News: Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews missed his fifth game in a row Wednesday against the Warriors, as his season came to an end. Matthews was unable to play due to an ankle injury that has lingered for weeks. Matthews hadn't missed a game in each of his first three years in the league, but Wednesday marked the 13th contest he was forced to sit out of this year.
Analysis: The 26-year-old turned in a fairly productive 2012-13 campaign as he was able to increase his scoring output by more than a point from last year (14.8 ppg). He also averaged a career-best 2.4 made treys per game while once again starting each of the 69 games he appeared in. However, this could be as good as gets for Matthews, who still doesn't bring much to the table outside of his mid-teen scoring and decent 3-point shooting. Fantasy owners should plan on targeting Matthews in the later rounds in most draft formats next fall.

News: As expected, Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews was ruled out for Sunday's contest against the Nuggets as he continues to nurse an ankle injury. Matthews, who has been spotted in a walking boot, has now missed three straight games with his injuries.
Analysis: There is really no reason for Matthews to rush back on the court at this point, but the team continues to list him as day to day. The normally durable 26-year-old has now missed 11 games on the season after never missing a game in each of his first three seasons in the league. While Matthews once again proved to be a decent source for points, he didn't offer much in the rebounding, assist or steals departments. However, that is nothing new for Matthews, who will be worthy of a late-round pick in most formats next fall, assuming he is healthy.
News: According to a report from CSSNW.com, Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews is out for Friday's game against the Thunder. Matthews was spotted in a walking boot Wednesday and has now missed two games due to the injury. He remains day to day.
Analysis: Matthews' ankle has no structural damage, but it is clear that the team has no desire to push him down the stretch. The Blazers have three games remaining after Friday's this season, and it will be interesting to see whether the team opts to play him. Matthews has fought through ankle issues through the second half of the season, so they would have ample justification to shut him down. When healthy, Matthews is a solid Fantasy option, averaging 15.0 points per game on the season. He is a risky play down the stretch due to this injury.
News: Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews was unable to play Wednesday against the Lakers, due to an ankle injury suffered Sunday. Matthews is still in a boot, and it is not clear whether he will be able to return to the floor with just four games remaining on the schedule.
Analysis: X-rays came back negative, but there is little reason for the Blazers to risk further injury this late in the season. Matthews has fought through ankle issues through the second half of the season, so they have ample justification to shut him down. When healthy, Matthews is a solid Fantasy option, averaging 15.0 points per game on the season. He is a risky play down the stretch due to this injury.
News: Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews was forced to leave Sunday's contest against the Mavericks. Matthews landed awkwardly on his right ankle in the first quarter of the 96-91 win and was immediately removed the game. He was unable to return to the contest and was seen wearing a walking boot after the defeat. "My (stuff) is messed up," Matthews said after the game. "Never felt this before."
Analysis: X-rays taken on Matthews' ankle came back negative, but this looks to be a fairly significant injury. Portland only has five game left on its schedule, so it is possible Matthews has played his last game in the 2012-13 season. The 26-year-old was averaging 15 points on the year entering Sunday's tilt while also giving owners 2.5 made treys per game on 39 percent shooting from behind the arc. Matthews can be considered a viable source for mid-teens scoring and 3-pointers, making him a viable start in most formats when healthy.
News: Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews continues to fill it up from 3-point line. Matthews, who is shooting a career-best 41 percent from behind the arc this season, hit four more 3s during Portland's loss to the Jazz last Monday night. He has now made a combined 22 treys over his last eight games and is shooting 53 percent from behind the arc over that span.
Analysis: Matthews has also been a decent 3-point shooter, but he has been absolutely lighting it up of late. He is giving owners 3.3 made treys during his eight-game run as he finally seems to be healthy after being limited by ankle and elbow injuries over the past few weeks. While Matthews doesn't offer much outside of mid-teen scoring and 3-pointers, owners should take advantage of his recent stretch and get him active over the final few scoring periods of the year.

Matthews went 7 of 11 from downtown in the 102-95 defeat to finish with 28 points. He also added three assists, two rebounds and two assists to his stat line, while logging 43 minutes of game action.
Analysis: Matthews' production has been all over the place of late as he has been dealing with ankle issues over the past few weeks. However, he remains a serious threat from downtown as evidenced by his 39.5 percent shooting from behind the arc on the year. Matthews also gives owners mid-teens scoring most nights, making him a worthy mid-range option in most formats.

Analysis: Matthews entered Saturday averaging 14.4 points in the previous five games so it was nice to see him get back on track against the Pistons. Since Matthews can score in the mid-teens on a consistent basis, however, keep the 26-year-old active in deeper Fantasy formats.

Matthews got hot from three-point range in the game, with all five of his makes coming from long range on seven attempts. He added four rebounds, one assist and two steals, while missing a pair of free-throw attempts.
Analysis: Mathews has been shooting the ball well recently, but his shot attempts are going down. He is 44.9 percent from the field over the last five games with 3.0 three-pointers made per game, but his scoring is down to 13.0 because his role has been reduced. Matthews has been struggling with an ankle injury for a while, an issue which may still be bothering him. Still, he is playing through whatever lingering pain might be there, so Fantasy owners should continue to consider him a solid starting option in most formats.

Matthews shot poorly but hit a couple late 3-pointers as he scored 16 points with two assists. Matthews went 4 of 12 and 11 of those shot attempts and all of the makes came from beyond the arc. He saw 32 minutes and grabbed one rebound.

Matthews has dealt with nagging injuries for the first time in his career this season, but he continues to play well when healthy. He is averaging 14.8 points and 2.7 assists per game on the season, the latter being a career high. As long as Matthews does not suffer a setback with the injury, he can be considered a solid Fantasy option in most formats.

Analysis: We were hoping that a few days off would allow Matthews' ankle to heal up a bit, but his status for Tuesday's tilt remains very much in question. Fantasy owners will have to keep an eye on his status leading up to when lineups lock to see if he will be available to play. Portland is scheduled to play three times in the upcoming scoring period, so Matthews could still end up playing twice even if he misses a game. Matthews can be considered a viable start in most formats when healthy.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews suffered a high ankle sprain to his left ankle on Wednesday early in the game at New Orleans. Matthews, who said he heard a pop when he landed, had to be helped to the locker room after playing just two minutes after taking an awkward fall in the first quarter. Matthews had one rebound and one assist before getting hurt and did not take a shot. X-rays were negative and he expects to play following the All-Star break. I was planning on working out as soon as I landed, Matthews told The Oregonian. But Im not going to do anything stupid. Its better for me, if I need to take all four days, to take all four days and come back pain free rather than anything less than that.
Analysis: Matthews had scored 20 points his last time out against Miami but was hurt just moments into Wednesday's game. The injury appeared to be somewhat serious and Fantasy owners have to hold their breath, though he won't have to play again until after the All-Star break so he has some time to heal. When healthy, Matthews has become a viable Fantasy option in all leagues and formats.

Analysis: Matthews participated in the team's shootaround Monday, however, he did not exert too much energy on his ailing right ankle. He also donned a heavy wrap around his ankle, but was still grimacing in pain as he made cuts on the court. Matthews' game doesn't involve as much slashing as spotting up along the perimeter, which appears to have helped him return to the court quicker. Fantasy owners should still keep close tabs during the game as he represents a quality scoring option in the majority of formats when healthy.

Analysis: It took him a little longer than expected, but Matthews is finally back in action and ready to go. Matthews is averaging 16.1 points and 3.2 rebounds per game thus far before getting hurt. Fantasy owners should keep him active in most formats heading into Week 8 (Dec. 17-23) now that he is back in the lineup.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews (hip) did not practice on Saturday, reports the Oregonian. Matthews is likely a game-time decision for Sunday against New Orleans. Matthews has been sitting out for the Blazers.
Analysis: Matthews is definitely taking longer than expected to return from this hip injury. He was originally optimistic and expected to miss minimal time, but has now been out for a while and is still iffy for Sunday's game. Matthews is averaging 16.1 points and 3.2 rebounds per game thus far and should be viewed as a decent mid-range option in most formats when healthy.
News: Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews told reporters that he's about "50-60 percent healthy," as he continues to deal with a lingering hip injury. Matthews is listed as inactive for Thursday night's contest against the Spurs with the injury.
Analysis: Though Matthews was originally optimistic, it now seems as if the Blazers will take more of a cautious approach with the 26-year-old. Now that it's likely that he'll sit out, he'll likely have three days of rest before the Blazers face the Hornets at home on Sunday. His status for that game is still uncertain, so we'll continue to monitor his progress moving forward. Matthews is averaging 16.1 points and 3.2 rebounds per game thus far and should be viewed as a decent mid-range option in most formats when healthy.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews hopes to play Thursday against the Spurs, reports the Oregonian Tuesday. Matthews did some rehab work Tuesday and also participated in some shooting drills through his hip injury. Im feeling better, but not anywhere near where it needs to be, he said. Slightly concerned, but still optimistic.
Analysis: Matthews has not undergone an MRI and may not need one as he's shown improvement from his contusion and strain to his left hip flexor. If it was somewhere else, a little bit lower, I could play through it, fight through it, he said. Unfortunately, a hip flexor triggers everything you need as a basketball player. Matthews is getting better, but sounds like he still may miss Thursday's game. Matthews is averaging 16.1 points per game this season on 43 percent shooting from the field and can be considered a decent mid-range option in most formats when healthy.
News: Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews was held out of Monday's contest against the Raptors with a hip injury. Matthews tried to get loose during warmups but was deemed unfit to play in the contest. He is officially being listed as day to day. Matthews claims he will play Thursday against the Spurs.
