Gerald Henderson goes under the knife

(5/31/2014) Hornets guard Gerald Henderson underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his right wrist to remove scar tissue last week, the team announced. He is expected to be shut down for approximately two weeks before he begins the rehabilitation process.

Henderson made 77 starts for Charlotte last season, averaging 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 32.0 minutes per game.

(3/22/2014) Bobcats guard Gerald Henderson played a big part in the team's blowout win over the Trail Blazers Saturday, recording 20-plus points for the first time in more than a month.

Henderson was extremely efficient in the 124-94 win, scoring 23 points on 8 of 11 shooting. He nailed both of his three-point tries, and also went 5 for 5 from the free-throw line, while adding eight rebounds and five assists in 29 minutes.

Henderson is averaging 14.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game since returning from a calf injury that cost him five games earlier in the month.

(3/13/2014) Bobcats guard Gerald Henderson looked like some time off did him good, as he played well in a 98-95 win over the Wizards Wednesday.

After missing the team's previous five games with a calf strain, Henderson was eased back into action by playing 27 minutes. He still ended up scoring 13 points on 6 of 9 shooting, his best scoring total in more than a month. He added one rebound and two steals to his total in the win.

Henderson had been in a bit of a slump prior to his injury, averaging a season-low 11.9 points per game in the month of February.

(3/12/2014) Bobcats guard Gerald Henderson expressed optimism about his chances of returning after practicing Tuesday, and he is indeed expected back on the floor Wednesday against the Wizards. Coach Steve Clifford confirmed Henderson will be in the starting lineup for that evening's game, after he missed five games with a strained right calf.

(3/11/2014) Bobcats guard Gerald Henderson has missed the team's last five games with a strained right calf, but was able to practice Tuesday and feels good about his chances of returning soon.

"I feel good," Henderson told the Charlotte Observer. "It's tough having to be out in that stretch. But I wanted to get myself back to 100 percent and not have that calf bother me the rest of the season. I feel good and I’m ready to go."

Henderson expects to play Wednesday against the Wizards, and coach Steve Clifford said he will start Henderson if he avoids any setbacks.

(3/10/2014) Bobcats guard Gerald Henderson is still not ready to return, the team announced. He was ruled out for Monday's contest against the Nuggets because of a strained right calf. He has missed five straight games with the injury.

Henderson is averaging just 9.6 points per game in his last five appearances. Head coach Steve Clifford told the press that the goal will be to have Henderson practice on Tuesday in hopes of having him play Wednesday against Washington.

Henderson has been held to single digit scoring in three of his past four games. He is averaging 14.6 points, 4.1 assists and 2.6 rebounds over his last five games played. He'll look to return Wednesday against the Pacers.

(2/22/2014) Bobcats guard Gerald Henderson is stuck in a bit of a slump, as he scored in single digits for the third time in five games Saturday against the Grizzlies.

Henderson did not shoot the ball poorly in the game, but still finished with just nine points on 4 of 9 shooting. He did little else to make up for his subpar scoring as well, finishing with just five rebounds and one assists in 30 minutes in the 92-89 win.

Henderson is averaging just 9.2 points per game over the last five, largely due to a lack of free throws. He is shooting just 61.5 percent on 2.6 attempts per game over the last five, well below his season average of 4.5 attempts per game.

(1/30/2014) Bobcats guard Gerald Henderson struggled to get his shots to fall Wednesday, but found other ways to be productive in a 101-98 win over the Nuggets.

Henderson scored 16 points, but shot just 6 of 17 from the field on his way there. Fortunately, he filled up the box score in other ways, adding eight rebounds and five assists in 35 minutes, while turning the ball over just once.

Henderson has remained consistent with his production for the third season in a row, as he is averaging 15.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game on the season. His numbers from the previous two seasons are nearly identical.

Henderson has stuck very close to his 15.0 points per game on the season, as he’s only eclipsed 20 points six times this year. He’s also averaging 4.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists on the season.

(11/5/2013) Bobcats starting guard Gerald Henderson scored 18 points Tuesday during a 102-97 win over the Knicks. Henderson shot 5 of 13 from the field.

Henderson hit the only 3-pointer he attempted in the game as he grabbed eight boards and handed out two assists. He also chipped in with two steals over 35 minutes.

This was Henderson's best scoring output of the season for Charlotte. Really, it was his best all-around game and first real solid contribution.

The team did not announce the contract details, but it is believed to be worth $18 million over the life of the deal. Henderson had a career season in 2012-13, averaging 15.5 points and 2.6 assists per game.
