Ricky Rubio plays through busted lip

(3/27/2014) Timberwolves guard Ricky Rubio took a painful elbow to his face that left him bloodied and in need of 15 stitches to his upper lip Wednesday, but he was able to return to action in a 107-83 win over the Hawks.

Rubio ended up playing 31 minutes, many with the stitches in. He finished with just four points on 1 of 6 shooting, but he found other ways to contribute. Rubio dished out 10 assists while turning the ball over just twice, and ended up with six steals of his own in the win.

Rubio's shooting woes remain a concern, though he is playing better recently. He is shooting 43.6 percent from the field in the month of March, while averaging 9.9 points and 8.6 rebounds in 14 games. 


Ricky Rubio tossed up massive triple-double

(3/20/2014) Timberwolves guard Ricky Rubio might have put together the finest performance of his career Wednesday, in a 123-122 overtime win over the Mavericks.

Rubio recorded the third triple-double of his career, and he didn't even need the extra period to do it, as he grabbed his 10th and final rebound in regulation. He finished the game with 22 points on 8 of 12 shooting and added 15 assists to go with his 10 rebounds, while also forcing four steals and recording one block in 49 minutes.

Rubio's progression has flat-lined a bit in his third NBA season, as his inability to shoot the ball remains a big issue. He is averaging a career-low 9.1 points per game, though he is tossing in a career-high 8.6 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game while appearing in each of the team's first 66 games.

Rubio came pretty close to a triple-double in the win, dishing out nine assists and grabbing eight rebounds in 36 minutes while also recording three steals. He has averaged 8.9 points, 8.5 assists and 4.6 rebounds over 61 games played.

Rubio suffered a lacerated chin in the first half but was able to return after getting five stitches and complete the double-double while also racking up a season-high seven steals and one rebound in 33 minutes. He has averaged 8.9 points and 8.3 assists over 53 games played.

(2/9/2014) With Kevin Love and Kevin Martin sidelined with injuries, Timberwolves guard Ricky Rubio helped carry the load on Saturday, as he cracked the 20-point mark for just the second time this season in his team's 117-110 loss to Portland.

Rubio scored a career-high 25 points on 8 of 19 shooting, including 2 of 4 from downtown, and 7 of 8 from the free throw line. He did all of his damage in 39 minutes of game action, also adding nine assists, two rebounds and one steal. He has averaged 12.8 points, 8.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds over his last five games played.

Rubio's points came at the end of the fourth quarter, as he was held scoreless through most of the game. However, he was able to top 10 assists for the second straight game while adding six rebounds and one steal in 31 minutes. Rubio has averaged 8.3 points and 8.3 assists over 48 games played.

(1/26/2014) Timberwolves guard Ricky Rubio was able to play 37 minutes Saturday against the Trail Blazers, one night after appearing to suffer an ankle injury late in a win over the Warriors.

Rubio had a solid game, putting up his second double-double in three games. He scored 10 points on 4 of 8 shooting and tossed in 11 assists, his third game in a row reaching double figures. He also tossed in three rebounds and two steals, while turning the ball over just twice in the 115-104 loss.

Rubio is starting to put together some stretches of solid play, after struggling for much of the previous month. He is averaging 8.4 points and 9.8 assists per game over the last five games.

Rubio left Friday's win over the Warriors with a sprained left ankle. He suffered the injury while taking a charge from Andre Iguodala with 27 seconds left in the fourth quarter. He has averaged 7.4 points, 8.6 assists and 4.0 rebounds over his last five games played.

(1/25/2014) Timberwolves guard Ricky Rubio did something he had not done since Dec. 16th. He converted a field goal attempt in the fourth quarter, and also appeared to have injured his knee in the final seconds of Friday's win over the Warriors.

Rubio sank a 6-foot jumper with under two minutes remaining in the game. He has made only eight field goals in the fourth quarter this season alone. Rubio left the game after taking a charge from Andre Iguodala with 27 seconds left in the fourth. No word if he'll miss any playing time with the injury.

(1/21/2014) Timberwolves guard Ricky Rubio appeared to be playing with much more confidence Tuesday against the Jazz, as he snapped his seven-game single-digit scoring streak in a 112-97 win.

Rubio, who also had no picked up double-digit assists in that same span, accomplished both while playing 39 minutes. He scored 11 points on 3 of 5 shooting with one 3-pointer, and added 13 assists with just one turnover. He also tossed in five rebounds and five steals as well.

Rubio's game has been suffering for a while, so hopefully this helps him get back on track. He is still averaging just 8.1 points and 7.9 assists per game in January.

Rubio recorded his first double-double since Nov. 27 while also tallying five steals and four rebounds in the loss. Rubio played just the first three quarters of the game, and scored 12 points on 4 of 8 shooting in the blowout win. He shot 2 of 3 from three-point range and connected on both attempts at the free-throw line. Rubio was well on his way to a double-double, but finished just shy with eight assists in 25 minutes. He added three steals, while turning the ball over just two times himself.

Rubio's shooting struggles have been a major issue this season, but he has been surprisingly on target from three-point range, posting a 45.8 percent mark from deep. He is averaging 8.2 points and 8.7 assists per game through the first 14 games.

(10/22/2013) The Timberwolves will pick up the contracts options for Derrick Williams and Ricky Rubio for the 2014-15 season, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Williams' contract will pay him $6.7 million for his fourth season in the league, while Rubio will be paid $5 million. Both players are entering their third seasons.
