SG Danny Green intrigued by meeting with Knicks

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11:47 am ET) The Knicks have expressed an interest in speaking with free agent shooting guard Danny Green - and now it has become obvious the feeling is mutual.

Green, who is a Long Island native, is intrigued by a possible meeting with Phil Jackson and Derek Fisher.

"For sure - anybody turning down a meeting with them would be crazy," he told ESPN Radio. "It starts with them and (Knicks standout Carmelo Anthony) as well."

The team is desperate for a shooting guard and could offer about $12 million a year. A source told the New York Post that Green is leaning toward remaining with the Spurs.

Green has fit in perfectly with the Gregg Popovich offensive system since 2011. He averaged a career-high 11.7 points a game last season.

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(6/29/2015) The Knicks hope to meet with Spurs free agent shooting guard Danny Green, according to a report by the New York Post.

That meeting won't take place at the start of free agency, however, because Green is reportedly in Brazil.

The Spurs are also going to make a strong push to retain Green.

Spurs' F Danny Green eager to remain with the team

by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(5/4/2015) Forward Danny Green, who will become a free agent on July 1, wants to remain with the Spurs and hopes the team can find a way to retain most of the 10 free agents on its roster, per the San Antonio Express-News

Green finished with a career-high 11.7 points this season and set the Spurs' single-season record for 3-pointers.

"I love San Antonio. The fans have always supported us, from day one," Green said. "It sucks that we had such a special group, and things may be changing and not be the same again."

Danny Green becomes Spurs' single-season 3-point record holder in win

by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(4/12/2015) Spurs forward Danny Green connected for three 3-pointers Sunday to reach 191 and become the franchise's single-season record holder.

Chuck Person held the mark for 20 years before Green overtook him.

Green finished with 12 points Sunday in the Spurs' win over the Suns.

Spurs guard Danny Green does it all in win Wednesday

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(3/18/2015) Spurs guard Danny Green scored a team-high 20 points on 7 of 16 shooting from the field, including 2 of 4 from 3-point range, in San Antonio's 114-103 win over the Bucks Wednesday.

Green helped in nearly every facet of the game, pulling down eight rebounds, dishing out four assists and adding two steals to his totals. It was just Green's second 20-plus point performance in his last five games.

Spurs' Jarell Eddie following Danny Green career path

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(3/4/2015) Austin Spurs forward Jarell Eddie is modeling his career patch on current Spurs guard Danny Green, Spurs.com reports.

"I look at the way Danny rose up in the Spurs organization, and the way he can knock down shots, but also does the little things," Eddie said last week. "I look at him, and I know what I have to do to make it myself."

Eddie has made 42.2 percent of his three-point attempts and won the NBA Development League Three-Point Contest in February.

"Shooting’s a premium at the NBA level," Eddie said. "With the release that I have and the size that I have, I’ve always had the mindset the I’m an NBA player. Now, it's clear that if you keep working in the D-League, someone will spot you."

Green indicated that the intangibles picked up in the NBADL have helped him make a leap.

"It lights a fire under you to see what it really takes to make it to the NBA," Green said. "So you spend that extra time picking up things defensively. I feel like I’m the guy they look at a lot of times because I just worked really hard and can shoot the ball. Us D-League guys didn’t have the easiest path, but it’s a path that’s worth taking."

Spurs' Danny Green: 'We're not the happy fun team we were last year'

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(2/25/2015) With the Spurs not nearly as competitive as they were last season when they were the No. 1 overall seed in the playoffs, guard Danny Green said the team may not achieve the level of play they reached last season, reports the San Antonio Express-News.

"Last year was a totally different year," Green said. "It's hard to replicate that. It might not come back to us, the way we were playing last year. We're trying to get as close to it as possible."

The Spurs are currently the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference at 34-22. With the Thunder only 2 1/2 games back, Green said the team is feeling the pressure to step up their play.

"We're all getting on each other, Pop's getting on us, and it's hard to play basketball when we're not the happy fun team we were last year," Green said.

The Spurs have won four of their last five games heading into the All-Star break.

Heavy minutes taking toll on Spurs forward Danny Green

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(1/28/2015) Spurs forward Danny Green is averaging a career-high 30.1 minutes per game, but he admits the extra playing time has taken a toll on his energy level, reports the San Antonio Express-News.

"Some days the energy is there," Green said. "Some days, you're fighting to find it."

With the Spurs dealing with a variety of injuries earlier this season, Green said he didn't have a choice, but to play.

"Right now is the healthiest we've been," Green said. "There are times we could have sat some guys, but we couldn't afford it. If you were healthy enough to play, you had to play."

Green has gone four consecutive games without scoring at least 10 points, but he said the ups and downs are part of the season.

"You can't lose confidence and change your game," Green said. "You have to stick with it, and hopefully the worm will turn."