Analysis: Matthews' string of 250 consecutive games played came to an end Monday night as he was forced to sit out. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on his status moving forward to see when he will be able to get back on the court again. Matthews is averaging 16.1 points per game this season on 43 percent shooting from the field and can be considered a decent mid-range option in most formats when healthy.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews is considered a game-time decision for Monday's contest against Toronto as he continues to be bothered by a hip injury. Matthews, who departed last Saturday's game against Sacramento with the issue, was a limited participant during the morning shootaround. Matthews has drained at least three treys in eight games this season, while posting an overall 38.9 percent from downtown.
Analysis: Matthews has appeared in every game during his four-year NBA career, but that streak could come to an abrupt halt as a result of the injury. The 26-year-old acknowledged the possibility of sitting out Monday to prevent further injury. "I dont want this to set me back two weeks, three weeks," he told reporters. The Blazers don't play again until Thursday so the additional rest could benefit Matthews is he is sidelined against the Raptors. Fantasy owners should keep tabs on his status, but there is some risk in activating him during Week 7 (Dec. 10-16).
News: Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews was forced to leave Saturdays game against the Kings, after suffering a hit injury. He was hit on the knee by John Salmons, and was clearly hobbled before being taken to the locker room. He was eventually diagnosed with a left hip flexor strain. Matthews played 29 minutes in the game, scoring 14 points on 5 of 11 shooting before leaving. His status moving forward is not known.
Analysis: Matthews is in the midst of a bounceback campaign, after disappointing in 2011-12, so hopefully this does not become a lingering issue for him. We should know more Sunday, as the Trail Blazers are off. He should be considered a risky Fantasy option for Week 7 (Dec. 10-16), until we get word on his status. He has played in 250 consecutive games, a streak that is in jeopardy Monday against the Raptors, if this injury proves serious.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews hit three 3-pointers in Monday's overtime win at Charlotte. Matthews went 3 of 9 from 3-point range and 6 of 15 overall through 45 minutes to score 19 points. He added seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and a blocked shot in the all-around solid performance.
Analysis: Matthews has not been shooting the ball consistently for the Blazers and that continued Monday, despite the 19 points. He's also erratic with his other Fantasy-relevant statistics, outside of 3-point shooting and steals. Still, he contributes in a variety of ways and does belong active in most Fantasy formats.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews (thumb, illness) was able to suit up and play Wednesday at Washington. Matthews has continued to battle through his various ailments and is getting closer to 100 percent. He struggled Wednesday in a loss as he scored just six points on 2 of 10 shooting over 35 minutes.
Analysis: Matthews had scored 19 points his last time out through soreness in his right thumb so we can't really blame the injury for his poor shooting Wednesday. He was averaging 20.6 points per game over his last five games and that comes with solid figures across the board, especially 3-point shooting. Matthews should remain active in all Fantasy formats as he's healthy enough to play for the Blazers.
News: According to The Oregonian, Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews battled soreness in his right thumb, but still managed 19 points and three assists during Portland's 108-101 loss at Detroit on Monday night. Matthews, who was also dealing with an illness during the game, connected on only 5 of his 12 attempts, including 3 of 7 from downtown. "I sound better than I feel," he said after the game.
Analysis: Matthews may be forced to sit with his pair of issues and is considered questionable heading into Wednesday's matchup against winless Washington. The 26-year-old has experienced a slight dip in accuracy and has drilled less than 45 percent of his attempts in three of his past four games. But he still has made at least one trey in all 14 games this season and is worthy of starting in all Fantasy formats as long as he's active.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews had his best performance of the young season Friday night against Minnesota. He scored a season-high 30 points on 12-of-17 shooting in the 103-95 win. He was an efficient 5 for 6 from downtown and made 1 of 2 free throws while playing 40 minutes. Matthews also chipped in with four steals and three assists in the victory.
Analysis: Matthews has gotten off to a solid start thus far and is on pace for a career campaign after taking a step back last season. He is averaging 19.4 points with three rebounds and 1.8 steals in the previous five games and is shooting nearly 53 percent during that stretch, including 48 percent from beyond the arc. The 26-year-old and rookie Damian Lillard give Portland a potent backcourt that can score points in bunches so keep Matthews active in the majority of Fantasy formats going forward.
News: Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews was held in check for the second game in a row Saturday night against the Spurs. Matthews couldn't get going and was held to just 10 points and four assists in a 112-109 defeat. He went 4 of 11 from the floor, including 1 of 3 from downtown, and made just one of his two free throw attempts. Matthews suffered a scare in the third quarter as he injured his back. He was evaluated by trainers and returned to game action. Matthews also chipped in with three rebounds and two blocks in 37 minutes.
Analysis: Matthews has showed some durability and has played in 236 consecutive games, so he has played through a bit of pain every now and then. It was a good sign that he was able check back in and play the rest of the second half and will have a day to rest and re-evaluate his back before Monday's contest against the Hawks. We'll continue to keep an eye on his status moving forward. Matthews was shooting well from downtown before going 2 for 7 in his last two games. He should be viewed as a solid mid-range option in most formats as long as he is healthy.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews was back at 20 points Monday night in a loss at Dallas. Matthews played 36 minutes and shot 8 for 15 from the field with three 3-pointers in four attempts to score 20 points. He added three rebounds and a steal for the Blazers in the losing effort.
Analysis: Matthews is shooting really well from long range as he's hit 13 in four games to start the year. He's averaging over 18 points per game with solid numbers all around and should start seeing more usage in all Fantasy leagues.
News: Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews got things started off on the right foot during Portland's season opener against the Lakers Wednesday night. Matthews poured in 22 points in the 116-106 win on 7 of 11 shooting from the field. He went 4 of 6 from the free-throw line and also added four assists and two rebounds while logging 37 minutes of game action.
Analysis: Matthews really struggled through most of last season and was even benched at one point. However, he is back in the starting lineup this year and seems to fit in perfectly with the new up-tempo offense the Blazers will run. The 26-year-old can really heat from the outside at any point and can be viewed as a solid mid-range option in most formats as long as he is knocking down his shots.
News: Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews scored a season-high 33 points during Monday night's contest against the Jazz. Matthews made 10 of his 12 field-goal attempts in the 102-97 defeat, including going 5 of 6 from downtown. He also added three assists, two steals and one rebound to his stat line, while logging 40 minutes of game action.
Analysis: After going through a major slump during early March, Matthews has bounced back nicely over the past few weeks. He has now scored in double figures in 11 straight games and is averaging just under 17 points per game over that stretch. As long as he can maintain his current production, owners should continue to roll with the 25-year-old as a viable low-end option in the majority of formats over the final few weeks of the season.
News: The Oregonian reports that Portland guard Wesley Matthews is currently playing with a surplus of ailments that might keep others off the court. His left hip has been howling for weeks, his left shoulder is so sore he often winces when he peels his uniform off after games and his left Achilles aches. He's played most of the season with a bum toe that lost its nail months ago and one of Matthews' fingers is so badly injured it will require surgery after the season.
Analysis: Matthews hasn't shown any signs of struggling with the injuries. He is averaging 16.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.6 steals in his past five games, and he should remain hot to close the year. Keep hum active in all leagues as long as he's playing through the injuries.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews has found his shooting touch lately for the Trail Blazers. He shot 6 for 13 from the field, going 5 for 7 from beyond the 3-point arc, and nailing all four of his foul shots on Tuesday night against Milwaukee. Matthews finished with 21 points and nine rebounds in 35 minutes of work. The Trail Blazers would end up losing the game, 116-87. Matthews added two steals, one block and one assist in the loss.
Analysis: Since the Trail Blazers traded Gerald Wallace to the Nets, Matthews has stepped back into the starting lineup. Over his last three games he's averaging 18.3 points and 4.0 boards per contest. He is shooting a high percentage from the floor though and has gone 12 for 15 from downtown over that stretch. Fantasy owners in need of scoring and 3-pointers should get Matthews active as that's exactly what he'll give you at this point in the year.
News: With Thursdays trade that sent Gerald Wallace to the Nets, the Trail Blazers were forced to shuffle their starting lineup for Fridays game against the Bulls, with Wesley Matthews being the big beneficiary. Matthews was moved back into the starting five for the first time in 13 games, and he responded with his best scoring game since early February, putting up 18 points on 6 of 11 shooting in 33 minutes. He didnt do much else in the game, grabbing two rebounds and one assist, however he helped the new-look Blazers top the NBAs top team, Chicago, 100-89.
Analysis: Matthews should be a fixture in the starting lineup from this point on, as the Blazers appear to be looking forward. Matthews is their long-term answer at the off-guard spot, so they will need to make sure he continues to develop. Look for Matthews to be a useful starting Fantasy option from this point on as his role increases.
News: Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews continues to provide the team with a spark in the second unit, as he scored 10 points on 3 of 11 shooting in 28 minutes on Friday against the Celtics. Matthews struggled with his three-point shot in the loss, missing on all five of his attempts from long range, however he was one of only five players on the team to reach double figures in scoring. He also added three rebounds and an assist as the Blazers lost, 104-86.
Analysis: Matthews was moved to the bench nine games ago and is averaging 11.3 points per game, not much off his season average. The Blazers have been looking for a way to solve their recent woes, so there remains the chance that Matthews could return to the starting lineup, however even if he does, he is unlikely to see a significant change in Fantasy value, as he remains just a low-end option.
