Hornets' Lance Stephenson most likely out through Christmas

(12/20/2014) Hornets coach Steve Clifford told reporters Saturday guard Lance Stephenson will most likely be out through Christmas.

Stephenson is dealing with a pelvis sprain and he would miss the Hornets’ next three games if he doesn't play until after Christmas. His first opportunity to play after Christmas would be Dec. 26 at Oklahoma City.

Guard Gerald Henderson replaced Stephenson in the starting lineup during Friday’s win over the 76ers and scored 11 points and dished out four assists in 32 minutes.

Kidd-Gilchrist suffered the injury when he fell hard in Sunday's loss to the Knicks.

(10/22/2014) In a switch of plans, Hornets shooting guard Gerald Henderson has ruled himself out for the Thursday preseason game against Indiana with a hamstring strain that has prevented him from playing through most of October.

Henderson had considered playing Thursday and participating in a scrimmage Saturday. It remains to be seen when he does return to action. Charlotte opens in regular season on Oct. 29 against visiting Milwaukee.

(10/1/2014) Hornets coach Steve Clifford said Monday he plans to start Marvin Williams at power forward ahead of Cody Zeller and Lance Stephenson will start at either small forward or shooting guard, according to the Charlotte Observer.

With center Al Jefferson and point guard Kemba Walker also securing spots in the starting lineup, the final spot will come down to shooting guard Gerald Henderson or small forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.

Clifford is really excited about the potential Stephenson brings to the lineup.

"I’ve been around Kobe (Bryant) and (Tracy) McGrady and (Latrell) Sprewell in his prime. Lance isn’t there yet," Clifford said. "Lance was 13 1/2 (ppg.) last year. He’s young and talented. His efficiency shooting the ball, getting his turnovers down (need to improve). For us to talk about him as a legitimate All-Star player who we can play through, that’s the jump he needs to make and he knows that."

(5/31/2014) Hornets guard Gerald Henderson underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his right wrist to remove scar tissue last week, the team announced. He is expected to be shut down for approximately two weeks before he begins the rehabilitation process.

Henderson made 77 starts for Charlotte last season, averaging 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 32.0 minutes per game.

(3/22/2014) Bobcats guard Gerald Henderson played a big part in the team's blowout win over the Trail Blazers Saturday, recording 20-plus points for the first time in more than a month.

Henderson was extremely efficient in the 124-94 win, scoring 23 points on 8 of 11 shooting. He nailed both of his three-point tries, and also went 5 for 5 from the free-throw line, while adding eight rebounds and five assists in 29 minutes.

Henderson is averaging 14.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game since returning from a calf injury that cost him five games earlier in the month.

(3/13/2014) Bobcats guard Gerald Henderson looked like some time off did him good, as he played well in a 98-95 win over the Wizards Wednesday.

After missing the team's previous five games with a calf strain, Henderson was eased back into action by playing 27 minutes. He still ended up scoring 13 points on 6 of 9 shooting, his best scoring total in more than a month. He added one rebound and two steals to his total in the win.

Henderson had been in a bit of a slump prior to his injury, averaging a season-low 11.9 points per game in the month of February.

"I feel good," Henderson told the Charlotte Observer. "It's tough having to be out in that stretch. But I wanted to get myself back to 100 percent and not have that calf bother me the rest of the season. I feel good and I’m ready to go."

Henderson is averaging just 9.6 points per game in his last five appearances. Head coach Steve Clifford told the press that the goal will be to have Henderson practice on Tuesday in hopes of having him play Wednesday against Washington.

(2/22/2014) Bobcats guard Gerald Henderson is stuck in a bit of a slump, as he scored in single digits for the third time in five games Saturday against the Grizzlies.

Henderson did not shoot the ball poorly in the game, but still finished with just nine points on 4 of 9 shooting. He did little else to make up for his subpar scoring as well, finishing with just five rebounds and one assists in 30 minutes in the 92-89 win.

Henderson is averaging just 9.2 points per game over the last five, largely due to a lack of free throws. He is shooting just 61.5 percent on 2.6 attempts per game over the last five, well below his season average of 4.5 attempts per game.

Henderson scored 16 points, but shot just 6 of 17 from the field on his way there. Fortunately, he filled up the box score in other ways, adding eight rebounds and five assists in 35 minutes, while turning the ball over just once.

Henderson has remained consistent with his production for the third season in a row, as he is averaging 15.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game on the season. His numbers from the previous two seasons are nearly identical.

It was the most shots Henderson has taken in a game since going 11 for 23 and scoring 24 points on Dec. 9. He also recorded seven rebounds and one assist in 35 minutes of action. Henderson has averaged 15.4 points and 4.4 rebounds over 36 games played.
