Brown chips in off bench


(4/3/2012) Bobcats forward Derrick Brown was able to get his scoring back into double figures during Tuesday night's contest against the Raptors. Brown finished with 12 points in the 92-87 defeat, on 5 of 7 shooting from the field. He made both of his free-throw attempts and also added six rebounds, two assists and one steal to his stat line, while logging 28 minutes of game action.

Brown finished second on the team in scoring over 28 minutes on the court, but did it with flare as he went a perfect 10 of 10 from the field. Coincidentally, Brown missed his only free throw attempt. Brown grabbed four rebounds and had two assists in the losing effort for the Bobcats.

(2/2/2012) A closer look at the box score in Charlotte's disappointing 112-68 blowout loss to the Trail Blazers on Wednesday shows that Bobcats forward Derrick Brown scored in double figures for the sixth time in seven games. Brown went 6 of 13 from the field as he finished with 12 points. He added four rebounds. Brown is averaging 10.7 points in his last seven games.

Silas confident in Brown


(1/17/2012) Charlotte can't seem to find the right mix of players or lineup, but coach Paul Silas has confidence in his players. With Corey Maggette missing time with a strained hamstring, one player that has benefited from minutes has been forward Derrick Brown. “(Derrick) Brown has taken advantage of it, and it’ll help him in the long run,” Silas said. “I think it’ll help our team in the long run.” Brown saw 14 minutes on Tuesday as he came off the bench against the Magic. He shot 2 for 5 from the field, finishing with four points. He also chipped in two boards, an assist and a steal. Charlotte would lose to Orlando, 96-89.

(1/12/2012) After starting two games for the injured Corey Maggette and Tyrus Thomas, Bobcats F Derrick Brown found himself back on the bench to start Thursday night’s matchup with the Hawks. Brown would play 17 minutes in the 111-81 Bobcats loss, scoring six points on three-of-four shooting with two rebounds and two assists.

Brown made both his shots from the floor, finishing with four points. But he was limited to just 17 minutes. Brown started in place of Corey Maggette, who sat the game out but is still expected to start this season. Brown played a nice game, however, as he shot 4 of 6 from the field over 25 minutes. Brown recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds and he added an assist.

(12/9/2011) The Bobcats re-signed restricted free agent Derrick Brown to a one-year deal on Friday. Terms of the deal were not released. Brown played the majority of his two NBA seasons with Charlotte prior to being waived late last season. Coach Paul Silas said he views Brown as a backup small forward and looks forward to getting him on the floor on Saturday. The Bobcats only had nine players at their first practice Friday night.

Brown missed his one shot attempt and played only six minutes for Charlotte, which was playing its second game without injured forward Tyrus Thomas. Brown added a rebound and assist.
