Cavs reach deal with Iman Shumpert

(7/1/2015) The Cavaliers and guard Iman Shumpert have agreed to a four-year, $40 million contract for him to remain with the team, reports CBSSports.com NBA Insider Ken Berger.

Shumpert was a restricted free agent after the Cavs recently extended him a qualifying offer. He averaged 8.0 points and 3.6 rebounds in 62 games last season.

(7/1/2015) Shooting guard Iman Shumpert had been considered a strong bet to remain with the Cavaliers, but he has been unable to reach an agreement with that team and will begin meeting with others, sources have told Yahoo Sports.

Shumpert performed well in both a starting and reserve role for Cleveland, but a shoulder injury hindered him in the finals. He averaged 8.0 points for the Knicks and Cavaliers this season in 25 minutes per game and shot a career-best 41 percent from the floor.

(6/10/2015) A Cavaliers team that has received nothing but bad injury news in the playoffs, losing standouts Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love in the process, has gotten some good news in regard to shooting guard Iman Shumpert.

David Blatt has announced that the MRI on Shumpert's shoulder revealed only a bruise, per ESPN. The coach admitted that the injury remains painful, but expressed relief that there is no serious damage.

Shumpert is expected to start in Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Thursday. "It would take a lot for me not to play," he told the Fox Sports. "There would have to be structural damage."

(6/10/2015) Cavaliers defensive-oriented shooting guard Iman Shumpert will undergo an MRI Wednesday on his left shoulder, per ESPN.

Shumpert ran into a screen by Warriors burly forward Draymond Green in the first quarter of Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday. The initial diagnosis was a contusion. He left the court, but returned and ended up playing 32 minutes.

He did not seem particularly worried following the game. "I think it's just bruised," he said. "Bruised, sprained, something. ... I'll be all right."

Shumpert has struggled offensively in the series after previously contributing extensively during the playoffs. He is shooting 22 percent (6-for-27) from the field over his last four games.

Shumpert injured the shoulder after running into a tough screen from Warriors forward Draymond Green. Shumpert grabbed the shoulder immedately and grimaced in pain after the contact. 

Shumpert was evaluated and able to return in the second quarter.

(6/7/2015) Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert suffered a minor ankle injury when he twisted his ankle along the baseline during Sunday's Game 2 matchup at Golden State, reports The San Francisco Chronicle.

Shumpert sustained the injury just before the end of the first half, but he remained in the game. Shumpert scored four points on 1-of-5 shooting in the first half. He did start the second half of the game.

(6/1/2015) Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert has been playing through part of the playoffs with a pulled groing muscle, according to the Akron-Beacon Journal. Coach David Blatt was amazed at how effective he's been.

"He's participating and we're doing everything we can to continue to monitor his situation with the groin," he said. "And you know, that kind of injury takes time to totally heal."

Shumpert is averaging 10.1 points and 5.4 rebounds so far this postseason.


Cavs' Dellavedova: 'I will be ready for whatever' in wake of Irving injury

(5/22/2015) With Kyrie Irving listed as questionable for Game 2 against the Hawks on Friday, Cavs guard Matthew Dellavedova is primed to take on a bigger, more crucial role, per Cleveland.com.

"I will be ready for whatever the team needs," Dellavedova said when asked about the possibility of starting. "It will probably mean a lot more minutes so I might have to adjust my game a little there, but not too much."

Though Irving is the Cavs' second-leading scorer, it was Dellavedova who came up big in the team's closeout win over the Bulls in Game 6 of the previous series. Dellavedova scored a season-high 19 points on 7of 11 shooting, including 3 of 5 from behind the arc.

"Delly has done great work for us all season coming from the bench and he has started other times during the season," Cavs coach David Blatt said. "He's been a consistent rotation guy for us and he's a dependable and high character guy that gives us an awful lot. We believe in him, our guys believe in him and he's ready."

Iman Shumpert is also capable of filling in for Irving during stretches. Shumpert is averaging 9.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists per games during the playoffs.

Shumpert sustained a groin strain during the Game 2 victory in Cleveland. Shumpert will remain in the starting lineup for Game 3, reports the Akron Beacon Journal

"We'll monitor his play," coach David Blatt said.

The series is tied at 1-1 and the Bulls are 2-point favorites in Game 3.

(5/8/2015) Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert, whose contributions have been invaluable during the suspension of J.R. Smith in the first two games of the playoff series against Chicago, is vowing to play Friday night in Game 3.

Shumpert sustained a groin strain Wednesday, but has said it will take a team of doctors to keep him off the floor. He added Friday that he will do whatever it takes to play, per the Northeast Ohio Media Group.

He is averaging 18.5 points and four rebounds in 35 minutes per game in the series.

Smith, meanwhile, is set to return Friday night.

Coach David Blatt said that Shumpert was "feeling a little better" but that he was unsure if Shumpert would be able to play. Shumpert is averaging 18.3 points in the first two games of the series. The Cavaliers will get a boost from the return of guard J.R. Smith from his two-game suspension.

Smith is suspended for the first two games of the series after getting ejected for punching Jae Crowder in Game 4 of their opening round series. Love will miss the rest of the playoffs with after undergoing shoulder surgery. 

Shumpert averaged 8.0 points and 3.6 rebounds in 62 games this season. Miller averaged 2.1 points and 1.8 rebounds in 52 games. The Cavaliers are currently 4 1/2-point favorites against the Bulls.

"I think I'll get more opportunities just playing more minutes if J.R. is out, but as far as going in with a different mindset, it's not like I'm going to transform into J.R. for the team," he said. "It just doesn't go like that. You just got to sort of do your part."

(4/27/2015) Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert delivered a big performance in his team's 101-93 Game 4 win over the Celtics Sunday, scoring 15 points on 3 of 4 shooting from the field and 8 of 8 shooting from the free-throw line while racking up 10 rebounds.

"Iman Shumpert gave us a huge game tonight, huge," coach David Blatt said after the game, per the Akron Beacon Journal. "He was just all over the court. … He was without question the X factor. No question."

Shumpert also recorded three blocks and two steals while playing 38 minutes, which matched his highest amount of playing time in the regular season.

(4/1/2015) After experiencing back pain which caused him to leave Sunday's contest, Cavaliers forward Kevin Love said his back is feeling good, reports the Associated Press.

With the Cavaliers having three days in between games, Love said the last two days off allowed him to rest and he was able to practice Wednesday, reports Cleveland.com. Despite feeling better, Love is considered a game-time decision for Thursday's game against the Heat, reports The News-Herald.

In addition to Love, guard Iman Shumpert was also able to practice Wednesday and coach David Blatt said Shumpert will be available to play Thursday. Shumpert is dealing with an ankle injury, which he suffered during Sunday's game.
