Ankle keeps Ty Lawson out for finale

(4/16/2014) Nuggets guard Ty Lawson was in uniform for Wednesday's game against the Warriors, but he was unable to play due to an ankle injury that ultimately ended his season.

awson ended up playing just two games in the month of April, missing the season's final six games as a result of this injury. He also dealt with a rib injury earlier and ended up missing 20 games in total, the most of his five-year career.

Despite the injuries, Lawson was terrific when he was able to play, averaging 17.6 points and 8.8 assists per game, both career highs.

(4/16/2014) Nuggets guard Ty Lawson missed his fifth game in a row Tuesday against the Clippers, as he continues to deal with an ankle injury.

With just one game left on the schedule, Wednesday against the Warriors, it seems unlikely Lawson will be able to return this season. The normally durable guard has already missed a career-high 19 games, but has been terrific when able to play, averaging 17.6 points, 8.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game.

(4/14/2014) Nuggets guard Ty Lawson was ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Clippers due to a sprained left ankle, the Denver Post reports. Lawson did not travel with the team and remains in danger of missing the team's season finale on Wednesday, according to the paper.

In 62 games, Lawson is averaging 17.6 points, 8.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

(4/4/2014) Nuggets guard Ty Lawson, who missed a morning meeting and was benched in favor of Aaron Brooks suffered a left ankle sprain Friday night against Memphis.

Lawson sustained the injury late in the fourth quarter and was taken back for X-rays, which came back negative, according to the Denver Post. He was spotted after the game wearing a walking boot.

"It's a normal sprain, but this is probably the worst one I've had," he told the paper after the game.

Lawson finished with 16 points, three assists, one rebound and two steals in 32 minutes of game action. His status remains up in the air for Sunday's contest against the Rockets.

(4/4/2014) Nuggets guard Ty Lawson missed the team’s breakfast meeting this morning and will not start Friday night against Memphis, head coach Brian Shaw told NBA.com. Aaron Brooks will get the starting nod in his place.

"Things happen," Shaw said. "Guys are late from time-to-time and they miss things. It's not the first time it's happened with our team. It's the first time for him this season. … I'm just trying to be consistent in the discipline when it comes to that. I want us to be professionals all the way through to the end. He made a mistake, so that’s the price in not starting tonight. It's not a big deal."

(3/21/2014) Nuggets guard Ty Lawson made his return from a groin injury on Friday, and fell one assist shy of a double-double in his team's 122-106 loss to the Mavericks.

Lawson scored 17 points on 6 of 12 from the floor, including 3 of 5 from behind the arc, and 2 of 3 from the free throw line. He also chipped in with nine assists and one rebound while logging 38 minutes of game action. He is averaging 12.8 points, 8.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds over his last five games.

Lawson was a late scratch Wednesday because of a sinus infection. He is averaging 19.0 points and 10.0 assists though nine March games.

(3/19/2014) Nuggets guard Ty Lawson is considered questionable for Wednesday's matchup with Detroit. ESPN Denver reports that Lawson is dealing with a groin injury as well as headaches. 

Lawson has appeared in nine-straight games for Denver after missing time with fractured ribs following the All-Star break. He's averaged 19.0 points and 10.0 assists in nine March games.

(3/16/2014) Nuggets guard Ty Lawson nearly recorded his 23rd double-double of the season Saturday against the Hawks, despite being held without a made field-goal for the first time in over a year.

Lawson missed all 12 of his field-goal attempts and ended up with just two points in 38 minutes, but found other ways to contribute. He dished out 11 assists with just two turnovers and added a season-high nine rebounds in the 97-92 loss.

Lawson has acquitted himself nicely as the Nuggets' first option offensively this season, though he is shooting a career-low 43.2 percent from the field. He is still averaging a career-high 18.5 points and 9.0 assists in 53 games so far.

(3/8/2014) Nuggets guard Ty Lawson handed out 17 assists and scored 32 points, securing a double-double Friday night against the Lakers.

Lawson shot 12 of 22 from the floor, including 5 of 7 from behind the arc, and 1 of 3 from the free throw line. Three of his five treys came in the first half. He also chipped in with four rebounds while logging 41 minutes of game action in a 134-126 win.

Lawson has scored 30-plus points in two of his last three games. He is averaging 27.0 points, 11.7 assists and 4.7 rebounds over his last five games.

Lawson scored 31 points on 11 of 16 shooting from the field, including 3 of 4 from downtown, and 6 of 7 from the free throw line. He handed out 11 assists to complete the double-double. He also chipped in with four rebounds and four steals while logging 40 minutes of game action. He was fouled out in the final moments of a 132-128 defeat.

Head coach Brian Shaw remains hopeful that Lawson will return to the floor at some point this season. No timetable has been established for his return.

"I think you still want him to get back and play," Shaw said. "The guys kind of light up when he's out there. Not only on the court. When we're on the plane or on the bus or in the locker room, they kind of congregate around him. It's the same way on the court. They get a little more confidence when they get on the floor with him. That’s something we're sorely missing right now."