News: Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews was back on the court on Wednesday night versus the Nuggets. He left last Tuesday's game with an ankle injury and didn't return. Matthews logged 28 minutes off the bench for Portland, shooting 4 for 11 from the floor. He went 1 for 5 from downtown and converted 2 of his 3 foul shots en route to 11 points. He added two assists and three boards. Portland would end up losing the game, 104-95.
Analysis: Matthews and the Trail Blazers play again on Thursday, so we'll get to see just how good Matthew's ankle is. It seems the All-Star break gave Matthews the rest he needed. Over his last five games he's averaging 12.0 points, 3.2 boards and 1.6 assists per contest. Fantasy owners should continue viewing Matthews as a viable guard in deeper formats, but you may want to give him another game before putting him back in those lineups.
News: Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews left Tuesday night's contest against the Spurs with an ankle injury. Matthews rolled his in the second half of the 137-97 victory, and did not return to the contest. He finished with 11 points, four rebounds and four assists prior to leaving the game.
Analysis: Matthews looked to be in some pain when leaving the court, but he should have plenty of time to heal up. Portland is now off until next Wednesday due to the All-Star break, meaning the 25-year-old will get almost a full week to recover. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on his status moving forward. Despite Matthews losing his starting gig, he can still be considered a viable low-end option in deeper formats, when healthy.
News: The Oregonian reports on Saturday that Portland coach Nate McMillan believes Wesley Matthews "lost his edge" when told he would no longer be starting in favor of Nicolas Batum.
Analysis: Matthews certainly has not been happy with the demotion. That said, he vowed to remain professional and to work hard. Unfortunately, he's shooting a career-low 41 percent from the field and averaging just 10.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.4 3-pointers per game over his last five. Matthews should only see usage in deeper Fantasy formats right now.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews got the start on Wednesday night against Golden State with LaMarcus Aldridge sidelined. On Tuesday, the Trail Blazers took Matthews out of the starting lineup because of his struggles. Things didn't get much better for him on Wednesday as he shot 4 for 12 from the field, going 1 for 6 from downtown, and finishing with nine points. He added three boards and four assists in his 34 minutes on the court. Portland would hold on for the 93-91 victory.
Analysis: Matthews was replaced by Nicolas Batum in the starting lineup and will likely go back to his reserve role once Aldridge is healthy enough to return. Over his last five games, Matthews is averaging 10.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. He's scored in double figures in just two of those outings. Owners should consider Matthews a low-end option at this point in the season, despite getting some starts for the injured Aldridge.
News: Trail Blazers F Nicolas Batum was inserted into the starting lineup in place of the Wesley Matthews for Tuesday night's contest against the Wizards. Matthews, who was told of the decision on Monday night, finished with 15 points on 6 of 13 shooting from the field in the 124-109 defeat. He went 3 for 6 from downtown and also chipped in with five rebounds, two assists and a steal, while logging 37 minutes off the bench.
Analysis: Matthews looks to have lost his starting gig -- at least for the time being -- although no one knows how long coach Nate McMillian will stick with his new lineup. Fantasy owners should obviously keep an eye on how Portland decides to set its lineup moving forward. While Matthews still saw 37 minutes on Tuesday night, that mostly had to do with the fact that LaMarcus Aldridge went down with an ankle injury. The 25-year-old most likely won't won't see that much run on nightly basis coming off the pine, which could cut into his production. Owners should consider Matthews a merely a low-end option at this point in the season.
News: Portland G Wesley Matthews scored 18 points in 36 minutes of playing time during the Trail Blazers' 111-107 loss to Oklahoma City on Monday night. Matthews turned in one of his finest shooting performances of the season and connected on 6 of 9 from the field, including 2 of 5 from 3-point range. He also hit 4 of 5 attempts at the free-throw line to finish with his highest point total in nearly a month (Jan. 10 against the Clippers).
Analysis: Matthews showed improved shot selection and drained 65 percent of his attempts for only the second time this season. The 25-year-old had been struggling mightily with his scoring and netted single digits in three straight games last week before posting 10-plus points in his past two outings. Matthews is a better shooter than his 41-percent clip indicates and could represent a quality buy-low candidate in most Fantasy formats.
News: Portland G Wesley Matthews was held to just six points during the Trail Blazers' 93-89 loss at Utah on Monday night. Matthews made 3 of 12 shots from the field and missed all five 3-point attempts as he scored in single digits for the first time in his past five games. He has now shot less than 35 percent five times over his previous eight outings. His field-goal percentage for the season has dropped to 40.9 percent. "I just dont know," Matthews told The Oregonian about shaking his shooting woes. "Honestly, I'm at a loss right now."
Analysis: Matthews stressed that he is not bothered by an injury as his scoring average has dipped to 13.2 points per game this season. Instead, he has described his funk as the worst of his career. "What Im struggling with is I feel like Im not helping the team," said Matthews, who drained at least 45 percent of his attempts in each of his first two NBA seasons. "It's not like Im not doing what Im supposed to be doing to be successful. Im doing everything the same. Its just not working. The worst part is I feel great." Fantasy owners should consider benching Matthews in shallow formats while he regains his consistency.
News: After scoring just eight points in each of the previous two contests, Portland G Wesley Matthews was able to get back on track on Monday night against Sacramento. He finished with 14 points and four rebounds in the 101-89 win. He went 5 for 14 from the floor, including 2 for 6 from beyond the arc, and made both of his free throws. Matthews, who played 30 minutes, also chipped in with two assists in the victory.
Analysis: Matthews has struggled to find his scoring stroke of late as he is shooting just 28 percent in his last five games, including 30 percent from downtown. He is putting up just 10 points with 3.4 rebounds and 1.6 steals over that span. The 25-year-old proved last season that he can be a contributor in Fantasy so keep an eye on his progress going forward. But until he proves to be more consistent, continue to leave Matthews on the bench in the majority of larger Fantasy formats.
News: Portland G Wesley Matthews scored 10 points in 36 minutes of playing time during the Trail Blazers' 84-77 victory over New Orleans on Monday. Matthews hit 4 of 10 shots from the field, including 2 of 5 from 3-point range, to finish as one of four Portland players in double-digits. He has now connected on at least one 3-pointer in eight consecutive games and is shooting 37.5 percent from downtown this season overall.
Analysis: Matthews is being relied on as the Blazers' main 3-point shooter and he has responded well early in the season. He has made a trey in all but two of his games during the early part of the year and netted five 3-pointers against Denver on Dec. 29. He isn't expected to produce much in other departments and should be considered a quality option in the majority of Fantasy formats, especially category-based leagues.
News: After finishing with just eight points his last time out, Portland G Wesley Matthews got back on track on Sunday against the Cavaliers. He scored 24 points and dished out three assists in the 98-78 win. He went 8 for 17 from the floor, including 3 for 9 from downtown, and made 5 of 6 free throws. Matthews, who played 33 minutes, also chipped in with two rebounds and a steal in the victory.
Analysis: Matthews is now averaging 15.6 points per game thanks to his efforts on Sunday and is making 41 percent of his attempts from 3-point land. His rebounds have also been up early on and he is still putting up over a steal per game. With Brandon Roy no longer in Portland, he is being counted on for more scoring in the backcourt and has every opportunity to succeed after a breakout sophomore campaign. Keep an eye on his progress going forward and continue to view Matthews as a viable option in most Fantasy formats heading into Week 3 (Jan. 9-15).
News: While G Wesley Matthews has been the Trailblazers second-leading scorer so far this season, a spot he maintained with 16 points on Tuesday against Oklahoma City, it was his defense that helped Portland top their division rival, 103-93. The teams went into the half with the Thunder up 53-51 when Matthews compared the game to the high-scoring Rose Bowl football game just played. "The first team to play defense was going to win the game," Matthews said. ". It might as well have been us." He had four steals and a block on the defensive end as the Thunder scored just 40 in the second half. He added 16 points, six rebounds and two assists in the contest as well.
Analysis: Matthews has largely replicated his production from last seasons breakout campaign, averaging 15.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.2 assists-per game through seven games as he works to replace retired G Brandon Roy. "You can't replace Roy, with all of the things that he did for this organization and the community itself, he said. But we've got a lot of guys that can play and are willing to." Matthews hasnt quite replaced Roys formerly elite production, but he has been very good over the last two years and should be considered a No. 3 Fantasy guard in all formats.
News: Portland G Wesley Matthews finished with 16 points and six rebounds during the Trail Blazers' 107-103 win over Philadelphia on Monday night. Matthews went 4 of 14 from the field, but connected on 3 of 6 attempts from beyond the arc. His three treys paced the team.
Analysis: Matthews turned a subpar shooting night as he converted just 28.6 percent of his shots. He played 41 minutes -- one less than the team leader F LaMarcus Aldridge -- and also added a block and a steal. It's unlikely he has many lowly performances as he is a career 46-percent shooter. With a spot secure in the starting lineup, Fantasy owners should consider Matthews a solid Fantasy G option for Week 1 (Dec. 25-Jan. 1).
News: Portland G Wesley Matthews said his once-injured right ankle is fully healed after having a Platelet Rich Plasma injection during the offseason, according to The Oregonian. Matthews suffered a torn tendon in his right ankle during practice in January, but still played the remainder of the season. "The PRP worked," Matthews said. "It was a success. Im good, Im healthy and Im feeling as explosive and athletic as Ive ever been."
Analysis: Matthews, who has ditched his walking boot, said his condition was so bad that he could not feel his numb right foot toward the end of last season. He filled in admirably for injured G Brandon Roy and finished with 15.9 points and 3.1 rebounds. The 25-year-old could also top his career-high of 33.6 minutes per game this season if Roy parts ways with the Blazers. Consider Wallace a quality option in later rounds of 2011-12 Fantasy drafts.
