Thunder guard Russell Westbrook nears triple-double in loss Sunday

(1/25/2015) Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook scored 22 points and dished out 11 assists in Oklahoma City's 108-98 loss to the Cavaliers Sunday.

Despite struggling to find his shot, going 7 of 26 from the field, Westbrook grabbed his ninth double-double of the season. He pulled down nine rebounds, coming up one short of his second triple-double of the season.

Westbrook also dished out a team-high 11 assists, giving him his eighth double-double of the season and 114th of his career. It was Westbrook's first double digit assist game in his last four games.

(1/21/2015) Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook scored 32 points on 12 of 28 shooting Wednesday, including making the game-winning layup with less than one second left in overtime to give his team a 105-103 win over the Wizards.

Westbrook and Kevin Durant combined for 66 points in the overtime win to deliver the Wizards just their sixth home loss of the season. The guard racked up eight rebounds, eight assists and one steal in 42 minutes Wednesday but failed to make any of his four attempts from behind the arc. He'll square off with the Hawks Friday.

(1/20/2015) Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook scored 19 points on 8 of 17 shooting while grabbing 10 rebounds in his team's 94-86 win over the Heat Tuesday.

Westbrook picked up at least 10 rebounds for the fourth time this season but also for the second time in his last three games, which includes his 17-15-17 line against Golden State Friday. He also racked up six assists and four steals in 35 minutes in Tuesday's win, the Thunder's third straight. Westbrook will square off with the Wizards Wednesday.

It was Westbrook's first triple-double of the season and ninth of his career. Westbrook also added four steals to his extensive stat line Friday.

Both fouls came within 20 seconds of each other. With 27 seconds left before half, Westbrook was tagged with his first technical foul. With the half nearly over, he and Mike Longabardi received a double-technical. Westbrook was ejected from the game. He finished with 20 points and four assists.

(12/26/2014) Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook scored a team-high 29 points on 11 of 21 shooting in his team's 98-75 win over the Hornets Friday.

Westbrook turned the ball over six times Friday but didn't pay a big price for the miscues, as the Hornets only managed to shoot 28.7 percent as a team. The point guard played just 25 minutes in the blowout win, his lowest amount of playing time since making his return from injury in late November. Westbrook also picked up five assists, two rebounds, two steals and one block against the Hornets. He'll square off with the Mavericks Sunday.

Westbrook shot 14-28 from the field. He made six free throw attempts. Westbrook made sure to involve his teammates, dishing out 11 assists for the double-double. He finished with five rebounds and five assists.

Westbrook shot 16-34 from the field, including one from beyond the arc. He sunk seven of nine of his free throw attempts. Westbrook was active on the boards, coming up with 10 rebounds. He added five rebounds and six assists.

Westbrook was tasked with filling the role of top scorer after Kevin Durant went down with an ankle injury in the first half. He responded by setting a season high in field-goal attempts while posting his third 30-point performance in the last four games. The point guard also tallied eight assists, three rebounds and two steals in 40 minutes but turned the ball over six times. The Thunder will square off with the Lakers Friday.

(12/17/2014) Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook registered his fourth 30-point performance of the season, leading his team to 104-92 victory over Sacramento on Tuesday.

Westbrook scored a game-high 32 points on 11 of 20 shooting from the field, including 1 of 3 from 3-point territory and 9 of 12 from the charity stripe. He turned in an all-around performance, adding seven assists, six rebounds and four steals while logging 32 minutes of game action.

Westbrook has scored 26-plus points in all but two of his first nine games back from a fractured right hand. He is averaging 29.6 points, 7.2 assists, 6.4 rebounds and 2.4 steals while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 28.6 percent from downtown over his last five games.

(11/28/2014) Thunder coach Scott Brooks said guard Russell Westbrook will return to the starting lineup Friday night against the Knicks, reports the Oklahoman. Westbrook was sidelined since late October because of a fractured right hand. He took part in morning shootaround with a brace on his right hand and is expected to use it during the game.

Westbrook averaged 20.0 points, 5.0 assists and 2.0 rebounds through the first two games of the season before picking up the injury. Reggie Jackson will come off the bench for the Thunder.

(11/24/2014) Thunder coach Scott Brooks said guard Russell Westbrook, who has been out since late October because of a fractured right hand, participated in "most" of the team's practice Monday, including contact drills, according to The Oklahoman

Brooks would not rule out Westbrook returning to the lineup Friday against the Knicks. However, he added, "We'll make that decision later on."

Because the Thunder had to use the 10-day hardship because of myriad injuries, Westbrook isn't eligible to return Wednesday against the Jazz. The hardship timeframe expires Thursday.

Westbrook was injured in the second game of the season Oct. 30 at the Clippers.


Brooks: Durant, Westbrook 'looked good' in 'portions of practice'

(11/22/2014) Thunder coach Scott Brooks told reporters small forward Kevin Durant (foot) and guard Russell Westbrook (hand) "looked good" in "portions of practice" Saturday, reports the Oklahoman. Both players took part in non contact portions of practice for the first time since being sidelined with their respective injuries.

According to an earlier report, both are "healing at an accelerated rate" and could be back in the starting lineup as early as the end of next week.


Report: Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook could return next week

(11/22/2014) Thunder small forward Kevin Durant (foot) and guard Russell Westbrook (hand) are both "healing at an accelerated rate" and could be back in the starting lineup as early as the end of next week, according to the Oklahoman.

Both players made some progress while working out this week and are scheduled to take part in non-contact practice Saturday and will be re-evaluated next week.

"Probably not any of the contact stuff," Brooks said. "(But) they will go through some of our practice and we'll go from there."

Both will certainly miss Sunday's game against Golden State. Oklahoma City will face the Jazz on Wednesday and the Knicks on Friday.
