagnostic tests. He’s got some bad bruises from hitting the floor hard. We were very lucky. I don’t expect him to travel at this point."

Marion played just 15 minutes Tuesday before exiting with the injury. The Mavericks play at home on Saturday and Tuesday.

Marion landed on the shoulder in a play during the second quarter and appeared to be in a considerable amount of pain. He exited to the back and had X-rays before the team diagnosed him with the contusion.

Marion scored eight points on 4 of 7 shooting while racking up seven rebounds and one assist in 15 minutes before the injury. He was questionable to play in Tuesday's game due to a sprained ankle.

Marion turned his ankle during Sunday's loss to the Knicks and was limited to riding the stationary bike during Monday's session. His status remains uncertain for Tuesday's game against the Lakers.

(12/31/2013) Mavericks forward Shawn Marion snapped out of his funk in a big way Monday, as he poured in a season-high in points in against the Timberwolves.

Marion, who had been averaging just 9.4 points per game over his previous 10 games, scored 32 in just 32 minutes in the 100-98 win. He shot 14 of 19 from the field with four 3-pointers, and did his usual stat-sheet stuffing. He added six rebounds, three assists and one block and steal in the game.

Marion finished the month of December averaging 11.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game in 13 contests.

Marion went 7 of 11 shooting from the field, and doubled up with 14 points and a team-high 13 boards, with five of them coming from the offensive end. He also contributed with two assists and one steal while logging 33 minutes of game action in a 105-83 victory.

Marion was held to single-digit scoring in each of his previous two games entering Saturday. It was his first double-double since Dec. 14. He is averaging 9.2 points and 7.6 rebounds over his last five games.