News: According to Ben Golliver of CBSSports.com and the BlazersEdge.com, Portland guard Wesley Matthews said he would be undergoing tests on his injured ankle this summer. Matthews said Sunday via Twitter that he's "in a boot" and that he has "an uneven walk." A team spokesperson said Monday that Matthews is indeed wearing a boot as part of the treatment process on his injured ankle. Matthews is also undergoing PRP (platelet rich plasma) therapy as well.
Analysis: Matthews averaged 15.9 points, 3.1 boards and 2.0 assists per game for the Trail Blazers on the year. The second-year guard -- his first with Portland -- put up solid numbers as he assumed the starting role after Brandon Roy was hindered by his knee issues. Matthews has proved to be a great addition last offseason and looks to continue his success this fall. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on this ankle issue to make sure it's nothing serious. As long as he's healthy, Fantasy owners should target Matthews in the middle rounds on Draft Day for the 2011-12 season.
News: According to Ben Golliver of CBSSports.com and the BlazersEdge.com, Portland guard Wesley Matthews had an MRI on his ankle and will meet with doctors to discuss the extend of the injury shortly. He said the MRI showed his ankle was "messed up." Matthews averaged 15.9 points, 3.1 boards and 2.0 assists per game for the Trail Blazers on the year.
Analysis: The second-year guard -- his first with Portland -- put up solid numbers as he assumed the starting role after Brandon Roy was hindered by his knee issues.
News: Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews came out of the gates shooting on Thursday as Portland won its first game in the first-round series with Dallas. Matthews said after the game the team played with heart in the fourth quarter and that's why there were able to hold on for the 97-92 win. He shot 8 for 12 from the floor -- connecting on 4 of his 6 attempts from beyond the 3-point arc -- and converting 5 of his 6 foul shots. Matthews led his team with 25 points in his 36 minutes of court time. He added two steals, three assists and two boards for the Trail Blazers. Matthews suffered a forehead contusion in Game 2 on Tuesday, but was able to start and produced a solid performance in Game 3.
Analysis: Matthews and the Trail Blazers got the job done on Thursday. The second-year guard out of Marquette continues to prove all his doubters wrong as he keeps piling up all of these solid performances. He stepped up with Brandon Roy dealing with his knee problems and has proved to be a great addition last offseason. Fantasy owners should continue to view Matthews as a quality guard option in all formats heading into the 2011-12 season. Consider him a mid-round selection on Draft Day.
News: Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews suffered a forehead contusion on Tuesday night as he collided head-to-head with Mavericks guard Jason Terry in the first quarter. Matthews stayed on the ground motionless for a bit before getting up and going to the locker room. He would return to the game for Portland, but they would still lose the game, 101-89. Matthews shot 6 for 11 -- 1 for 2 from downtown -- in his 36 minutes of court time. He finished with 13 points, one block and one rebound.
Analysis: Matthews should be fine moving forward, but he may wake up with a heck of a headache. He improved off his rookie campaign this year and became a staple in Portland's lineup with Brandon Roy going through his knee issues. When healthy, Matthews is a quality guard option in the majority of Fantasy leagues.
News: After two straight seven points efforts, Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews went a perfect 8 for 8 from the free throw line and 4 of 7 from the field on the way to 16 points in Sunday's win over the Mavericks. He assisted on two baskets on the night while pulling down a rebound and stealing a pair of passes defensively in29 minutes of playing time as a starter.
Analysis: Matthews was good from the line, but he was better when the Blazers needed a big bucket. Dallas cut the lead to seven points, the closest it had been in a very long time in the game, and Matthews answered with a layup and a free throw for Portland to put the game out of reach. He has been a bit inconsistent as a scorer, but shot well more times than not recently. Fantasy owners should continue to utilize the Marquette product as a mid-range option as long as he's healthy.
News: Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews had 17 of his 28 points in the first quarter, helping Portland beat Philadelphia 110-101 Saturday night. Matthews had 20 points at the break after hitting six 3-pointers and seven of his eight shots. Matthews and Portland led the entire game. He would shoot 9 for 15 from the floor and convert 6 of his 9 shots from beyond the 3-point arc. He also nailed all four of his freebies at the charity stripe. He added six rebounds and a steal in his 38 minutes of action.
Analysis: Matthews is playing extremely well right now and Portland could not be happier. They have a solid starting backcourt and now a healthy Brandon Roy coming off the bench for them. Matthews is averaging 19.8 points, 4.2 boards and 2.0 assists over his last five contests, while shooting an unbelievable 62.5 percent from downtown. He's also making 60.0 percent of his shots over that span. The second-year guard is showing he was worth his contract and should be considered a solid start in all Fantasy formats at this stage of the season.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews scored 11 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter on Wednesday night at the Trail Blazers beat the Kings, 107-102. He went 8 for 12 from the field -- connecting on 1 of his 4 3-point attempts -- and knocked down all four of his foul shots. Matthews added five assists, three steals and three rebounds in his 44 minutes of action. Portland used just an eight-man rotation on Wednesday as Brandon Roy sat out the second game on consecutive days and Rudy Fernandez was out with the flu.
Analysis: Matthews is having a good sophomore season. Over his last five games he's averaging 16.0 points, 1.8 steals, 2.8 boards and 2.6 assists per outing. He's struggling from beyond the 3-point arc though, as he's shooting just 27.3 percent over that span. Matthews continues to be a big contributor in Portland, despite the return of Roy and the addition of Gerald Wallace. Matthews averaged just under 18.2 points in February, so owners should keep him active in hopes he continues that trend. Continue viewing Mathews as a solid start in the majority of Fantasy formats.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews had to miss practice on Tuesday, but not for an injury, reports the Oregonian. Matthews was stranded in Wisconsin due to a snowstorm and could not make it to Portland. He is still expected to start on Wednesday when the Blazers host the Lakers.
Analysis: Matthews played his college ball at Marquette, which is located in Wisconsin, if you were wondering why he was there in the first place. Matthews ended the first half of the season on fire as he scored 26, 23 and 24 points, respectively, in his final three tilts. He went 9 for 16 from 3-point range over that span and has added at least seven boards in each as well. Averaging almost 19 points per game in February, Matthews has become a nice start in any Fantasy league.
News: After scoring just 12 combined points in his last two games, Portland G Wesley Matthews got back on track Sunday night against Detroit. He scored 26 points and hauled in seven rebounds in the 105-100 win. He went 7 for 11 from the field, including 4 for 5 from downtown, and converted all eight of his free throws. Matthews, who played 44 minutes, also had five assists, a steal and a blocked shot in the victory.
Analysis: Matthews has excelled with Brandon Roy out and is having a career year for Portland. He is averaging 16.2 points with 3.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals over his last five contests. He is shooting 45 percent from the floor over that span and 50 percent from beyond the arc. Fantasy owners shouldn't let his two bad outings deter them from keeping Matthews active, so continue to roll with the 24-year-old heading into Week 17 (Feb. 14-20).
News: After scoring 31 points last Saturday, Portland G Wesley Matthews had a sub-par performance his last time out and had another slow game on Friday night against Toronto. He scored just six points on 1 of 7 shooting in the 102-96 win. He missed all three of his attempts from downtown and converted 4 of 6 free throws while playing 38 minutes. Matthews also had three assists, two steals and two rebounds in the victory.
Analysis: Matthews has scored a combined 12 points in his last two games after recording double figures in eight straight. He is averaging 14.8 points with three rebounds and 1.6 steals over his last five contests, and is shooting 45 percent from the floor over that span. Matthews continues to see solid minutes but he will have to pick up his production to remain a viable Fantasy contributor. Keep an eye on his progress, and the troublesome ankle he has been playing on, over the next few games to see if he can get back on track. When playing well, Matthews is a nice low-end option in the majority of Fantasy formats.
News: It appears Portland guard Wesley Matthews' ankle is doing better as he logged 35 minutes on Friday night against Indiana. He's been dealing with a bad ankle injury, but hasn't missed any games because of it yet. Matthews shot 5 for 13 from the floor -- going 1 for 3 from beyond the 3-point arc -- and connecting on 1 of his 2 foul shots, finishing with 12 points. He added three assists and a board for the Trail Blazers. It wouldn't be enough as Portland lost to Indiana, 100-87.
Analysis: Matthews has said he's heard some pops in his ankle, but has been able to play through it. The fact he's hearing pops in his ankle is worrisome and is something that Fantasy owners have to monitor moving forward. But as long as he's able to play and perform at a reasonably high level, owners should have faith in him. Over his last five games, Matthews is averaging 17.0 points, 2.6 boards and 1.2 steals per contest. With those numbers, Fantasy owners should view Matthews as a serviceable guard option in the majority of formats.
News: Despite a severe looking ankle injury, Blazers guard Wesley Matthews was able to start the second half of Wednesday's game against the Nuggets. The injury occurred just before the half-time buzzer. But Matthews went back into the locker room shortly after giving it a go in the third quarter, though the injury appeared to be a left leg issue. Matthews scored 17 points in 17 minutes before his second exit from the game. "That's the ankle that's been messed up," said Matthews. "I heard some pops, heard and felt some pops. It calmed down and I was able to return again."He would come back again, but scored just two more points as he totaled 28 minutes of action. Matthews added four rebounds, three steals and two assists in the loss.
Analysis: Mattews had pleaded his case to get back on the floor after returning to the bench. He even stood and applauded a teammate's dunk to try and show the staff how "healthy" he was, eventually getting the nod to return. Depending on the severity of the injury, Matthews should be monitored moving forward. When healthy, he is a solid Fantasy starter in most formats.
