Raptors' DeMar DeRozan getting more comfortable after injury

(1/27/2015) Raptors shooting guard DeMar DeRozan is starting to turn the corner. After missing nearly a month and a half with a groin injury, DeRozan has scored over 20 points in five of his eight games, including Tuesday against the Pacers.

DeRozan went for 24 points on 7 of 15 shooting, including 10 of 13 from the free throw line, in Toronto's 104-91 win.

"I'm getting more comfortable every single day," DeRozan said. "Just getting back to used to playing the game I'm accustomed to playing."

DeRozan shot 7-18 from the field, including one from beyond the arc. He hit seven of his nine free throws. DeRozan also added three rebounds and one assist.

(1/16/2015) Raptors shooting guard DeMar DeRozan scored a team-high 25 points on 11 of 18 shooting in his team's 110-89 loss to the Hawks Friday.

DeRozan has scored 45 points on 20 of 32 shooting in two games since returning from a late-November groin injury, helping to erase from memory his 0-for-8 shooting performance in the game in which he was injured. He also delivered three rebounds, two assists and two steals in 32 minutes. The Raptors will look to bounce back Sunday against the Pelicans.

(1/15/2015) After playing 29 minutes during Wednesday's win over the 76ers, Raptors coach Dwane Casey told reporters he expects forward DeMar DeRozan to play a similar amount of minutes during Friday’s game against Hawks, reports the National Post.

DeRozan had been out since injuring his groin in late November. He scored 20 points Wednesday in his first game since suffering the injury.

DeRozan played 29 minutes in his first game back and logged a plus-18 in his time on the court. He also kicked in four rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal. DeRozan faces a tougher test in his next matchup, as the Raptors will take on a well-rested Hawks starting lineup Friday.

DeRozan has not played since late November after tearing his groin. He will return to the starting lineup, while James Johnson will come off the bench. The Raptors went 12-9 during DeRozan's absence.

DeRozan remains without a timetable as he is still recovering from a tear in his groin he suffered at the end of November. Casey said DeRozan’s return could be further off than was planned.

DeRozan, who is averaging 19.4 points and 4.2 rebounds in 16 games this season, was expected to be ready to play this week. He has missed the Raptors’ last 18 games.

(1/7/2015) Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan told reporters Wednesday he will not play in Thursday’s game against the Hornets, reports TSN.ca.

While his injured groin has healed, DeRozan said he would like to get his conditioning back up before he appears in a game.

"I owe that to [my teammates] not to just jump back into the game," DeRozan said. "I want to get a couple more practices in."

In 16 games, DeRozan is averaging 19.4 points and 4.2 rebounds. He last played Nov. 28.

DeRozan has not played since November 28 due to a groin strain. It was the first time he was able to get through practice since the injury. He's likely to return at some point during the team's upcoming home stand. The team is set to begin the next homestand January 8.

DeRozan injured himself while falling on the court. He was in obvious pain, and eventually went to the locker room with team trainers. The team announced DeRozan left with a strained left groin. He will not return to the contest.

DeRozan played a team-high 38 minuts in the win, which pushed the Raptors to 9-2 on the season. His 22 shots taken represented his highest shot total in his last six games, and he managed to kick in five rebounds, four assists and two steals. The Raptors will look to stay hot Friday against the Bucks.

DeRozan delivered a 26-point performance Saturday and upped his game just one day later, sinking 50 percent of his shots in both games of the back-to-back. He added four steals, three rebounds and one assist in 40 minutes of action Sunday. DeRozan and the Raptors are set to face the Thunder Tuesday.

Lowry scored 21 points on 5 of 12 shooting from the field, including 2 of 5 from downtown, and 9 of 11 from the free throw line. He added five assists, three rebounds and one steal while logging 33 minutes of game action.

DeRozan led the way with 26 points on 9 of 18 shooting, and 8 of 10 from the charity stripe. He chipped in with eight rebounds, one assist and one steal while logging 30 minutes of a 108-95 victory.

Both players combined for 21 of Toronto's 48 attempts from the free throw line.

''It's not just me being aggressive at getting to the free throw line, it's all of us,'' said DeRozan, per the Associated Press. ''If we get teams in the penalty situation early and take advantage of it, that plays a big part of us being successful.''

(10/29/2014) Raptors shooting guard DeMar DeRozan scored 15 points on just 4 of 16 shooting while grabbing 11 rebounds and recording five steals in his team's 109-102 win over the Hawks in Wednesday's regular-season opener.

DeRozan played a team-high 35 minutes in the win while also tallying three assists and turning the ball over five times. He should have plenty more scoring power in the weeks to come after dealing with an off shooting night Wednesday. The Raptors will take on the Magic Saturday.
