Celtics rule out four for finale

(4/16/2014) The Celtics will be without a big chunk of their rotation for the season finale against the Wizards, as four players have been ruled out for Wednesday. Starting guards Rajon Rondo (hamstring) and Jerryd Bayless (knee) are joined on the injury list by forwards Kris Humphries (knee) and Jared Sullinger (ankle).

Sullinger, Bayless and Humphries ended up missing the final three games of the season due to his injury, while Rondo sat out three of the final four. 


Celtics will be without three players Monday

(4/14/2014) The Celtics will be without the services of Kris Humphries, Jared Sullinger and Jerryd Bayless Monday night against the 76ers, the Boston Herald reports.

Humphries has been bothered by right knee soreness, which has now kept him out four of the past five games. He underwent an MRI, which didn't reveal structural damage. Sullinger is nursing a right ankle sprain which remains swollen. The team will take a cautious approach with Sullinger for the final week of the season. Bayless did not travel with the team in order to receive treatment on his hyper-extended right knee. He has now missed back-to-back games.

The Celtics will close out the season Wednesday at home against Washington.

(4/12/2014) The Celtics will be without three key rotation pieces Saturday against the Cavaliers, on the second night of a back-to-back set.

Guard Jerryd Bayless has been ruled out with a knee injury suffered in the team's previous game, while Rajon Rondo will miss his second game in a row with a bruised shin. They are joined on the sidelines by Jared Sullinger, who played through a sprained ankle Friday but appears to have suffered a setback.

With just two games left on the schedule, it is not known whether any of this trio is expected to remain on the sidelines through the final game. The Celtics' penultimate game is set for Monday against the 76ers. 


Jerryd Bayless leaves Friday with right knee sprain

(4/11/2014) Celtics guard Jerryd Bayless suffered a sprained right knee during Friday's game against the Bobcats, and was unable to return after playing 19 minutes off the bench. Bayless had just two points prior to his injury, while missing all four of his field-goal attempts. He added one rebound and two assists before leaving.

Bayless' status moving forward has not been determined, but he won't have much time to get healthy before the team's next game, Saturday against the Cavaliers. 


Celtics backcourt thrives in Rajon Rondo's absence

(4/6/2014) With Rajon Rondo taking the night off to rest, the Celtics got some big contributions from the backcourt in a 115-111 loss to the Pistons Saturday.

Guard Jerryd Bayless led the team in scoring with 25 points on 10 of 19 shooting, with five 3-pointers made. He added four rebounds and three assists, as much of the playmaking was done by Phil Pressey. Pressey recorded the first double-double of his career, scoring 12 points on 5 of 8 shooting and dishing out 11 assists with just one turnover in 36 minutes.

Both players have been sporadically productive, though Bayless has been the more reliable of the two. He is averaging 10.5 points since joining the Celtics, while Pressey is averaging 2.6 points and 2.9 assists per game in his rookie season.

(3/13/2014) Celtics guard Jerryd Bayless was productive Wednesday against the Knicks, though it came in a 116-92 loss.

Bayless played 32 minutes in a start and finished with 15 points. He shot just 5 of 14 from the field but made up for that with four 3-pointers,w hill adding three rebounds and three assists.

Bayless is enjoying a strong run recently, scoring in double figures in eight of the last 10 games and averaging 13.1 points and 2.3 assists per game in that span.

(2/26/2014) With his team down four injured players Wednesday, Celtics guard Jerryd Bayless scored a season-high 29 points on 12 of 21 shooting, including 5 of 8 shooting from behind the arc, in Boston's 115-104 win over Atlanta.

Bayless topped his previous season high of 14 shots by 50 percent in this one while playing a season-high 36 minutes and chipping in two rebounds, two assists and one steal. He has averaged 8.6 points and 2.7 assists over 52 games played.

