Timberwolves' Nikola Pekovic will start Sunday at Atlanta

(1/25/2015) Timberwolves center Nikola Pekovic will make his return to the starting lineup for Sunday's game at Atlanta, the team announced.

Pekovic has played the last two games after being out since Nov. 15 with a right wrist fracture.

The Timberwolves are 18-point underdogs to the Hawks.

Pekovic will be playing in his first game since Nov. 15 after dealing with ankle and wrist injuries. He's averaged 11.9 points and 8.1 rebounds in nine games.

Martin has also been sidelined since mid-November while recovering from a broken wrist. He has averaged 20.4 points in nine games.

Minnesota is a 9-point home underdog against Dallas Wednesday.

Pekovic has not played since Nov. 15 due to an ankle injury. Coach Flip Saunders said Pekoivc's playing status will be based on he feels Wednesday. Pekovic told reporters despite being sore, he was feeling good, reports the Associated Press.

Martin has missed Minnesota's last 28 games with a fractured right wrist while Pekovic is dealing with a sore right ankle and sprained right wrist, which has caused him to miss 29 games this season.

(1/17/2015) The Timberwolves will be without the services of guard Ricky Rubio and forward Shabazz Muhammad for Saturday's game against Denver. Shooting guard Kevin Martin and center Nikola Pekovic are both doubtful as well.

Rubio has missed the past 33 games after suffering a sprained left ankle on Nov. 7. Muhammad has been sidelined for the past three games with a strained outer oblique muscle. Martin has missed the past 28 contests after suffering a fractured right wrist on Nov. 19. Pekovic is nursing a sore right ankle and sprained right wrist, which has caused him to miss 29 games this season.

Minnesota is a 12-point underdog at Denver.

Martin and Pekovic were doubtful heading into the contest. Rookie Andrew Wiggins and Gorgui Dieng will continue to start in their absence.

While both Martin (wrist) and Pekovic (ankle) are working there way back from significant injuries they suffered in November, it is unlikely they return Friday. Ricky Rubio (ankle) and Shabazz Muhammad (oblique) have been declared out.

The Timberwolves are currently 14-point underdogs against the Suns.

(1/16/2015) Timberwolves guard Kevin Martin (wrist) and center Nikola Pekovic (ankle) are both nearing a return to game action, reports the Star Tribune.

Both players have been sidelined since November due to injury. Martin went through full contact practice on Thursday and appears on track to be the first one to return to the hardwood. Pekovic's last hurdle appears to be conditioning. Coach Flip Saunders indicated that Pekovic could be sent down to the D-League for a rehab assignment to shake off some of his rust.

(12/31/2014) The Timberwolves may send Kevin Martin and Nikola Pekovic to the D-League in order to get both players some work, according to the AP.

Both players are expected to be out until at least early January due to injuries. Pekovic is dealing with an ankle injury. Martin has a wrist issue. When both players are ready to return, there's a chance they'll be sent down for a few games in order to get used to playing again. If sent down, both players would probably be back up after just a few games.

(12/28/2014) Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders said that center Nikola Pekovic (ankle) ran on an antigravity treadmill at about 80 percent Saturday, the Star Tribune reports.

Saunders added that he hopes Pekovic will be cleared to run on his own weight after an MRI next week. The center had been dealing with both a wrist injury and an ankle issue, with the latter being re-aggravated in early December. He has limited to just nine games this season.

Pekovice could return to practice as soon as two weeks from Tuesday, but Saunders said he'd like to see him practice for an additional two weeks.