News: Blazers guard Wesley Matthews turned in a another solid performance in Tuesday's 99-89 win over the Spurs. Matthews, who continues to be bothered by a lingering ankle injury, scored 21 points in the victory on 8 of 16 shooting from the floor. He went 1 of 3 from downtown and also added a rebound in the contest. Matthews has now scored 20 or more points in three of his last five games.
Analysis: Matthews continues be bothered by a nagging ankle injury but has no plans on giving it a rest. The second-year man out of Marquette continues to play and produce for Portland, while seeing around 40 minutes a game. The Blazers will continue to look at Matthews to help fill some of the scoring void left by Brandon Roy and so far he hasn't disappointed. He is averaging just over 16 points per game on the season and can continue to be viewed as a solid Fantasy starter in most formats moving forward.
News: According to The Oregonian, Trail Blazers G Wesley Matthews did not fully participate in Monday's practice. He said afterward that he is not yet 100 percent recovered from his ankle injury. "I haven't been 100 percent for a while," said Matthews.
Analysis: Matthews is expected to play on and should be able to take part in all four of his team's games in Week 15 (Jan. 31-Feb. 6). He is only a mild injury risk in weekly formats, as he continues to see around 40 minutes per game with the Blazers needing him to fill much of the Brandon Roy void. He is averaging 16.8 points, 4.4 assists and 2.8 rebounds with 2.0 steals over his last five games.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews was able to go on Thursday night against Boston, despite missing practice on Wednesday to rest his sore right ankle. That ankle has been bothering him for a few weeks now, and it may have messed his timing up a bit. He shot 4 for 15 from the field -- 2 for 5 from downtown -- and connected on both his foul shots. Matthews finished with just 12 points in the Trail Blazers 88-78 loss to the Celtics. He added an assist, two steals and seven rebounds in his 39 minutes of action.
Analysis: Portland ranks among the worst teams in the NBA in scoring, 3-pointers and field-goal percentage. While Matthews is a good shooter, he is streaky. Plus with this ankle issue he may be limited down the road. His biggest issue is his confidence though, as he seemed to toss up his shot too quick at times on Thursday. The Trail Blazers play four games in Week 15 (Jan. 31-Feb. 6), so if Matthews can keep his ankle good, he'll be a quality start. Also watch for Nicolas Batum's status as he hurt his knee on Thursday. If he misses time, Matthews' Fantasy value should go up.
News:The Oregonian reports that Trail Blazers SG Wesley Matthews did not practice Wednesday as he rested the sore right ankle that has been bothering him for a couple of weeks now. He should play Thursday against the Celtics.
Analysis: After a dazzling December, Matthews has cooled down a little in January, but his numbers are a little skewed thanks to his odd four-point outing against the Kings last week. He's only starting in 42 percent of leagues this week because Portland only has two games in the scoring period, but he's normally a solid No. 3 Fantasy guard and a must-start in all formats. Hopefully this ankle issue fixes itself sooner rather than later.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews posted a solid shooting performance on Thursday against Los Angeles. It follows up an awful display he had on Wednesday night in Sacramento. Matthews shot 10 for 18 -- 4 fro 8 from beyond the 3-point arc -- and nailed all four of his foul shots in Thursday's 108-93 win over the Clippers. He finished with 28 points, three steals, five assists and three boards in his 41 minutes of action. He definitely bounced back from his 4-point effort against the Kings in the first of back-to-back games.
Analysis: Matthews has been playing pretty well over his last five games, minus that poor showing on Wednesday. He's averaging 18.2 points, 2.2 boards, 2.0 steals and 2.8 assists per outing. Matthews is shooting 46 percent from the field and 43 percent from 3-point land over that span. While he was banged up for a few games, Matthews seems to be back on track. Keep him active as the Trail Blazers will continue to ride Matthews with Brandon Roy out of commission. Matthews is a solid guard option in all Fantasy formats.
News: Trail Blazers G Wesley Matthews led his team in scoring on Friday night against the Suns. He scored 26 points on 9 of 20 shooting in the 115-111 loss. He went 5 of 10 from downtown and 3 for 6 from the charity stripe while playing 40 minutes. Matthews also chipped in with two assists and a steal in the defeat. He is averaging 19 points and two assists over his last five contests.
Analysis: Matthews, who injured his right ankle in Thursday's practice, has come alive of late and showed no ill signs of his injury on Friday night. He has been efficient from beyond the arc of his last five games (41 percent) and has done some solid scoring while Brandon Roy's status for the rest of the season remains in limbo. Portland will play four times during Week 13 (Jan.17-23), so Fantasy owners will want to have him active with the likes of Minnesota, Sacramento, Los Angeles (Clippers) and Indiana on the schedule. With his recent production, view Matthews as a quality Fantasy option in the majority of leagues.
News: Blazers guard Wesley Matthews is in the starting lineup for Friday's contest against the Suns. Matthews injured his right ankle in Thursday's practice. He is averaging 15.8 points and 3.2 rebounds in 39 games this season.
Analysis: Fantasy owners in daily leagues should get Matthews active, but monitor how his ankle holds up. The Blazers play four times during Fantasy Week 13 (Jan.16-23), so owners will want to make sure his ankle is healthy heading into the upcoming scoring period. When healthy, Matthews is a quality Fantasy option in the majority of leagues.
News: The Oregonian reports that Portland guard Wesley Matthews is a game-time decision for Friday's game at Phoenix. Matthews injured his right ankle in Thursday's practice. He participated in the team's shoot around but would not confirm or deny whether or not he would play. However, coach Nate McMillen said he expects Matthews to play.
Analysis: Fantasy owners in daily leagues should use caution with Matthews. Hopefully he can play against the Suns, but he will now be considered a risky option for Fantasy Week 13 based on his ankle injury. When healthy, Matthews is a quality Fantasy option in the majority of leagues. With Brandon Roy (knee) injured, Matthews has stepped up for Portland and Fantasy owners.
News: The Oregonian reports that Portland guard Wesley Matthews limped off the practice court Thursday with an apparent right ankle injury. He was playing one-on-one with Patty Mills at the end of practice when he went up for a layup and his ankle gave out. Multiple trainers tended to him, and he walked off on his own wearing one shoe. He was undergoing treatment in the trainer's room. There is no word yet on Matthews' status for Friday's game at Phoenix.
Analysis: Keep an eye on Matthews' status and hope he can play against the Suns. When healthy, Matthews is a quality Fantasy option in the majority of leagues. With Brandon Roy (knee) injured, Matthews has stepped up for Portland and Fantasy owners.
News: Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews is just two games removed from his career-high 36 points, but has since gone ice cold from the floor. Over his last two outings Matthews is a combined 8 for 33 (24.2 percent) from the field and 2 for 12 (16.7 percent) from beyond the 3-point arc. Matthews shot 2 for 13 on Tuesday night against the Knicks, missing both of his attempts from long-range. He would convert 6 of his 7 foul shots and finished the game with 10 points and four rebounds in his 31 minutes of court time. The Trail Blazers would fall to the Knicks, 100-86.
Analysis: Matthews was lights out when he had his career high, but now it seems there is a lid on top of the basket. He's still averaging 15.8 points and 3.0 boards per game over his last five outings, so his Fantasy value is obviously still there. With Brandon Roy injured, Matthews has stepped up for Portland. The problem is he's inconsistent and that keeps Fantasy owners frustrated. Continue to roll with Matthews in deeper Fantasy formats.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews connected on 7 of 10 shots from 3-point range to finish with a career-high 36 points in the Blazers' 108-98 victory over Minnesota on Friday night. Matthews hit his first seven shots from the field and was 7 for 8 from 3-point range to lead the Blazers to a 20-point lead at halftime. His seven treys were a franchise record for a half and one off the team record for a game. "My job was easy," Matthews said, crediting his teammates for finding him. "Just got to shoot the ball." Matthews started the game sizzling and hit all five of his 3-pointers in the first quarter. He added five rebounds in 40 minutes as Portland won its second game in a row.
Analysis: Matthews has been filling in at shooting guard for the injured Brandon Roy, who has not played since Dec. 15 because of a left knee injury. He topped 30 points for the third time this season and the second games in his last five outings. Matthews had struggled in his last three games, going 10 for 35 from the field and recording 3 of 9 from 3-point range in that span. His inconsistency will certainly frustrate Fantasy owners so consider Matthews and his 15.4 points per game average for deeper and category-based Fantasy leagues.
News: Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews has been struggling with his shot over the last three games and has seen his production go down in each outing. He scored just nine points on a 4-for-12 shooting performance in Wednesday's 103-100 win over the Rockets. He missed both his shots from downtown and converted just 1 of his 2 foul shots. Matthews would add two assists, one steal and one rebound in his 30 minutes on the court.
Analysis: Matthews has scored 33 points over his last three games -- 11.0 per game -- and is shooting a combined 10 for 35 (28.6 percent) from the field. Matthews is having a career year up in Portland as he's averaging over 15 points per outing, but he's in a bit of a slump lately. He's still worth using in the majority of Fantasy leagues. There could be better options depending on how deep your league is, but Matthews normally can produce in multiple categories, making him a low-end starting guard.
News: Portland G Wesley Matthews had the finest performance of his career on Thursday night against Utah. He scored 16 points in the third quarter, finishing with a career-high 30 points and four steals in the 100-89 win. He went 9 of 16 from the field, including 4 for 10 from downtown, and converted 8 of 9 free throws. Matthews, who played 39 minutes, also had three rebounds and three assists in the victory.