(2/23/2014) With Rajon Rondo receiving a day of rest, Celtics point guard Jerryd Bayless saw some run off the bench and scored 16 points in a 105-98 defeat to the Kings in Sacramento on Saturday.

Bayless shot 6 of 14 from the floor, including 0 of 3 from downtown, and 4 of 7 from the free throw line. He also chipped in with four assists, two rebounds and two steals while logging 30 minutes of game action.

Bayless has scored in double figures in two of his last four games. He is averaging 7.6 points, 4.4 assists and 2.8 rebounds over his last five games played.

(1/29/2014) Recovered from a toe injury, Celtics guard Jerryd Bayless was able to play 27 minutes Tuesday, in a 114-88 loss to the Knicks.

 Bayless returned from his four-game absence and made an impact off the bench. He scored 10 points on 4 of 9 shooting, and added a pair of rebounds and four assists, while turning the ball over just once.

Bayless has provided the Celtics with some scoring punch off the bench, but is still putting up pretty pedestrian numbers since the trade. He is averaging 7.4 points per game in nine appearances with the Celtics.

Bayless sustained the injury in the third quarter and was unable to return for the remainder of the game. He scored only four points on 2 of 4 shooting while logging eight minutes off the bench. He also chipped in with two rebounds in a 93-91 defeat.

It was Bayless' highest point total in five games with the Celtics, and he's hit more than 50 percent of his shots in two consecutive games after going 7 for 26 in his first three games combined. He also added four assists, two steals, one rebound and one block in 24 minutes off the bench. Bayless has averaged 8.3 points and 2.4 assists in 36 games played.

(1/9/2014) Recently acquired guard Jerryd Bayless has played a pretty large role for the Celtics in his first two games since being acquired via trade, as he topped the 20-minute mark for the second game in a row Wednesday against the Clippers.

Bayless' shot hasn't been right in those two games, as he followed up a 3-of-11 showing Tuesday by going 3 for 9 Wednesday. He did make a pair of 3-pointers while going 3 for 3 at the free-throw line to finish with 11 points, and he added three rebounds and five assists in the 111-105 loss.

Bayless had been dealing with a pretty inconsistent role with the Grizzlies prior to the trade, but it seems like the Celtics will be using him more. He is averaging 8.1 points per game on the season. 


Celtics, Grizzlies complete trade with help from Thunder

(1/7/2014) The trade agreement reached Sunday between the Celtics and Grizzlies finally came to fruition Tuesday, as the teams announced a deal had been completed to swap guard Jerryd Bayless for guard Courtney Lee.

To complete the deal, the Thunder entered the mix, sending forward Ryan Gomes to Boston and cash to the Grizzlies for two of the Grizzlies’ conditional draft picks.

Lee is expected to be available for the Grizzlies Tuesday against San Antonio, while it remains unclear when Bayless will be active for the Celtics. Boston immediately waived Ryan Gomes for cap space.

(1/5/2014) The Celtics and Grizzlies have reached an agreement to trade Jerryd Bayless for guard Courtney Lee, according to ESPN. The deal will become official on Monday.

Bayless averaged 8.0 points, 2.0 assists and 1.9 rebounds per game this season. In 30 games, Lee averaged 7.4 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists on 49.2 percent shooting and 44.2 percent from downtown this season.

(1/3/2014) Grizzlies guard Jerryd Bayless has struggled with his consistency this season, but put together a solid performance Thursday, in a 99-91 win over the Suns. 

Bayless, who scored just four points in the team's previous game, chipped in 17 points in 31 minutes Thursday. He shot 6 of 11 from the field, with three 3-points, and added four assists with no turnovers, and one rebounds. 

Bayless is averaging 12.0 points per game over the last five, but has been held to single digits in two of those games. His 8.0 points per game average is his worst since his rookie season.

Bayless had scored 22 points over his previous seven games combined heading into Wednesday's matchup before lighting up the scoreboard with his best offensive production of the season. He added three rebounds and one assist in 21 minutes off the bench.
