Pelicans G Jrue Holiday undergoes surgery on leg

(5/6/2015) Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday underwent surgery Wednesday to have a screw removed from his leg, the team announced.

Holiday had the screw removed from a rod, which was previously placed in his lower right leg. He does not have a timetable to return to basketball activities.

(5/6/2015) Two Pelicans underwent procedures Wednesday, per The Advocate.

Included is small forward Quincy Pondexter, who had arthroscopic knee surgery. He is coming off a season in which he averaged 7.2 points in 24 minutes per game.

In addition, point guard Jrue Holiday had a screw removed from his leg. He missed much of the season due to a stress reaction and played in three of the four playoff games against Golden State.

(4/28/2015) While Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday was able to play in Game 3 and 4 against the Warriors, coach Monty Williams said the team is concerned about his injury history, reports The Times-Picayune.

Holiday missed more than 40 games this season because of a lingering stress reaction in his leg. It was his second-consecutive season missing more than half of the games and Williams said Holiday will work with team trainers during the offseason in the hope of improving his health.

Holiday is making his way back from a lingering stress reaction in his leg. He was able to play 21 minutes in Game 1, but he was held out of Game 2 due to the issue. Holiday was considered questionable heading into Game 3.

(4/20/2015) Pelicans guards Tyreke Evans, who suffered a bone bruise on his knee during the team's Game 1 loss, and Jrue Holiday, who continues to feel pain from a stress fracture in his leg will both be a last-minute decisions for Monday's Game 2 against the Warriors, per the New Orleans Times-Picayune. 

Evans will be evaulated Monday to determine if he will be able to run on the leg. He did not practice Sunday. 

"(I will) see how it feels and how the pain level is. I couldn't run full-speed. If you can't run full-speed, you don't want to be out there against this team," the Pelicans second-leading scorer said.

Holiday's minutes have been limited since returning from the injury to limit soreness, and he may be held out of the game as a precaution. 


Pelicans activate Jrue Holiday, place Jeff Withey on inactive list

(4/7/2015) With so few games left in the season, Pelicans coach Monty Williams admits he isn't sure if there will be enough time for guard Jrue Holiday to return this season, reports The Times Picayune.

"I know we don't have as many games left, but my hope is that he can play this year and help us," Williams said. "Even if it's in a limited role. I hate to say day to day. But it does have that kind of feel, especially when you have limited games to go. I still don't know. I hope it's tomorrow."

Holiday has been sidelined since Jan. 12 because of a stress fracture in his lower right leg and Williams said Holiday may not be effective if he returns.

"His [point guard] position, that's a tough position to come back and play effectively after you've been out almost 40 games," Williams said.

Holiday will not play in Tuesday's game and said he is still experiencing soreness in his leg.

(3/24/2015) The Pelicans have been riddled with injuries this season, including the recently hampered Tyreke Evans (ankle) and Omer Asik (calf strain), and currently sit three games, with 12 to play, behind the eighth-place Thunder, leading many to believe that New Orleans won't make the playoffs, according to NBA.com

The Pelicans haven’t been close to full strength since Feb. 21 when both forwards Anthony Davis (ankle) and Ryan Anderson (knee) were sidelined by injuries. 

Although Davis has recently returned to the lineup, Anderson remains out with no timetable to return.

Davis sprained his ankle during a practice on Thursday and will miss his second consecutive game as a result. The Pelicans have also ruled out guard Jrue Holiday (leg) and forward Ryan Anderson (knee).

Coach Monty Williams was unable to provide any further update on Holiday's status.

"He was just out on the floor with Carlos (Daniels Pelicans director of athletic development), nothing practice oriented or in a practice pace," Williams said. "He was just out there shooting a little a bit and bouncing around."