Analysis: Matthews, who was lured away from Utah over the summer with a five-year, $34 million deal, has really stepped up his game with Brandon Roy (knee) out and could continue to do so as Roy will be out indefinitely. Matthews is averaging 19.4 points with 4.2 rebounds and 1.6 steals over his last five contests and will continue to see solid minutes as long as he is playing well. He is having a career year and is contributing in all aspects for Fantasy owners. Keep Matthews starting in a majority of Fantasy leagues as his all-around production should maintain, at least for the next week or so.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews continued playing at a high level and helping his team win on Monday in Utah. Matthews scored 14 points, though he shot poorly going 4 for 14 from the field. He made up for it by grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out three assists. Matthews went 1 for 5 from long range in the performance.
Analysis: Matthews is averaging 19 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.2 steals and two 3-pointers per game over his last five. His production is up across the board for the Blazers and he's become a nice option in all deeper Fantasy leagues.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews finished with 21 points and five rebounds in the Blazers' 107-102 victory over Minnesota on Friday night. Matthews briefly went to the locker room in the third quarter with an apparent leg injury that limited Portland to just eight players for the final three minutes of the quarter. Marcus Camby and Nicolas Batum suffered shoulder injuries in the first half and did not return from the locker room after halftime. Matthews contributed four assists and three steals in his season-high 43 minutes.
Analysis: With Brandon Roy (knee) already missing the game and Batum not playing in the second half, Matthews played more than 40 minutes for the just the third time in his last 10 games. Matthews connected on 2 of 8 from beyond the 3-point arc and has now sank multiple treys in seven consecutive games. He has dramatically improved his perimeter shooting since the beginning of the season and is now averaging 44 percent from behind the arc in his last 10 games. Consider Matthews a mid-range Fantasy option who can contribute in most Fantasy formats.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews played a team-high 42 minutes in a loss to Memphis on Monday night. With Brandon Roy struggling with his shot and a knee injury, Matthews took over as the team's leading scorer as he dropped 18 points on 8 of 15 shooting with two 3-pointers. Matthews added four rebounds and two steals in the game with one assist.
Analysis: Matthews has scored at least 16 points in five straight games and is averaging 19 per game over that span. That comes with 2.8 rebounds, 2.4 steals and over two 3-pointers per night. He's mostly a scorer, but he's been doing that well enough for use in all Fantasy leagues of late.
News: Guard Wesley Matthews had 20 points for the Trail Blazers, who trailed the Magic by14 points in the first half on Thursday. They would turn things around and eventually win the game 97-83. He shot 50 percent from the field -- connecting on two key 3-pointers in Portland's rally. He would add three rebounds, three steals and two assists in his 33 minutes of court time.
Analysis: Matthews has scored more than 20 points in four of his last five games. During that span he's averaging 19.6 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 34 minutes a game. Matthews is doing well in his starting role for Portland. If he keeps producing like this his Fantasy value will only go up. Owners should continue to roll with him as he is a solid start in all formats.
News: Suspensions were handed out on Monday for Sunday's mini-fracas between the Clippers and Blazers. Brian Cook was suspended for two games, while Portland's Andre Miller got one. Wesley Matthews, however, avoided getting suspended. Matthews possibly left the Portland bench to join the fray but was not suspended and will not miss any time.
Analysis: Matthews will have a full four-game Week 7 (Dec. 6-12) to look forward to as he avoided being suspended for his involvement in the fight against the Clippers Sunday. Matthews started in place of Nicolas Batum at small forward Sunday for the fourth straight game and has scored 23 or more in four of the last five games. He has emerged as a solid start in most formats so continue to roll with him.
News: ESPN reports that Trail Blazers G Wesley Matthews could face a one-game suspension for leaving the bench during Sunday's altercation between Blazers and Clippers players. The play happened in front of the Clippers bench, but the report notes that Matthews appeared to break through a line of assistant coaches to advance up the sideline outside of his team's bench area. After the game, however, Matthews denied it. "I don't know what you're talking about," said Matthews, who led the team with 26 points. "I know I didn't get on the court. There was no intention for me to go out there, it was just a spur-of-the-moment type thing, so hopefully I'm all right. David Stern, I didn't do anything. I'm just an intense player and I love my teammates."
Analysis: Fantasy owners should be aware of the possibility that Matthews could be shorted one game in Fantasy Week 7 (Dec. 6-12) as a result of this. We will all have to await a final verdict from the league, however. Matthews started in place of Nicolas Batum at small forward Sunday for the fourth straight game and has scored 23 or more in four of the last five games. He has emerged as a solid start in most formats. The good news is that the Blazers are slated for four games in Week 7, so you are likely to get at least three out of Matthews regardless. Just be aware he may not be in line for all four games.
News: Blazers guard Wesley Matthews helped Portland snap a six-game losing streak with a 100-91 win over the Clippers on Sunday night. Matthews had 26 points in the contest on 10 of 19 shooting from the floor. He went 1 of 3 from downtown and also added two rebounds and an assist in the victory.
Analysis: Matthews, who signed as a free agent from Utah in the offseason, started in place of Nicolas Batum at small forward for the fourth straight game and has scored 23 or more in four of the last five games. He is shooting a whopping 54 percent (38 for 71) over that stretch while going 14 of 26 from downtown. Matthews appears to have locked down a spot in Nate McMillan's starting lineup for now, which should allow him regain regain much of the Fantasy appeal he gained while Roy was away. With two games against the Suns in Fantasy Week 7 (Dec.6-12), Matthews should be able to put up some nice numbers. Get him active heading into the upcoming scoring period.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews remained in the starting lineup on Tuesday at Philadelphia, one game after the Blazers named him a starter over Nicolas Batum. Matthews didn't disappoint in his first game in the starting lineup. He scored 25 points and hit five 3-pointers in New Jersey. On Tuesday in Philly, Matthews was even more impressive. He shot 9 of 16 from the field with two 3-pointers and scored 26 points. Matthews added four rebounds and a steal.
Analysis: Matthews has scored at least 20 points in three of his last five games and is averaging 18.2 PPG over that span. That comes with 4.2 rebounds and over two 3-pointers per game. If this continues for Matthews, he will come closer and closer to reaching must-start Fantasy status. As it is, he should be active in most leagues right now.
News: According to the team's official website, the Trail Blazers have made a switch at the starting small forward spot going forward. Wesley Matthews will start in place of Nicolas Batum, according to coach Nate McMillan. The Blazers started Matthews over Batum in the second half of Sunday's loss to the Nets after Batum went 0 for 2 from the field in the first half.
Analysis: This is just what the doctor ordered for Matthews, who stood to lose a lot of Fantasy appeal with the return of Brandon Roy to the rotation. In fact, Matthews was held to just four points in Roy's first game back on Friday night against the Hornets. The swap on Sunday allowed Matthews to bounce back with 25 points. A permanent move to the starting lineup could allow him to regain much of the Fantasy appeal he gained while Roy was away. Fantasy owners who were giving up on him now have reason to believe he can maintain solid productivity. Just don't expect it to be quite at the level it was when Roy was not around.
News:The Oregonian reports that Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillan could make a change to his lineup at small forward. He started Wesley Matthews over Nicolas Batum in the second half of Sunday's loss to the Nets after Batum went 0 for 2 from the field in the first half. McMillan said he made the move to get some "scrappiness" and "energy," and added that he would need to look at film of Sunday's game to decide whether the move would be permanent.
Analysis: This could be just what the doctor ordered for Matthews, who stands to lose a lot of Fantasy appeal with the return of Brandon Roy to the rotation. In fact, Matthews was held to just four points in Roy's first game back on Friday night against the Hornets. This move allowed Matthews to bounce back with 25 points on Sunday night, but the lack of stability right now makes him a shaky Fantasy option. A permanent move to the starting lineup could allow him to regain much of the Fantasy appeal he gained while Roy was away, and there is also the possibility that Roy will miss games here and there to rest his ailing knee. We recommend taking a wait-and-see approach here until this situation shakes itself out, but Matthews is well worth stashing as a Fantasy reserve for the upside he has displayed.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews came off the bench on Sunday and led the Trail Blazers in scoring with 25 points. He shot 9 for 14 from the field -- 5 for 6 from downtown -- and nailed both foul shots in his 34 minutes of action. He chipped in four rebounds, an assist and two steals for Portland as they fell to .500 on the year with after a 98-96 loss. "We don't feel like we're an 8-8 team," said Matthews. "In the NBA, you play a lot of games in a short amount of time and you have to be able to get through this and move on."
Analysis: Matthews will continue to see plenty of action moving forward as he should be the first player off the bench. With Brandon Roy playing more minutes than expected, one would think Matthew's value would take a hit. So far it hasn't so Matthews should be viewed as a decent option in deeper leagues for now. If he continues to produce like this, he would be worth adding in more leagues.
News: Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews, starting his second consecutive game in place of injured Brandon Roy, hit three consecutive 3-pointers during a second-quarter stretch to highlight his scoring. Matthews followed up his 30-point outing in his first start with a 20-point effort against Denver on Thursday. He shot 8 for 18 from the field -- 3 for 8 from downtown -- but hit just 25 percent of his foul shots. He added 10 rebounds, recording his first double-double of the year, one assist, two blocks and one steal. The Trail Blazers were able to hold off the Nuggets, 86-83 on Thursday.
