Rockets' James Harden suspended one game for LeBron James kick

(3/2/2015) The NBA suspended Rockets SG James Harden one game for an incident in Sunday's overtime win over the Cavaliers. 

With 2:08 remaining in the third quarter, LeBron James tried to strip the ball from Harden. In the fight for the ball, Harden was knocked to the floor. He then lifted his foot and kicked James in the groin. 

Referees issued Harden a flagrant foul for the kick. The league has suspended him, without pay, for Tuesday's game at the Hawks. 


James Harden added to Rockets' injury report with shoulder

(3/2/2015) Rockets SG and MVP candidate James Harden has been added to the team's injury report for Tuesday's game at the Hawks. 

Harden is suffering from a bruised left shoulder. He's listed as probable for the game.  

Harden, a southpaw shooter, is averaging 27.1 points, 6.9 assists and 5.8 rebounds this season. 


James Harden posts MVP performance in Rockets OT win

(3/1/2015) James Harden showed why he's a top contender for the NBA MVP award this season in the Rockets' 105-103 overtime win over the Cavaliers, on Sunday.

Harden scored 33 points with eight rebounds and five assists. He also had three steals and a pair of blocked shots. 

Harden shot eight-of-18 from the field and hit 15-of-18 from the free throw line. He also picked up a flagrant foul late in the third quarter for kicking LeBron James. 

"Obviously it was not a basketball play, and obviously, the league will take a look at it," James said. "I don't know what he was thinking." 

The Rockets next play at the Hawks on Tuesday. 


James Harden gets third straight double-double for Rockets

(2/28/2015) The Rockets weren't sure if James Harden was going to be able to play. He ended up recording a double-double in a 102-98 win over the Nets on Friday. 

Harden missed practice with a sore ankle, but he was able to avoid missing his first game of the season.

''The beauty of this team is that we've been good battling adversity all year,'' Harden said.

He ended up scoring 15 points and dishing out 12 assists to record his third straight double-double. That's a career-high for Harden. 

Harden hit a free throw with 43 seconds left to put the Rockets on top to stay. 

The Rockets next host the Cavaliers on Sunday.


Rockets' Patrick Beverley, James Harden expected to start on Friday

(2/27/2015) Rockets coach Kevin McHale said that he believes both SG James Harden and PG Patrick Beverley will play on Friday. 

Harden was questionable with a sprained right ankle, and Beverley was questionable, suffering from flu-like symptoms.

Assuming neither has a setback before game time, McHale expects both Beverley and Harden to start. Harden isn't under any type of minutes restriction, but McHale will keep an eye on him and adjust his playing time if Harden appears to be in pain. 

The Rockets are seven-point favorites at home against the Nets. 


Rockets' Harden participates in shootaround, still questionable Friday

(2/27/2015) Rockets shooting guard James Harden was able to participate in shootaround Friday, but is still considered questionable for the team's matchup with the Nets, the team has announced.

Harden spent Thursday resting his sprained left ankle and was held out of practice. The league's leading scorer at 27.2 points per game has not missed any games with the injury.

The Rockets are currently 6 1/2-point favorites Friday.

(2/26/2015) Rockets shooting guard James Harden sat out Thursday's practice due to a sprained left ankle, the Houston Chronicle reports.

"He’s swollen today and he’s sore today," coach Kevin McHale said. "I’ll see how he feels. He didn’t do anything today. He just iced it. We’ll see what 24 hours does."

Harden, who injured the ankle while stepping on an opposing player's foot in the fourth quarter of Wednesday's game, is listed as questionable to play Friday. He has averaged 27.2 points, 6.9 assists, 5.8 rebounds and 1.9 steals in 57 games.

The Rockets are 9-point favorites at home against the Nets Friday.

(2/26/2015) Citing a sprained ankle, the Rockets listed guard James Harden as questionable for Friday's game against the Nets, reports The Houston Chronicle.

