Nuggets guard Ty Lawson scores 18 points in win Friday

(3/27/2015) Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson scored 18 points on 7 of 12 shooting from the field and 4 of 5 from the free throw line in Denver's 107-91 win over the Jazz Friday. Lawson also dished out nine assists and pulled down four rebounds in the contest. 

It was Lawson's fourth game in his last five scoring in double figures ninth time doing so this month. He added three steals and one block to his totals.


Ty Lawson's double-double not enough in Nuggets loss

(3/20/2015) Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson had a double-double in a 108-91 loss to the Heat on Friday. 

Lawson scored 10 points on five-of-12 shooting and dished out 12 assists to record his 26th double-double of the season, all of the points/assists variety. 

Lawson shook off a scoreless first half to hit four of five shots in the third quarter. 

The Nuggets next play at the Magic on Sunday. 


Nuggets to plan to play rested starters Thursday

(3/18/2015) After sitting out of Monday's loss to the Grizzlies to rest, the Nuggets will bring back starters Ty Lawson, Kenneth Faried and Danilo Gallinari for Thursday's game at Houston, reports The Denver Post.

"The guys are ready to roll," interim coach Melvin Hunt said.

The Nuggets caused a little bit of controversy when they sat the trio Monday despite not being in playoff contention.

Jameer Nelson, Wilson Chandler and JJ Hickson are likely to receive more playing time as a result.

(3/7/2015) Ty Lawson scored a team-high 23 points and dished out nine assists in the Nuggets 120-111 loss to the Spurs on Friday. 

Lawson shot seven-for-13 from the field and knocked down all eight of his free throws. Lawson hit his first four shots of the game, on his way to 12 first-quarter points. Lawson switched to distributor, dishing out seven assists in the second half. 

The Nuggets next host the Rockets on Saturday.

Lawson has spent his entire six-year career in Denver, where he was previously coached by Karl. In 54 games, Lawson is averaging 16.6 points and 9.9 assists.

Shaw said Wednesday that the guard would be "disciplined internally" for the infraction. Lawson is a healthy scratch after saying he had been stranded in Las Vegas Wednesday due to travel issues.

Lawson missed a flight, which contribute to his unexcused absence on Wednesday.

"I told [Nuggets coach Brian Shaw] what happened, and he's cool with it," Lawson said. "So we'll just keep moving forward and keep playing hard."

Shaw said discipline measures will be handled internally.

(2/18/2015) The Nuggets are looking to move point guard Ty Lawson, and if successful, head coach Brian Shaw wants to bring in Pacers guard George Hill as his replacement, ESPN reports.

A report Tuesday said that the team wasn't actively shopping Lawson, but it appears they are pushing to make the right deal before Thursday's deadline. The Lakers and Bucks are two teams who have been reported to have interest in the point guard, who missed practice Wednesday for an unspecified reason.

Shaw has a familiarity with Hill, having been an assistant coach with the Pacers from 2011 to 2013 before becoming the head coach of the Nuggets. Hill has averaged 14.1 points, 3.8 assists and 3.3 rebounds in 15 games this season.

(2/18/2015) Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson was a no-show at the team's first post-break practice Wednesday, and coach Brian Shaw is investigating the reason why before determining whether to dole out any punishment, the Associated Press reports.

"Travel issues or whatever, he's not here," Shaw said. "So we had to go without him."

Shaw added that one of his choices may be to hold Lawson out of Friday's game in Milwaukee. Lawson's name has come up in trade rumors with Thursday's deadline looming, but the Nuggets are reportedly not actively shopping their leading scorer, who has averaged 16.9 points and 10.1 assists.

(2/17/2015) Though they have not actively shopped him leading up to Thursday's deadline, the Nuggets have received phone calls about the availability of point guard Ty Lawson, reports the Denver Post. The team has rejected any reported offers thus far leading up to the deadline.

Lawson is in the midst of his best statistical season, averaging a double-double -- 16.9 points and 10.1 assists per contest. He is also shooting 44.7 percent from the floor, including 36.0 percent from downtown through 51 games.

The only player the team has deemed untouchable is center Jusuf Nurkic, sources told Grantland.com. While Nurkic is untouchable, sources also indicated the Nuggets have been in exploratory talks with the Celtics about Ty Lawson.

It was the third time this season Lawson has posted 16 assists, tying a season-high. It was Lawson's 22nd double-double of the season and first in his last eight games. He added three rebounds and two steals to his totals.

Lawson saw 43 minutes of action with Jameer Nelson sidelined for the game, and despite the high usage, he delivered a 60 percent shooting performance for the first time since Jan. 7. He also racked up eight assists, two rebounds and two steals in the loss, the team's fourth straight. The Nuggets will look to bounce back Friday against the Pistons.

Lawson is not being suspended by the team or league, he will simply sit out and return to the team Saturday. Any further punishment will be handed out by the league, not by the team, according to The Denver Post.