Analysis: Matthews showed that Tuesday's outing wasn't a fluke. It's looking like a really good move by Portland by picking Matthews up in the offseason. With Roy out a bit longer, Matthews should continue to be the starter and benefit from Roy's absence. While Roy is out, Matthews is more than worth using in deeper Fantasy leagues across the board.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews made his first start for the Trail Blazers against the Grizzlies with Brandon Roy sitting Tuesday's game out with injury. Matthews was one of the Blazers' key offseason acquisitions and proved why against the Grizzlies. Matthews set a new career high for scoring with 30 big points in the Portland win. He shot 11 of 19 from the field over 43 minutes and went 5 for 10 from 3-point range. Matthews added three assists, three rebounds, two steals and a block in the game.
Analysis: Matthews scored 14 points over 24 minutes and hit a three in his last game at New Orleans and blew that production out of the water with more minutes Tuesday. He should continue to put up solid production with Roy needing some time off. He will see a slight Fantasy boost for use in deeper leagues for as long as Roy is out. Matthews could be worth adding across the board right now.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews was given 23 minutes for the second straight game on Tuesday as the Blazers demolished the Pistons. Matthews shot 3 for 8 from the field one game after going 1 for 5 and he scored nine points against Detroit. Matthews, who went 1 for 3 from 3-point range, added two rebounds, one steal and one assist in the win.
Analysis: The second-year player out of Marquette is just under 10 points per game over his last five contests but is shooting just 17 for 43 (40 percent) over that span. Matthews needs more minutes before he can make much of a Fantasy impact. That said, once he gets the minutes, the rest could follow. He remains a sleeper to monitor and someone to own only in the deeper Fantasy leagues right now.
News: Blazers G Wesley Matthews turned in his best effort of the season in Tuesday's 90-76 win. Matthews scored a season-high 18 points on 7 of 15 shooting. He scored 16 of his 18 points in the first half and was slashing to basket or hitting from long range to shred the Bucks' defense. He played in 28 minutes off the bench and also chipped in with five rebounds and four assists.
Analysis: Matthews has been coming off the bench so far this season, but has still averaged 23.6 minutes. He usually will be Portland's first scoring option off the bench and could wind up being a a worthy low-end starter or reserve option in standard leagues this season if he keeps on producing. Matthews is definitely a player Fantasy owners should continue to monitor.
News: Trail Blazers G Wesley Matthews had a strong game off the bench in Tuesday's regular-season opener against the Suns. He chipped in 13 points and six rebounds with three assists, shooting 5 for 12 from the field and 1 for 2 from beyond the arc.
Analysis: Matthews did not start, but he did see 30 minutes of playing time and was able to continue the momentum of a strong preseason. He seems to be the team's primary scoring option off the bench and could be a worthy low-end starter or reserve option in standard leagues this season.
News: According to The Oregonian, Portland guard Wesley Matthews, who has been dealing with an Achilles' injury this preseason, said he was hopeful to return to practice on Sunday and be ready for the Trail Blazers season opener against the Suns on Tuesday. Matthews did not practice on Friday, but did participate in shooting portions of the practice.
Analysis: Matthews was signed in the offseason to give the Trail Blazers a boost from the backcourt. In five preseason games this year, Matthews was averaging 12.8 points, 2.0 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game. He'll likely come off the bench in Portland, which limits his Fantasy value. He averaged just under 10 points per game last year with the Jazz and owners should expect much of the same out of him this season. Consider Matthews a low-end option in the deepest of Fantasy leagues, when healthy.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews continues to deal with an Achilles' injury and is expected to miss the team's final preseason game on Thursday, reports The Oregonian. Matthews does say his heel is showing improvement.
Analysis: Matthews could still be ready to open the season. If he can't go, Nicolas Batum could see a boost in Fantasy value. Matthews left the Jazz to join the Trail Blazers this offseason, but will likely come off the bench in Portland. He averaged just under 10 points per game last year with the Jazz and could post similar numbers this season. He is just a reserve player in Fantasy and nothing more than a low-end option for the deepest of leagues, when healthy.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews has been dealing with a sore Achilles' tendon this preseason, but managed to play almost five minutes in Saturday's preseason game against the Warriors. Unfortunately his time was cut short because of that sore Achilles'. He is still day to day. He made one shot, finishing with just two points.
Analysis: Matthews' stats weren't good, but he managed to take the floor. The fact he tweaked his injury again is definitely bad news. He left the Jazz to join the Trail Blazers this offseason, but will likely come off the bench in Portland. He averaged just under 10 points per game last year with the Jazz and could post similar numbers this season. He shouldn't be on anyone's radar on Draft Day, unless you are in a deeper Fantasy league.
News: Trail Blazers SG Wesley Matthews, who has topped 15 points in three of four preseason games, averaging 15.5 during that stretch, has a sore Achilles' tendon, according to the Columbian. The team will evaluate him before Saturday's game against the Warriors.
Analysis: Matthews clearly has some ability, but he figures to come off the bench, limiting his upside. He averaged nearly 10 points per game with the Jazz last season and likely will make a similar impact this season. You can save him for deeper Fantasy leagues.
News: Portland guard Wesley Matthews was back playing at a high level in Monday's preseason loss to the Jazz. Matthews, who only scored five points in his last game at Denver after dropping 20-plus in his first two contests, scored 16 points in the loss on 7 of 12 shooting. He added five rebounds and two assists and could have scored more had he not missed both 3-pointers he attempted over 29 minutes on the floor.
Analysis: Matthews, entering his second year in the NBA, scored 9.4 points per game with almost a 3-pointer per contest last year over 82 games and 24.7 minutes. Fantasy owners shouldn't get too excited about Matthews based upon preseason numbers and consider him the next breakout star, but he is certainly worth keeping an eye on and may even be worth a late-round flier as a result.
News:Wesley Matthews, who played for Utah as a rookie last season, scored 21 points against them in Thursday's preseason game. He played a team-high 38 minutes and shot 6 for 15 from the field, including 2 for 4 from beyond the arc. He added five assists and two rebounds. Matthews scored 20 points in 20 minutes against the Clippers in Tuesday's preseason opener.
Analysis: If there was a preseason Fantasy hoops league, Matthews would be a must-start. Unfortunately there isn't (that we know of), and Matthews is not likely to see this type of run when the regular season roles around. Fantasy owners shouldn't get too excited about Matthews based upon preseason numbers and consider him the next breakout star, but he is certainly worth keeping an eye on and may even be worth a late-round flier as a result.

Analysis: Matthews averaged 9.4 points and 2.3 rebounds in 24.7 minutes for the Jazz last season as a rookie. He appeared in all 82 games and started in 48. He is a decent young guard out of Marquette with some decent long-term upside, but will likely be waiver wire fodder this season in Fantasy unless he can earn a bigger role with more games like this.
News: The Trail Blazers have signed shooting guard Wesley Matthews after the Utah Jazz declined to meet Portland's five-year, $34 million offer for the restricted free agent. The Blazers held a news conference to announce the deal Wednesday morning at a park near the Rose Garden Arena. "A lot of people respected what I did because of how hard I played, how hard I went. That wasn't to get a big contract like this. This big contract helps my family out. I'm all right as long as I can play this game. So people that say I'm overpaid, I might be. We never know. I know one thing, I will be in the gym and I will be working to give myself a chance to be the best I can be."
Analysis: Matthews averaged 9.4 points and 2.3 rebounds in 24.7 minutes for the Jazz last season as a rookie. He appeared in all 82 games last season and started in 48. He is a decent young guard out of Marquette with some decent long-term upside, but will likely be waiver wire fodder this season in Fantasy.

A source close to the negotiations who did not want to be identified because the deal was not yet official told The Associated Press that Matthews was expected to formally sign either Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Analysis: Matthews averaged 9.4 points and 2.3 rebounds in 24.7 minutes for the Jazz last season as a rookie. He appeared in all 82 games last season and started in 48. Matthews is a decent young guard out of Marquette with some decent long-term upside, but will likely be waiver wire fodder this season in Fantasy.
News: The Utah Jazz are not planning on matching Portland's offer for restricted free agent Wesley Matthews. Matthews will join the Trail Blazers for the 2010-11 regular season. He averaged 13.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists in nine playoff games for Utah.
Analysis: The Jazz acquired free agent guard Raja Bell, making Matthews expendable. He appeared in all 82 games for the Jazz last season, averaging 9.4 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. Matthews is a decent young guard out of Marquette, but he figures to be a role player at the NBA level who will be helpful to Fantasy owners off the waiver wire only in spurts.
News: Jazz G Wesley Matthews averaged 13.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists in nine playoff games for Utah. He scored at least 12 points in all but three games, including a 23-point performance in a series-clinching win over Denver in the first round.
Analysis: Matthews saw an increase in minutes and touches over his role in the regular season thanks to an injury that kept Andrei Kirilenko out through the first seven games of the playoff run. Matthews is a decent young guard out of Marquette, but he figures to be a role player at the NBA level who will be helpful to Fantasy owners off the waiver wire only in spurts.
News: Jazz G Wesley Matthews had 12 points with two rebounds and an assist in Monday's game against the Knicks. He Has scored in double figures in five of his last six games.
Analysis: Matthews is averaging around 30 minutes per game in March, allowing him to contribute around 12 points, three rebounds and a pair of assists per game. Use him in larger leagues where those types of numbers may be of use. He is putting them up on a pretty regular basis.
News: Utah G Wesley Matthews scored 16 points in a win over the Raptors on Wednesday. Matthews shot 5 of 10 from the floor while adding eight rebounds, a steal and a block in 36 minutes. It was Matthew's third consecutive game in double figures and fourth in his last five.
Analysis: Matthews has been playing fairly consistent basketball and is averaging 11.4 points and 3.2 rebounds over his last five contests. He has shown Fantasy owners the ability to put the ball in the basket, but he is still lacking in other statistical categories. Fantasy owners can treat Matthews as a low-end option best reserved for deeper leagues.