Harden sprained his right ankle during Wednesday's win over the Clippers when he was driving to the basket. Harden was seen limping after the game, but was hoping to play Friday. In 57 games, Harden is averaging 27.2 points and 6.9 assists.

(2/25/2015) Rockets guard James Harden posted a double-double on Wednesday against the Clippers.

Harden had a tough game shooting, hitting 4-13 shots from the field. He went just 3-9 from beyond the arc. Harden was able to make up for his struggles by sinking 10-12 free throws. He finished with 21 points. While Harden didn't shoot all that well, he made sure to involve his teammates. Harden dished out 10 assists during the contest, finishing with a double-double. 

Harden appeared to injure his ankle during the game, but managed to play through it. He was spotted limping to the locker room once the game was over, but indicated that he was hoping to play on Friday.

(2/23/2015) Rockets shooting guard James Harden scored 31 points on 7 of 20 shooting from the field, including 5 of 11 from 3-point range, in Houston's 113-102 win over the Timberwolves Monday.

Harden grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out 10 assists, leading to his second triple-double of the season. It was his first double digit assist game in over a month and first double digit rebound game in his last five games. He added four blocks to his totals.

(2/20/2015) Rockets shooting guard James Harden scored 26 points on 6 of 14 shooting from the field and 11 of 13 shooting from the free throw line in Houston's 111-100 loss to the Mavericks Friday.

Despite taking a hard fall on a drive during the game, Harden stayed in after grabbing at his wrist with an apparent injury. However, he was able to shake it off and stay in, grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out five assists on the night. 

"His wrist was wrapped when he was bleeding," coach Kevin McHale said after the game. "He's got a little cut. Hey, he went out there and played." 


Warriors' Thompson, Rockets' Harden named All-Star starters

(2/11/2015) Warriors coach Steve Kerr said Wednesday that both Rockets shooting guard James Harden and Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson would join the starting lineup for the Western Conference in Sunday's All-Star Game, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Kerr has opted to start the game with a three-guard lineup, with Harden and Thompson joining Warriors point guard Stephen Curry, Pelicans power forward Anthony Davis and Grizzlies center Marc Gasol in the tentative starting five. Both Lakers guard Kobe Bryant and Clippers power forward Blake Griffin will not play in the All-Star Game due to injuries after being voted as starters for the Western Conference squad.


Rockets' James Harden explodes for 40-12-9 stat line in win Tuesday

(2/10/2015) Rockets shooting guard James Harden scored 40 points on 13 of 23 shooting from the field and 11 of 14 from the free throw line in Houston's 127-118 win over the Suns Tuesday.

Harden also grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out nine assists in the victory. It was Harden's 12th double-double of the season and first in his last eight games. He narrowly missed his second triple-double of the season.

Despite a brief elbow injury scare, Harden bounced back quickly and added three steals and one block to his totals.

"I went to the basket pretty hard and all my weight went on my elbow," Harden said. "But I'm all right. It went numb right away and I had some pain but I got the feeling back right away."

Suns guard Eric Bledsoe said after the game he should be an MVP candidate.

"He made all the tough plays for his team, like all great players do," Bledsoe said. "You know, he's in the running for MVP and he should be up there."

(2/8/2015) Rockets shooting guard James Harden scored 45 points on 11 of 25 shooting from the field, including 19 of 23 from the free throw line, in Houston's 109-98 loss to the Trail Blazers.

Harden also added nine rebounds and eight assists in the contest. It was the fourth time this season Harden has scored over 40 points in a game. He is averaging 32.8 points in his last four games.

(2/7/2015) Rockets shooting guard James Harden is on pace to join Michael Jordan (1988-89) and LeBron James (2004-05) as the only players since 1973-74 to average at least 27.0 points, 6.5 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals in a season, the Houston Chronicle reports.

