Suns sign Sonny Weems

(7/18/2015) The Suns signed guard/forward Sonny Weems , General Manager Ryan McDonough announced on Friday.

Weems has played for CSKA Moscow in the Euroleague the last three years, averaging 13.0 points. He last played in the NBA for Toronto in 2011.

"Sonny Weems has been one of the best players outside of the NBA over the past few years," McDonough said. "We've seen him dominate high-level competition at both ends of the floor and we think his versatility and experience help solidify our wing rotation."


Raptors withdraw offer for Weems

(12/25/2011) Sonny Weems, who is a free agent, will not play in the NBA this season. Weems will play in Lithuania without an out clause this season. Weems hopes to return to the NBA next year. "I will be going back to the NBA unless I get an offer in Europe that I can't refuse," said Weems.

(4/14/2011) After his best season as a pro, Raptors guard Sonny Weems is heading into free agency as a restricted player. Toronto will have the opportunity to match any offer that Weems receives from other teams. He's made his stake for a solid deal after improving in each of his first three seasons in the NBA. Weems did deal with some injury issues that caused him to miss 23 games on the year, including the team's final three. Still, he managed to score a career-best 9.2 points per game with a respectable 44 percent shooting from the floor.

(4/5/2011) Raptors guard Sonny Weems was finally able to put the ball in the basket during Sunday's 102-98 win over the Magic. Weems, who had logged 18 minutes over the two previous games without scoring, finished with 11 points in 21 minutes in the win over Orlando. Weems has only scored in double figures three times since March 1.

(2/20/2011) Raptors G Sonny Weems got off to a tremendous start this season and heads into the All-Star break with some decent numbers. He is averaging career highs in points (10.4), rebounds (three), assists (2.1) and steals (0.8) in 37 games this season. While he did miss 18 games with a lower back injury, Weems finished the unofficial first half averaging 9.1 points with 3.4 rebounds and two assists over his last 10 contests.

(2/9/2011) Raptors guard Sonny Weems missed 18 games with a lower back injury this season, but he wasn't worried about his health. According to the Toronto Sun, Weems was more concerned with his position on the team. “It’s kinda hard,” he said about being on the outside looking in for so long. “You got a lot going through your mind when you’re sitting there back home and the team is on the road and losing. You think a lot, trust me. It’s kind of (nerve-wracking). I was thinking they were probably going to make changes." While he was sidelined the Raptors didn't make too many moves and with them hit hard by injuries, Weems still has a roster spot. So now that he's healthy and pain-free, Weems is starting to get back into form. “I can bend down now and not feel like an old man so I know I’m better,” he said. “I’m just blessed to be back playing.”

(2/5/2011) Since missing 18 games this season with a back issue, Raptors guard Sonny Weems had not managed to shoot 50 percent from the floor until Friday's win over the Timberwolves. He scored 16 points on 8 of 14 shooting, by far the best percentage (57) in his seven games since returning. Weems added three rebounds while assisting on three baskets and stealing a pass in 33 minutes of playing time.