News: Utah G Wesley Matthews (knee) scored just nine points against the Suns on Friday. Matthews shot 3 of 7 from the floor while adding four rebounds and assists. It was the first time in his last four games that he has failed to score in double figures.
Analysis: Matthews is averaging 13.2 points to go along with three rebounds over his last five games. While Matthews has shown some upside in recent games, he is best left as a low-end Fantasy option in larger formats.
News: Jazz G Wesley Matthews (knee) has been cleared to play in Friday's game at Phoenix, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. The decision was made following the team's morning shootaround.
Analysis: Matthews is averaging 14.2 points over his last five games while getting around 30 minutes per contest as a starter. He's currently on a nice run and can be useful in larger formats -- especially in Head-to-Head formats as a low-end starter.
News: Utah suffered two injury scares on Wednesday against the Wolves. Point guard Deron Williams was taken to the locker room in the first quarter after landing off-balance on a missed 3-pointer. Williams returned to the game after having his ankle re-taped and finished the game with nine points and 11 assists over 33 minutes. Also suffering a scare was Wesley Matthews. Matthews took a spill after driving to the hoop and spent some time on the floor before limping off with a banged knee. Matthews eventually would return to shoot his free throws and he stayed in the game. Matthews played 29 minutes and scored 10 points. Williams and Matthews are both considered game-time decisions for Friday at Phoenix. Williams will undergo an MRI on his shoulder Thursday, reports KSL.com.
Analysis: Matthews has been playing well as a starter and has become worth using in the deeper Fantasy leagues. He returned on Wednesday and shouldn't miss any time but you never know what could happen over night. Stay tuned.

Analysis: Matthews has been playing well as a starter and is averaging 14.4 points over his last five games. Utah plays four games during Fantasy Week 21 (March 15-21) and as long as Matthew continues at this pace, he can be used as a decent Fantasy option in the deepest of leagues.
News: Utah SG Wesley Matthews continued his steady play as a starter on Wednesday in a win at Detroit. Matthews scored in double figures for the fourth straight game with 14 points on 5 of 7 shooting. He played 24 minutes and added three dimes, two boards, a steal and a block.
Analysis: Matthews is averaging 11.2 points per game over his last five games as a starter. Since he's getting all that PT, he can be used in 12-team and deeper Fantasy leagues as a last-resort replacement option. Otherwise, his appeal is really only in the deepest of leagues.
News: Jazz G Wesley Matthews had 10 points with a rebound and an assist Thursday night in Phoenix. He has scored in double figures in three of his last four games.
Analysis: Matthews usually gets around 6-9 shots per game and that leads to a lot of inconsistency out of him and makes him untrustworthy in most Fantasy formats. But he is starting and seeing around 30 minutes per game, which makes him a viable stopgap in a pinch.
News: Jazz G Wesley Matthews had nine points with two rebounds in Monday's game at the Clippers. The game strapped a string of back-to-back double-digit performances for Matthews.
Analysis: Matthew had scored 18 points in his previous game, but he had to go 7 of 9 from the field to do that. He usually gets around 6-9 shots per game and that leads to a lot of inconsistency out of him and makes him untrustworthy in most Fantasy formats. But he is starting and seeing around 30 minutes per game, which makes him a viable stopgap in a pinch.
News: Jazz SG Wesley Matthews continues to play well since being moved into the starting lineup, scoring 18 points against the Rockets on Saturday. In 33 minutes, he shot 7 of 9 from the field, 1 of 2 from downtown. He added three rebounds and three assists.
Analysis: Matthews has really benefited from the Ronnie Brewer trade. He's taken Brewer's spot in the starting lineup, and played well. Over his last five games, he's averaging 11.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 steals, scoring in double figures four times. He has become a viable Fantasy option in deeper leagues.
News: Jazz SG Wesley Matthews scored 16 points and plucked five rebounds in Wednesday's win over Portland. In 25 minutes he made all six of his shots, dished one assist and had one steal.
Analysis: While Matthews has the occasional big scoring output, he has just as many three or four point games. His averages of 10.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals over the past five contests have been a positive contribution for the Jazz, but not enough to overcome his inconsistency and give him much Fantasy value in anything other than deeper leagues.
News: According to The Salt Lake Tribune, Deron Williams will miss Friday's game against the Sacramento Kings to attend a funeral. He is expected to return for Monday's game against Dallas. Ronnie Price will likely start in his absence with Wesley Matthews seeing a boost in minutes.
Analysis: Williams is averaging 17.4 points, 9.8 assists and 4.2 rebounds over his last five games. He'll be a safe start for Fantasy Week 15 (Feb. 1-7) and remains somebody who should be active in all leagues. Price and Matthews are only worth a flier in deeper daily formats for Friday.
News: Utah SG Wesley Matthews recorded a new career high for points on Monday in a win over Phoenix. He came off the bench for 24 minutes and scored a career-high 21 points on 6 of 13 shooting with three threes. Matthews added five assists and four rebounds with two steals.
Analysis: Matthews is averaging just 8.6 PPG over his last five and that includes the career-high effort. Matthews has some appeal in the deepest of Fantasy leagues but until this happens more consistently, he is barely worth owning in most formats.
News: The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Deron Williams (wrist) did not practice Friday and is considered a game-time decision for Saturday's game against Milwaukee. Williams re-injured his right wrist Thursday night early in the fourth quarter against Cleveland. In his absence, Sundiata Gaines went 3 for 3 from the floor in nine minutes of action, including the game-winning three-pointer to beat the Cavs at the buzzer. Backup G Wesley Matthews played 16 minutes and contributed six points with a rebound and an assist.
Analysis: Williams missed two game with the wrist injury the first time around. He is going to be treated on a day-to-day basis and Fantasy owners will have to keep a close eye on him over the weekend leading up to Fantasy Week 13 (Jan. 18-24). When healthy, he remains one of the elite guard options in Fantasy hoops. Gaines would likely split a role with Wesley Matthews if Williams were to miss extended time and despite the feel-good story of an NBDL alum getting called up and hitting a game-winner with his first three-pointer in the NBA, his upside in Fantasy remains very limited. Matthews has filled in well already this season and would be the player to target of the two.
News: Utah guard Wesley Matthews scored 10 points Saturday in a win at Dallas. Matthews shot 4 of 5 from the field and hit two threes. He also blocked one shot over 14 minutes on the court.
Analysis: Matthews is getting around 14-20 minutes per night for Utah and is producing a few double-digit scoring nights here and there. He's worth keeping on your radar in deeper leagues but is still not yet a must-have Fantasy player.
News: Jazz SG Wesley Matthews, who recently lost his starting job to C.J. Miles had 14 points and three rebounds in 27 minutes off the bench Thursday at Oklahoma City. He had 16 points and seven rebounds in 34 minutes off the bench Dec. 26 against the 76ers.
Analysis: In between those two games, Matthews scored zero points Dec. 30 at Minnesota, so he lacks the consistency needed to make an impact in Fantasy. But he can clearly put up some points from time to time. He's worth keeping on your radar in deeper leagues.
News: According to the St. Louis Tribune, Wesley Matthews will be replaced in the starting lineup by C.J. Miles. Sloan played Miles ahead of Matthews in the second half of Saturdays victory over Charlotte and made the change to his starting lineup official at Mondays pregame shootaround at Amway Arena. "You see a lot of young guys having to adjust and do the different things in the game," Sloan said. "Youve got to be able to do that. C.J. has the ability to do that probably a little bit better because hes been here five years. Wes has been here two months."
Analysis: Sloan cited Miles experience and length as two factors in the decision, with Miles possibly having an edge over Matthews in battling bigger guards in the post as well as rebounding from the wing position. Miles had 20 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists Saturday at Charlotte in 35 minutes of action. He was a starter with limited success all of last season, but if he were to see 30-plus minutes, he could become an interesting sleeper. Matthews is no longer worth considering in Fantasy leagues -- at least for now.
News: Jazz SG Wesley Matthews, who had scored in double figures in four straight games, scored only seven points Wednesday at the Lakers. He shot just 2 for 12 from the field.
Analysis: Matthews had improved his scoring lately, but he's still averaging less than 10 points per game. Even though he has seen an increase in playing time with Andrei Kirilenko sidelined, he doesn't have much long-term Fantasy appeal. He's worth using only in deeper leagues as a potential short-term stopgap.
News: Jazz SG Wesley Matthews scored in double figures for the first time in seven games Monday against the Grizzlies, finishing with a season-high 17 points on 6 of 7 shooting in 38 minutes. He also had five assists.
Analysis: Matthews starts for the Jazz, but he doesn't offer much production. He won't have too many games like this one, so leave him on waivers in standard Fantasy leagues.
News: Utah undrafted rookie SG Wesley Matthews received his first start on Friday night in a win at Philadelphia. Matthews played well over 38 minutes on the court. He scored a career-high 16 points on 5 of 11 shooting with three threes. Matthews added four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Analysis: Matthews has scored in double figures three times in his last five games. His minutes keep going up for the Jazz, especially with Deron Williams out. Matthews clearly has earned the trust of his coaches, meaning he'll see added minutes going forward. Monitor his progress and begin to add him in deeper leagues if this continues.
News: Jazz SG Wesley Matthews, an undrafted rookie, made an impression in 25 minutes off the bench Thursday against the Spurs. He had 12 points and three rebounds.
Analysis: Matthews has some ability, but he's a bit of a project and will rarely see significant minutes in close games. Leave him on waivers in Fantasy.