"He’s been fantastic," Rockets coach Kevin McHale said. "He comes to us and he’s trying to figure out how to be a No. 1 option, carry a team, get everyone involved. On our team, he does most of the playmaking, too. He has the ball a lot. We ask him to do a lot. We ask him to do probably too much. I wish we had some guys to alleviate some pressure from him. But he’s been fantastic."

In 50 games, Harden has averaged 27.1 points, 6.7 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals. Since steals began being tracked in 1973-74,  only five different players have averaged as much as 25 points, six assists, five rebounds and two steals in one season: Jordan (three times), Rick Barry (twice), James, Larry Bird and Dwyane Wade.

Harden, who also went 12 of 17 from the free throw line, scored over 30 points for the first time in his last five games. He added five assists and three rebounds in the contest. 

"They brought double-teams to half-court to me," Harden said with a chuckle. "So I just made the easy play, and had trust in my teammates to make connections."

Harden (right knee contusion) and Jones (left leg nerve inflammation) were both able to play this past Wednesday against the Bulls, a 101-90 victory.

Dwight Howard, expected to miss some time in the coming weeks, is out due to a right knee edema.


NBA announces contestants for AS three-point competition

(2/5/2015) On Thursday, the NBA announced the participants in the three-point contest to be held during All-Star Weekend.

The players scheduled to compete in the event are Warriors guards Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, Rockets guard James Harden, Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving, Hawks guard Kyle Korver, Clippers guard J.J. Redick, Spurs guard Marco Belinelli and Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews.

The competition will take place Feb. 14 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Harden took a couple of days off to rest his knee and the rest paid off Wednesday. He shot 9 of 20 from the field, including 3 of 5 from 3-point range. He also added three rebounds, four assists, one steal and two blocks.

(2/3/2015) Rockets guard James Harden told reporters he's felling better after rest and treatment and ready for Wednesday's game against the Bulls, per the Houston Chronicle. The team has officially listed Harden as probable for the game.

"I felt pretty good after a couple days of rest and treatment, icing really helped out so I should be ready for tomorrow," Harden said.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Harden (knee) and Jones (nerve inflammation) are probable to play. Harden was spotted at practice though it's unclear how much he participated.

Harden is averaging 27 points per game this season. Jones is posting 10.9 each outing.

Both will be needed as the Rockets prepare for an upcoming stretch of games without center Dwight Howard, who is dealing with swelling in his right knee.

(1/31/2015) Rockets shooting guard James Harden scored a team-high 26 points on 10 of 17 shooting, including 2 of 4 shooting from behind the arc, in his team's 114-101 loss to the Pistons Saturday.

Harden went down with a bruised knee in the first half and managed just five points heading into halftime, but he was able to return to being the second half and deliver an excellent performance in the loss. He just missed a double-double, racking up nine assists, seven rebounds, two steals and one block in 36 minutes. Provided the knee issue doesn't turn out to be a serious injury, he's set to face the Bulls Wednesday.

(1/31/2015) Rockets shooting guard James Harden suffered a bruised left knee in the first half of Saturday's game against the Pistons but was able to return to start the second half.

Harden saw just 14 minutes of action in the first half before exiting with the injury. He scored five points on 2 of 4 shooting at halftime.


NBA All-Star reserves selected

(1/29/2015) The reserves for both the Eastern Conference and Western Conference All-Star squads were announced Thursday.

In the East, Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving, Bulls guard Jimmy Butler, Heat guard Dwyane Wade, Hawks guard Jeff Teague, Hawks forward Paul Millsap, Heat forward Chris Bosh and Hawks center Al Horford were selected to the All-Star team.

In the West, Rockets guard James Harden, Warriors guard Klay Thompson, Thunder guard Russell Westbrook, Clippers guard Chris Paul, Thunder forward Kevin Durant, Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge and Spurs forward Tim Duncan were named All-Star reserves.

The 2015 NBA All-Star Game will be played in New York City's Madison Square Garden on Feb. 15.
