Pelicans' Alexis Ajinca doubles up in loss to Clippers

(3/22/2015) Pelicans center Alexis Ajinca notched a double-double during Sunday afternoon's 107-100 loss to the Clippers. 

Ajinca scored 11 points and brought down 10 rebounds in the loss. Ajinca shot 5 of 11 from the field and made one of his two free-throw attempts. Ajinca also recorded a steal. This is fhte fifth time Ajinca has posted a double-double this season.

(3/21/2015) Alexis Ajinca scored 15 points and had eight rebounds, but it wasn't enough for the undermanned Pelicans, who lost 112-96 to the Warriors on Friday. 

The Pelicans were without four of their top six players, including leading scorer Anthony Davis. 

Ajinca tried to make up the difference, hitting six of 10 shots from the field. 

The Pelicans next play at the Clippers on Sunday.

(3/11/2015) Pelicans backup forward Alexis Ajinca scored 17 points on 7 of 14 shooting from the field in New Orleans' 111-91 win over the Nets Tuesday. Coach Monty Williams likes what he can do for the team coming out of the reserve role.

"He was good," Williams said. "He gave us a big lift. Being able to throw him the ball is something that we've gone to the last few weeks and he's delivered for us."

Ajinca also grabbed five rebounds and dished out four assists in the contest.

(3/4/2015) Pelicans center Alexis Ajinca posted a double-double on Wednesday against the Pistons. 

Ajinca shot 5-10 from the field, finishing with 10 points. He was active on the boards, pulling down 11 rebounds. Nine of those came on the defensive side of the court. Ajinca added two assists and one block during the contest. 

Following the game, Ajinca talked about his recent breakout. "I'm trying to bring anything I have to the team. Especially because first we had A.D. (Anthony Davis) and Ryan (Anderson) be out so I had to step up and play big time minutes, and I had to do some different (things)," he said. "It went well, so now I’m going to go and keep it this way and hopefully I will keep having some good minutes."


Career night for Alexis Ajinca leads Pelicans

(2/28/2015) Alexis Ajinca scored a career-high 24 points in the Pelicans' 104-102 win over the Heat on Friday. 

Ajinca hit nine of 10 shots and added eight rebounds and three blocks. His layup with 26 seconds left gave the Pelicans the win. 

"It feels great," Ajinca said. "It feels even better when you win. This was a big win."

"My teammates gave me the ball in the right position," he added. "I just had to finish.”

The Pelicans next play at the Nuggets on Sunday. 

Pelicans rule Anthony Davis out of Wednesday's game

(2/11/2015) Pelicans forward Anthony Davis has been ruled out of Wednesday's game against the Pacers, the team announced. 

It will be the second straight game Davis has missed after spraining his right shoulder. Center Alexis Ajinca is expected to start in place of Davis.

The Pelicans are 2 1/2-point favorites.

(2/10/2015) Pelicans forward Anthony Davis is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against the Pacers, the team announced. 

Davis is dealing with a sprained right shoulder, which caused him to miss Monday's loss to the Jazz. Center Alexis Ajinca is expected to replace Davis in the starting lineup if Davis is held out.

Meanwhile, Ryan Anderson has been ruled out of Wednesday's game. It will be the second straight game Anderson has missed while dealing with a right elbow sprain. Luke Babbitt is expected to see his role increase with Anderson sidelined.

(2/9/2015) Pelicans PF Ryan Anderson will not play in Monday's game against the Jazz. 

Head coach Monty Williams informed the media that Anderson wouldn't play shortly before game time. Anderson is battling elbow soreness, and Alexis Ajinca will start in his place.

The Pelicans will be without Anderson and Anthony Davis, who left Saturday's game with a shoulder sprain.

The Pelicans are three-point favorites over the visiting Jazz.

(1/16/2015) Pelicans backup center Alexis Ajinca scored 16 points on 6 of 9 shooting and grabbed 14 rebounds in New Orleans' 96-81 loss to the Sixers Friday.

With starting power forward Anthony Davis out of the lineup, New Orleans used Ryan Anderson, Dante Cunningham and Ajinca to fill the void. It was Ajinca's second double-double of the season and most minutes he's played in a game all season.

(12/20/2014) Pelicans center Alexis Ajinca only logged 15 minutes off the bench, but it was enough time for him to register a double-double in his team's 114-88 defeat to Portland at home Saturday night.

Ajinca, who made his first appearance since Dec. 12, scored 10 points on 4 of 7 shooting and 2 of 2 from the free throw line. He added 13 rebounds and one steal in a losing effort. Ajinca has four career double-doubles.


Pelicans C Omer Asik in danger of sitting out second straight game

(11/22/2014) Pelicans center Omer Asik aggravated his lower back injury during warmups on Friday, which caused him to sit out New Orleans' 117-97 loss to Denver. According to Utah's radio announcer, Asik "seems unlikely" to play Saturday night against the Jazz. If Asik is unable to play, the team will likely have Alexis Ajinca in the starting lineup to replace him.

In eight games, Asik is averaging 9.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per contest.

(3/2/2014) Pelicans center Alexis Ajinca registered his second double-double of the season Saturday night against the Clippers in Los Angeles.

Ajinca scored 11 points on 4 of 6 from the floor, and 3 of 4 from the charity stripe. He completed the other half of the double-double with 10 boards, four of which came from the offensive end of the glass. He also chipped in with one assist, two blocks and one steal while logging 29 minutes of game action.

All two of Ajinca's double-doubles have come in the last four games. He is averaging 11.4 points and 8.2 rebounds over his last five games played.

(2/26/2014) Pelicans center Alexis Ajinca scored in double figures for the second game in a row Wednesday against the Mavericks.

Ajinca topped the 20-minute mark for the third game in a row, and put together a solid all-around game. He scored 14 points on 6 of 10 shooting, and added eight rebounds and three assists as well in the 108-89 loss.

Ajinca might see a larger-than-expected role moving forward, with Anthony Davis going down with a shoulder injury Wednesday. Even with 33 points over his last two games, Ajinca is averaging just 9.2 over the last five. 


Alexis Ajinca records career-best performance vs. Clippers

(2/24/2014) Pelicans center Alexis Ajinca set a couple career highs in Monday's 123-110 loss to the Clippers, scoring a career-best 19 points on 7 of 13 shooting and grabbing a career-high 12 rebounds in 27 minutes of action.

Ajinca has been close to recording a double-double three times in February, but Monday's performance marked his first one of the season. He also chipped in one assist and one block in the loss. Ajinca has averaged 4.9 points and 4.6 rebounds over 32 games played.

(2/13/2014) Pelicans center Alexis Ajinca put together one of his best games of the season Wednesday against the Bucks, in a 12-98 win.

Ajinca played just 22 minutes in the game, but took advantage of a porous and injury-riddled Bucks roster. He scored 16 points on 7 of 7 shooting and added nine rebounds and three assists, the latter of which represents a season-high.

Ajinca has been a decent contributor as a role player for the Pelicans, averaging 4.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game in 28 appearances after being out of the NBA for two seasons.

(1/29/2014) Pelicans center Alexis Ajinca continues to see solid playing time, but put together yet another quiet effort Wednesday, in an 88-77 loss to the Timberwolves.

 Ajinca started at center Wednesday and played 16 minutes, his usual total even without Anthony Davis in the lineup. He scored four points on 2 of 5 shooting and added five rebounds, however he also turned the ball over three times.

Ajinca has shown flashes of production at times, but is still averaging just 3.9 points per game for the season.
