Houston to have Harden, Howard and Ariza active against Portland

(6:26 pm ET) Rockets center Dwight Howard, guard James Harden and forward Trevor Ariza are all active for Monday's game against the Trail Blazers, coach Kevin McHale told reporters pregame.

All three were listed as probable heading into the contest.

The Rockets are 3 1/2-point favorites against the Trail Blazers in Houston Monday.

Howard played through the sore shoulder Saturday and saw 42 minutes of action while posting his fourth straight double-double. Harden strained his hamstring in Saturday's game but was able to return.

Harden scored 18 points on 5 of 16 shooting from the floor, including 2 of 7 from downtown and a perfect 6 of 6 from the charity stripe. He also added six rebounds, one block and one steal while logging 39 minutes of game action.

He is averaging 29.6 points, 9.4 assists and 6.2 rebounds over his last five games.

(12/20/2014) Rockets shooting guard James Harden suffered a hamstring strain in Saturday's game against the Hawks but has returned to the game, the team announced.

Harden scored just four points, all on free throws, while going 0 for 3 from the field in 12 minutes before exiting with the injury. He was initially reported as unlikely to return, but the shooting guard was able to retake the floor in the second quarter of the game.

Harden delivered a triple-double against the Nuggets Saturday and came right back with another huge performance Wednesday, topping 40 points for the second time in his last three games. He also chipped in four rebounds and two assists in 45 minutes in the win, which moved the Rockets to 6-1 in December. They'll look to keep rolling Thursday against the Pelicans.

The Rockets took a three-point lead into the fourth quarter but were unable to stop the Warriors from racking up their 14th straight win Wednesday. Harden hit just five of his 21 shots Saturday but was able to bounce back in his next game, sinking more than 50 percent of his shots for the fourth time in his last five games. He also racked up eight rebounds, four assists and four steals in 40 minutes Wednesday. Harden's next matchup comes Thursday against the Kings.

(12/6/2014) Rockets guard James Harden struggled with his shot, but was able to record his fourth double-double of the season to help the Rockets defeat the Suns 100-95 Saturday.

Harden scored 15 points on 5 of 21 shooting including 1 of 9 from 3-point range. Harden tied a career high with 12 rebounds. He also added seven assists, two steals and three blocks. The Rockets are 4-0 when Harden records a double-double.

After the game, Harden told reporters his back was stiff, but he was not concerned with it going forward, reports the Houston Chronicle.

The Rockets next play Wednesday at Golden State.

Harden made 13 of his 14 free-throw attempts in the big scoring effort, and his 64.7 success rate from the field marked his season-best shooting percentage. Aside from the excellent offensive showing, he kicked in six assists and four rebounds while turning the ball over eight times and eventually fouling out. The Rockets take a three-game winning streak into Saturday's matchup with the Suns.

"When we get rolling like that, it’s hard to guard us," Harden said following the win, per the Houston Chronicle.

Harden knocked down 9 of 14 shots from the floor, including 4 of 5 from the free throw line, and 12 of 13 from the free throw line. He also contributed with eight assists, six rebounds, four steals and one block while logging 38 minutes of game action. He has scored 30-plus points six times this season.

Harden's 31 shots eclipsed his previous career high of 28 shots, set late last season, but he suffered from a bout of inaccuracy in the win to fall short of 30 points for the first time in three games. He also managed to fill up his line with eight assists, seven rebounds, three blocks and two steals in 37 minutes. The Rockets take a three-game winning streak into Friday's game against the Clippers.

(11/16/2014) Both the Rockets and Thunder made less than 30 percent of their shots in an ugly affair Sunday, with the Rockets prevailing 69-65 over the Thunder.

The Rockets shot out to a 24-19 lead after one quarter, and neither team was able to score 20 points in any of the remaining three quarters, with the Rockets being held to just nine points in the third frame.

James Harden led the Rockets attack, scoring a team-high 19 points on 5 of 17 shooting, including 2 of 9 shooting from behind the arc, while adding nine rebounds, five assists, one steal and one block in 37 minutes. Patrick Beverley, who was probable to play with a hamstring issue, started at the point and scored 12 points on 4 of 10 shooting, including 2 of 8 shooting from three-point range, in 29 minutes. Tarik Black, who was questionable to play with a leg issue, managed to play 13 minutes, scoring two points on 1 of 3 shooting. The Rockets face the Grizzlies Monday.

Reggie Jackson managed to double up for the Thunder for the second straight game Sunday, sharing the team lead with 15 points on 3 of 11 shooting while grabbing 11 rebounds in 37 minutes. He also managed four assists and a steal after racking up 12 assists in his previous game. The Thunder move on to face the Jazz Tuesday.

(11/14/2014) Rockets shooting guard James Harden matched a season-high with 35 points on 10 of 24 shooting from the field and 14 of 16 shooting from the free-throw line in his team's 88-87 win over the 76ers Friday.

The Rockets found themselves down three points to the winless 76ers with under a minute remaining but Harden sank two free throws and then delivered the game-winner on a layup with just nine seconds left on the clock. He also recorded seven assists, six rebounds, three steals and one block in 41 minutes Friday. The 8-1 Rockets will square off with the Thunder Sunday.

Harden suffered a minor ankle injury in the game but was able to return and finish off the win, playing 40 minutes while adding four rebounds and three assists. It was his third double-double of the season for the 7-1 Rockets. They'll face off with the 76ers Friday.

(11/4/2014) Rockets shooting guard James Harden fell one rebound shy of a triple-double in his team's 108-91 victory over the Heat, snapping Houston's five-game losing streak in Miami.

Harden went 10 of 10 from the free throw line in the first half. It was the second time he's done that in the last three games. He shot 6 of 13, including 3 of 7 from downtown, finishing the game with 25 points, 10 assists, nine rebounds, two blocks and one steal while logging 40 minutes of game action.

The Rockets have 213 points from beyond the arc this season. Following the game, Harden credited the team's success from behind the arc due to the presence of Dwight Howard in the paint.

''You've got the most dominant big man in the league roaming around the rim so somebody has to take him,'' Harden said. ''And then you have tremendous shooters on the wing. It's pretty hard to guard.''

Harden kicked in six assists, one steal and one rebound in his 31 minutes of action as the Rockets jumped out to a 31-19 lead after one quarter and stayed comfortably ahead throughout. He delivered 24 performances of at least 30 points in 73 games last season and is 1-for-1 during the 2014-15 campaign. He'll look for another big night Wednesday against the Jazz.


Rockets to rest James Harden throughout preseason

(10/6/2014) Rockets head coach Kevin McHale told reporters he will rest guard James Harden throughout the preseason, according to the Houston Chronicle. Harden played for Team USA in the FIBA World Cup in the offseason, and the team wants him fully rested and ready to go once the season starts in three weeks.

"We have been giving him time on and off," McHale said. "He worked hard all summer and we want to make sure he gets enough rest before the regular season."
