Byron Scott: Lakers 'absolutely' considering re-signing Wayne Ellington

(3/21/2015) Lakers shooting guard Wayne Ellington may have worked his way into the team's long-range plans. 

Ellington was on the fifth team of his six-year NBA career when the Lakers signed him at the start of the season. He missed time early after his father was murdered in early November, but on the court, this has been one of the most successful seasons of Ellington's career.

Ellington has started 33 games, two shy of his career total prior to this season. His 9.7 point scoring average is the second highest of his career. 

Lakers coach Byron Scott praised Ellington's improved shooting and defense and said the team would "asolutely" consider re-signing him for next year, per Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News

“He made himself a valuable part of this team,” Scott said. “We don’t know what next year holds. But he has shown 30 teams he knows how to play the game.”

It will be the seventh straight game Young has missed while dealing with a swollen left knee. Guard Wayne Ellington has seen his minutes increase with Young sidelined.

The Lakers are 7-point underdogs.

(3/7/2015) Wayne Ellington scored 14 points in the Lakers' 97-90 loss to the Grizzlies on Friday. 

Ellington hit six-of-13 from the field, including both 3-pointers he attempted. He added three rebounds and four assists. Ellington scored 10 of his points in the second half. 

The Lakers next host the Mavericks on Sunday.

It will be the fourth straight game Young has missed while dealing with a knee issue. Guard Wayne Ellington will start in place of Young.

Young's next opportunity to play will be Wednesday at Miami, but coach Byron Scott was skeptical over Young's availability for the game, reports the Los Angeles Daily News. Young said he is expecting to return for Sunday's game against the Mavericks.

Young has missed the last three games with a swollen left knee. In 42 games, Young is averaging 13.4 points and 2.3 rebounds. Guard Wayne Ellington has seen his playing time increase with Young sidelined.

Young has been dealing a sore knee and coach Byron Scott said it's still bothering Young.

"Still a little sore, so he won't go [Wednesday]," Scott said. "Still a little swelling."

Guards Wayne Ellington and Jeremy Lin should see an increase in minutes with Young out.

It is not know if the stomach issues will impact Ellington's status for Friday’s game against the Nets. In 44 games, Ellington is averaging 9.3 points and 3.1 rebounds.

(8/6/2014) The Knicks and Kings pulled off a minor trade involving four players Thursday, USA Today reports.

The Kings will acquire guard Wayne Ellington and forward Jeremy Tyler in exchange for forwards Quincy Acy and Travis Outlaw, according to the report. The Kings will also receive a second-round pick in the 2016 draft.

The Kings are likely to waive Tyler, according to the report, and might not keep Ellington around for long either. The Knicks have opted to guarantee the $915,000 salary for Acy next season, while Outlaw enters the final season of a contract that will pay him $3 million for 2014-15.

(6/25/2014) The other half of a trade that would send Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton to Dallas includes guards Jose CalderonWayne Ellington and Shane Larkin as well as center Samuel Dalembert going to the Knicks, ESPN reports.

With the Knicks looking to rebuild, Larkin is an asset that a cash-strapped and mostly draft pick-less New York team would value highly. Calderon reinvented himself as a spot-up shooter for the Mavericks last season, finishing the year with a career-best 191 made three pointers. Dalembert only managed to give the Mavericks 6.6 points in 20 minutes per game last season. Ellington couldn't crack the Dallas rotation to log meaningful stats.
